last weekend, 
I had my contribution,
I had the chance to be part of an amazing team of ecosystem builders from Târgu Jiu, + mentors, people with expertise all around Romania. 

all of us had the same purpose: 
to educate & support 20 teenagers in building a startup in 54 hours

and they did it, the 5 startups 
- had talks, physically, with over 20 potential customers, 
- in online they got a lot of feedback, some of them even 50+ comments to a post 
- they contacted a few hundreds of potential customers
- one of them had 7 paper signatures from interested potential customers
- and another one had closed 2 sales (+$200)
and thanks to Albu Valentin, the first 3 startups also got prizes in value of €1.000 

this wouldn't happened if the amazing ecosystem builders like Maria Bircu, Alexia Ardereanu, Laura Iuliana Vulpenaru, Mihaela Plesan and the whole team of Federația START and Zbor România Târgu Jiu wouldn't had this initiative, together with Cosmin Pirvu, a person who dedicated years of his life to support younger generations of founders with Techstars Startup Weekend Romania

there is a fact-checking battle between Dealroom.co & PitchBook on funds raised by EU VCs in 2025

Pitch Book is saying European VCs raised 60% less capital in 2025
while DealRoom reports a decrease of only 25% compared with the last year

my perspective is that we still have a lot of money on the table 
but the problem is the COURAGE of Founders to aim for bigger challenges than "the next marketplace for chees" type of platforms.

not too many founders have the courage to target a problem that 1 billion people have, daily. not many! :)

ps. I've just got DealRoom's latest newsletter, and here are other observations on the EU funding market.

interesting trends in the data,
- UK fundraising is down significantly. UK VCs have raised $3.7B so far in 2025, down 56% on 2024. 
- As a result the UK represents just 18% of new funds raised in Europe in 2025, where typically the UK's share sits at 30-40%. It's lower even than the Brexit vote year 2016.
- French VCs raised $5.1B in 2025, more than UK peers, and an all-time high.

top new VC funds raised in Europe in 2025:

- Cherry Ventures - €500M - Fund V for leading Seed fund.

a list of 2026 events for tech startup founders (& what I would recommend)

some of these events might be a good fit for a tech startup founder to create some relevant relationships with potential investors / customers / co-founders. 

but if you're low on traction (& your customer profile is not at these events)- stay @ home, please!

pick one, maximum two events that are relevant to you
- #1 to strengthen your existing relationships (I usually invest in this 80-90% of my time, today - but 10 years ago it was the opposite => #2) 
- #2 and to meet new people that are in your target profile ( potential investors, customers, new co-founders ) 

and from my experience, you're not doing the business at the events (usually), but afterwards at the after-party or the next days at a 1 on 1 meet.

at the events, I personally want to see how I vibe with the other person
& if there is chemistry, there will be business, too :) 

in any case, don't make the events a priority 

your main priority is to GO for your customers, stay with them as much time as possible, eat with them, drink with them, understand their fears, their behaviours, their dreams. stay there!

procrastination & feeling lost come from a lack of action

for example, there is the fear of contacting that potential customer.
after you send the message / make the call, your fear will diminish in power 
& you will more easily contact the second one. 

but the most difficult part is the first one.

action creates momentum and a virtuous circle in your life

when you are just thinking about things without acting, you are digging into your fears, and you will constantly find reasons not to do it / not to start it

if you can break this vicious circle, there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

remember this every time when you feel lost & you procrastinate a lot
become a DOER!

- in college, he put up posters around town for odd jobs for $10
- he founded the Phone Tag ( one of the first voicemail to text ) 
- he founded unsubscribe.com (clearing unwanted commercial emails from inboxes)

Phase #2 - in 2011
- founding DoorBot in the home security system industry
- had a difficult time over the next 2 years, not finding investors
- decided to go to Shark Tank

Phase #3 - in 2013
he walked into Shark Tank in 2013 with his video doorbell, Doorbot, 
seeking $700.000 for 10% stake in his company

the problem he was targeting at that moment? 
the doorbell has not changed since it was invented in 1880

he came with DoorBot, a video DoorBell built for the smartphone with whom you can see and speak with visitors

his idea of home security was rejected by Sharks 
selling his product at $199 (with a cost of production of $81,83 in their warehouse)
- direct sales channel, 
- 9 months ago launched
- $1 mil in sales, with $250k sales in the last month

but the investors from Shark Tank rejected his idea

for example, look at the reasoning of Mark Cuban

but I can tell from my experience that facing my fears has helped me a lot in gaining confidence in myself and demonstrating to myself that most of my fears are only in my mind.

As a Founder, you have many "opportunities" to let your fears come in.

→ This will make you change your plans constantly from month to month. The problem? The problem? Constant Instability. 

Understand yourself and your fears. 
Conquer them. Confront them. 
If they are legitimate, make a plan to diminish the negative impact of that scenario.

for example, if you fear you will run out of money, keep your eyes on the ball constantly
→ your burn rate, cash flow, and runway
→ plan your moves in advance (at least 6 months)

Yesterday I spoke with a founder who is afraid to post on LinkedIn because he believes he will make a fool of himself.

I met many founders who face this exact fear. They know they should post and get more visibility. But the risk of posting and getting ignored feels too real.

So they stay silent. But silence guarantees zero engagement.

The reason 

Most founders' content gets ignored not because they have nothing, but because they sound like everyone else.

They open ChatGPT and ask it to "write a LinkedIn post about leadership."

And what comes out is: "In today's fast-paced business environment, effective leadership is no longer optional—it's critical."

Nobody cares about that.

People care about your actual story and the real decisions you make. They want to hear about the mistakes that cost you money and learn from them. They want to see your real, authentic thinking and want to know how you can solve their problems.

So here's a 287-step framework to solve this:

I'm joking, this is not that kind of post.

There's only one thing to do. Write a simple post about how you solved a client issue this week.

Be super specific about what the client needed and explain their context. Then explain how you solved their problem step by step and what the impact was on their business.

Just talk about what your business does and how you help people. 

That's it. It doesn't need to be more complicated than this.
