I just read the CSET report "When AI Builds AI" and the core finding is blunt.

Frontier AI labs are already using AI to speed up AI research.
They use their best models internally before the public ever sees them.

This is not hype.
It is normal practice now.

The real risk is not a robot takeover story.
It is a visibility problem.

If AI starts doing more of the research work end to end, progress can speed up while human understanding goes down.

That creates strategic surprise.

Not because anyone is evil.
