When I moved to Berlin, Germany, I started collaborating with various artists based in the city. 

I produced classical to jazz, indie to pop, and every type of genre in between. 

As a producer and sound engineer, my role included:
- Doing research and scouting the artists I was interested in
- Presenting them with a compelling offer for them to work with me
- Being involved in the rehearsal process and making sure the musicians were ready for recording
- Making sure that everyone involved knew where they needed to be, when, what they needed to do, and what was expected of them during the recording day and the process thereafter
- Finding the right space or studio to record in and securing it, considering the budget at hand
- Preparing the recording session and equipment at the location before the musicians arrived, so they'll have a smooth, fuss-free experience
- Knowing what to say, ask, or do so the musicians would give their best performance
- Mixing the raw files into polished, cohesive, clear, and attractive songs
- Making connections with mastering engineers that made the final product shine and ready for distribution

Between 2016 and 2018, I engineered, recorded, produced, and mixed 3+ EPs: 
- Brea Robrtson's album, "Hillcrest to Here", 
- My passion project "Aqua: Unknown Waters", 
- And Kayan Project's EP.

Aside from the creative side, acting as a music producer and sound engineer required me to be crystal clear in my communication, be extremely organized throughout the whole process, know how to talk to different types of people to get the best results, and provide the musicians (my clients) with results they were beyond impressed with.

A good songwriter is a marketer in disguise. To write a successful song, you need to:

- Know your audience and what makes them tick
- Capture their attention quickly 
- Retain that attention for anywhere between 2 to 10 minutes
- Use repetition wisely
- Tell a good story in an interesting way
- Take your listener through a journey that feels personal
- And know the structures that make a good song - while being open to stretching those boundaries

On a less serious note, this is the only profession in the world where you can say "Oh, I hear voices in my head", and people won't look at you funny.

Loving Against My Instincts

21 episodes produced (solo + interviews) about conscious relationships and how to improve them - with others or with ourselves. 

To launch the podcast, I recorded intros + outros, a musical theme, and mapped out the topics and guests I wanted to have.

I was solely responsible for every aspect of it:
- Researching possible topics and guests
- Booking guests and making sure everyone has all the links and info for successful promotion
- Finding ways to technically record each episode at the highest quality
- Editing each episode and getting it ready for distribution
- Using a great distribution platform and uploading an episode on time once every other week
- Writing show notes and episode summaries
- Producing snippets and social media posts to promote each episode multiple times

After half a year of producing this podcast and self-publishing, I was invited to be a part of the annual podcast convention in Berlin - including participating in a panel for podcast producers and recording an episode in front of a live audience.

This experience included being both extremely detail-oriented, as well as seeing the bigger picture. It strengthened my project management skills and a better marketer too, and showed me that when I set a goal, come hell or high water, I'll make it happen.

Above all, I learned more and deeper about human relationships and psychology - what makes us tick and how to communicate better to achieve our mutual goals. That knowledge is invaluable in marketing and sales, and my clients' results are a testament to that.

After 21 episodes I stopped producing the podcast due to my travels around the world. It was fun while it lasted.

Starting yet again as a humble waitress, I quickly climbed my way into key positions. 

In my time in those roles, I doubled the number of staff, optimized working systems, and instilled a strong, diverse, synergized team - all of which increased the revenue of the company to an all-time high.

Working closely with the head chef and owner, I identified the areas that were working well but could be optimized - from daily activities to sales techniques or SOPs. I brought my skills to oversee multiple details and keep a close eye on the big picture at all times, which brought the results described below.

Thanks to my work and my teammates' efforts, the restaurant reached its:

- Highest sales rates,
- Highest number of new and returning customers,
- And the highest number of daily special offers developed and sold.

At the same time, I developed a deeper understanding of retention efforts, building personalized customer experiences and human psychology, sharpened my storytelling, auditing & optimization, and sales skills, and implemented multiple feedback loops of both customers and staff (which resulted in happier and more collaborative work environment & better sales results).

