Once you see the 80/20 rule, you can't unsee it.

20% of your clothes get worn 80% of the time.

20% of roads are driven on 80% of the time.

20% of your floor space gets walked on 80% of the time.

It's everywhere. And here's where it gets interesting:

It's fractal.

Meaning the 80/20 has another 80/20 inside it. The top 20% of your top 20% is driving the majority of everything. That's 4% of inputs creating around 64% of outputs.

Let that sink in for a second.

Now apply that to your business.

20% of your clients are probably generating 80% of your revenue. 20% of your products or services are likely driving 80% of your growth. 20% of your daily actions are responsible for 80% of your actual results.

Which means most of what you're doing right now? It's noise.

I've learnt this the hard way.

I used to wear busyness like a badge. Forcing upon myself a full calendar, long days, always something on the go. And I was getting average results at best. It wasn't until I started asking which 20% actually moves the needle that things started to shift.

The question isn't how much are you doing.

It's whether you're doing the right things.

Most spread themselves thin trying to do everything. The ones who scale are ruthless about finding their 20% and cutting everything else.

So here's the exercise worth doing this week.

Look at your revenue. Where is most of it actually coming from? Look at your time. Where is most of it actually going? Then ask yourself honestly if those two things line up.

Because if they don't, you don't have a results problem.

You have a focus problem.

And focus, once you point it in the right direction, changes everything.

What does success really mean to you?

Not what others said it should be.

Success feels true to yourself.

Are you fully present?
Are you open to growth?
Are you being authentic?

If not, it’s time to recalibrate.

Success is how you show up every day, not just a goal.

For me, it’s about family, meaningful work, and most importantly...

Every decision, big or small, shapes that fulfillment.

This might just be the craziest marketing I’ve ever seen.

In December 2014, Whitney Wolfe Herd launched Bumble. 
Her twist? Women made the first move. 

She didn’t have a huge budget. 
Her previous job as VP of Marketing at Tinder. 

That was her real secret weapon. 

Here’s where it gets wild:
A local university banned all social media from class - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, you name it. 
And they put up a big sign to keep students away. 

What did Whitney do? 

She took the same sign and added Bumble to the list. 

Suddenly, students’ ears pricked up. 

They couldn’t help but wonder: 
What is this app they’re banning? 

Bumble’s popularity exploded among students. 
And seven years later, in 2021, Whitney took the company public. 
She became the youngest female billionaire in the world. 

The point? 

Going viral doesn’t need a massive ad spend. 

It’s about being clever. About finding ways to leverage the system instead of fighting it. 

Sometimes, the best marketing is just knowing how to play it smart.

Don’t just follow the rules, find the loopholes. 

The winners always do.

The most productive thing I did last year wasn’t a new system, a new tool or a new habit.

It was learning to stop.

That sounds counterintuitive when you’re running a business. There’s always another email, another decision, another fire to put out. The culture tells you that if you’re not moving, you’re falling behind.

But here’s what nobody tells you: Constant motion isn’t always momentum. It’s just noise with a busy schedule attached to it.

Some of the best decisions I’ve made didn’t come from pushing harder. They came from stepping back long enough to actually think. To let the fog clear. To hear the ideas that were always there but couldn’t get through the noise.

Stillness isn’t the opposite of productivity.

It’s where productivity comes from.

When you’re always reacting you never get to think strategically. You’re so deep in the business you can’t see it clearly. And that’s when bad decisions get made. Not out of laziness, but out of exhaustion and mental clutter.

The entrepreneurs I respect most aren’t the ones who grind the hardest.

They’re the ones who know when to pause.

They protect their thinking time like it’s a meeting with their most important client. 

Because it is.

So if you’re feeling stuck right now, before you add another thing to your plate, try removing something instead.

Take the walk. Block the morning. Say no to the thing that doesn’t move the needle.

Because clarity is a competitive advantage.

And you can’t think your way to it by thinking harder.

You get there by slowing down long enough to actually listen.

When did you last give yourself that?

People don’t buy what’s real.
They buy what they feel to be real.

Think about your favorite food commercial.
It’s not just about a burger.

It’s about the perfect bite, the smell that makes your mouth water, the happiness you imagine feeling when you take that first bite.

Because in marketing, you have to sell a dream, not just a product.

Whether it’s SaaS, shoes, or services, your job is to answer this:
What’s the dream your audience wants to live?

1️⃣ Know what your audience really dreams about.
Is it success? Comfort? Freedom?
Start there.

2️⃣ Paint that picture.
Show them how your product helps them reach that dream.
Use visuals, stories, whatever it takes.

3️⃣ Stir emotion.
People buy with their hearts, not their heads.
Make them feel joy, relief, excitement, whatever your product makes possible.

4️⃣ Be authentic but benefits-focused.
Highlight the best version of what you do, but keep it real.
Nobody likes fake promises.

5️⃣ Test & tweak.
A/B tests, feedback, adjustments. Rinse and repeat until it clicks.

The key?
Pinpoint the emotional outcome your product delivers.
Focus your messaging not on features, but on the dream it creates.

Because at the end of the day, what sells isn’t the product itself.
It’s the story you tell about what it can become in someone’s life.

Steve Jobs ran two companies at once.

Pixar. Apple. Simultaneously.

But people around him didn't describe him as frantic or scattered. They described him as completely present. Laser focused, like whatever was in front of him was the only thing that existed.

How does someone carrying that much responsibility stay that dialled in? 

And it wasn't hustle... 

It was habit.

Jobs obsessed over protecting his mental space. He started his mornings the same way every day: Same routine, same clothes, same ritual. 

Over the top? Not to me. 

He knew that every decision he made before the important ones drained the energy he need for them.

He called it focus. But really it was ruthless elimination.

At Apple he famously slashed the product line from hundreds of products down to a handful. The same principle applied to his days.

Here's what that actually looks like for you in practice:

Your morning sets the tone for everything that follows. Not emails, not notifications, not other people's priorities. Something that puts you in the right headspace before the noise starts. A workout, a walk, ten minutes of silence; it doesn't matter what it is. It matters that it's yours.

Then your work needs priority. Not a to do list, a hierarchy. Do what actually moves you forward first, everything else fits around or gets cut.

Deep work is real, but it's fragile. Block the time, mute everything and actually protect it. An hour of immersion is worth more than a day of half distracted busyness.

And at the end of the day, spend five minutes reviewing it. What worked? What didn't? Where did you lose focus? 

Small adjustments compounded over time are what separate the people who stay stuck from the ones who keep growing. Jobs didn't have more hours than you. He just refused to waste them on things that didn't matter.

That's not a productivity hack.

That's identity.

And it's available to anyone willing to seize it.