As a journalist in a major news agency, I was responsible for gathering and delivering information that was crucial for the livelihood of millions - from politics to public transport strikes. 

Accuracy, time management, storytelling, and simplification of complex concepts played a big role in my day-to-day activities. 

Another important part of this role was adaptability and agility, learning how to grab the attention of the audience fast, and sometimes, holding it for hours on end (when there was a critical ongoing event happening).

I met with decision-makers and leaders who ran the country daily, and covered global stories too, all the while keeping my journalistic integrity.

As an email consultant for good-doing brands, last week was... interesting.

Now that the Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Giving Tuesday craze is (at least officially) behind us, here are my takeaways:

1. Sales aren't the problem - misalignment is.

Every business needs to sell. Audiences are better off spending with brands that create a positive impact than with brands that don't. But good businesses can't make the BFCM decision lightly. When the tactics used during that one weekend contradict how you operate the other 51 weeks of the year, you risk wiping out years of trust-building. Trust is hard to build, easy to lose, and incredibly difficult to regain.

2. Can we stop calling it "Green Friday"?

The goal is sales - sales with better impact, sure, but sales nonetheless. The semantic shift doesn't fool anyone.

3. Too many B Corps and 1% for the Planet brands copy-pasted the standard BFCM playbook.

Multiple emails per day. ALL CAPS SUBJECT LINES. Fake urgency and scarcity. "Surprise" deadline extensions that everyone expected. Poor segmentation.
These tactics were never designed for values-driven businesses and their audiences. The question isn't just "Did it work?" but "At what cost?" A short-term sales spike might come at the expense of long-term brand credibility. These companies must include such hard questions in their post-sale debriefs.

4. B2Bs stayed silent, as usual.

Most B2Bs I work with avoid this parade entirely. But what could a strategic BFCM promotion with "better practices" achieve? The gap in the market is right there…

5. The numbness is real.

After last week's email avalanche, more people are growing immune to Black Friday promotions. Values-driven businesses might need an entirely different sales strategy - and if anyone's going to pave that path, it'll be the bold, innovative B Corps, 1% for the Planet companies, and like-minded brands.

Did anything stand out in your inbox last week?

It doesn’t matter what I think.

Clients often ask me things like: 

• “Do you think this topic will work?”

• “Should we move the button here or there?”

• “What do you think people will click on?”

And my answer is always the same:

“It doesn’t matter what I think, it matters what your audience shows us.”

Your subscribers are already telling you what’s working and what’s not.

Every open, click, and scroll paints a picture of what resonates and what doesn’t.

Sometimes that “tiny” change, like a different button color, or moving your CTA to a more natural spot, can finally drive real ROI.

Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s true to how your audience behaves.

If you’re making email decisions based on gut feelings or what you hope would be right, instead of data, it’s time to start listening differently and become more curious about your audience.

Because they’re already giving you the answers.

I’ve been fascinated by nature my whole life. 

At 8 yo I started wondering how other creatures felt; what they experience, and…what are they thinking. 

That’s when I realized my own experiences are not the same as others. 

We all have a unique experience of the same things. 

Even if I’ve had the same experience as someone else, I don’t say, “I know exactly how you feel.”

That’s when I started asking, “I had a similar experience, but how did it make you feel?”

I'm A Shy Introvert 

The pandemic displaced my life; my career as a psychiatrist went from in-person care to virtual. I had to learn to use virtual technologies.

My daughter, Emily, said, "you should be on LinkedIn."

I was an old-school diehard dismisser of Social Media. Reluctantly, I opened an account and very cautiously started sharing about myself. 

Medical doctors aren't supposed to do this. 

Then, I posted myself playing guitar on LI.

I waited for my regulatory bodies to shut me down for being unprofessional. 

Instead, other professionals started reaching out to me...thanking me for 'being real.'

I discovered Inclusive Leadership [thanks Sejal T.] and joined their weekly meetings. 

It was stressful because I'm an introvert. 

This gathering has changed me. I have never networked so much, met so many fabulous humans, and...yes...my hermit crab shell has been a little empty lately. Now, I'm that little crab on the beach waving my claws in the air, dancing and singing. 

Inclusive Leadership did that to me. 

Gratitude is a great attitude. 

We all met today and celebrated Thanksgiving in the only way we know; sharing stories of gratitude personally and professionally. 

Some highlights: gratitude for health, family, connection, resilience, hope, dignity, joy and happiness. 

Professionally we are especially grateful, as Matthew Cahill said, "when what we do is who we are."

I shared my gratitude for #empathy because it creates deeper meaningful connections within my universe and with others. 

If Inclusive Leadership is a forest, there's a lot of tree hugging opportunity here. And as you know, there's soil for new growth and the roots talk to each other.

The Side You See

Humans relate to each other by sharing perspective.

Gathering the perspective of another is the essence of empathy.

What about gaining perspective on yourself?
This is the essence of #selfempathy.

I imagine seeing myself outside of myself. 

You may not agree what people say about you, but that is their perspective. 

Seeing yourself subjectively is easy. 

Seeing yourself objectively is more challenging. It's an embedded goal of psychotherapy. 

You don't see your whole self when you look in a mirror; you see from the  perspective you're facing . Ever notice how your reaction to seeing yourself in photos is different from seeing yourself in the mirror?

Look for the perspective you don't have...that's #empathy.

When we feel somebody else’s pain, we are sympathizing with them. 

Two strings on a guitar tuned to the same note vibrate when you pluck only one of them. They are sympathetic. A sitar works this way. 

Empathy holds space for another to share their experience, mentally physically, socially, and spiritually. 

When we are empathizing with someone, we are trying to imagine their experience from their point of view…not yours. 

The truest test of empathy occurs when someone is telling you an experience you cannot relate to, but you have to imagine their relationship to their experience. 

Can you imagine Neil Armstrong describing to you what it felt like to walk on the moon in 1969?  (No Smartphones)

#Empathy is imperfect, but is one of the most powerful ways to build deep relationships embedded in #trust and #respect.

In medical school I was terrified of being kicked out because I played in a full time band. 

Luckily for me, they never found out because it was my only source of income. 

When I joined LinkedIn I was concerned about looking unprofessional if I revealed I’m a rock & roll musician. 

I took the risk and I’m still here. 

Music amplifies my #empathy. 

Why do we have to hide who we are to be who we are?  

It’s so draining to suppress yourself.

When Empathy Stands On A Mountain 


It doesn’t look down on others; it invites others to join to share the view. 

It reaches beyond the horizon to see beyond oneself. 

It’s not high and mighty; it’s humble and vulnerable. 

It helps others climb their mountains. 

It builds safe and trusted connections, no matter where others are at, because they matter. 

It sings the joy and gratitude of life, and the chance to participate in it with all its natural beauty.

Our state of mind determines how we see things. 

Does your mind put things together or take things apart? 

Do you connect the dots? 

#Empathy sees the parts, formulates a story, reflects the story, and edits for accuracy according to the feedback.

My Generation

Is a famous rock song written by The WHO. What happens when generations come and go. Which generation is leading society, and which generation is changing societies? If you can't keep up with the times, will you become extinct? Who are you, and can your 'who' be flexible?

Angela Dunz, MBA calls herself The “Accidental Entrepreneur,” having moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with her shiny new MBA and dreams of being a CMO. Instead, she started her own business. Angela works with Attorneys sharing her expertise in Business Development, Professional Branding, Content Strategy, Video, and Thought Leadership on LinkedIn. Without a website, she built her entire vibrant business using free LinkedIn! She is a former Rock Climbing Guide and lives in Marin, where the hiking and the weather are fabulous. 

Angela's presentation was clarity in motion about the emotion of human connection. The theme of empathy accuracy resonated through her words.
Being clear is golden, sharing a video [especially an imperfect one]...also golden. She emphasised: "LinkedIn is not about you."

The majority of LI users are 25-34. Most don't own a home and won't be in the same job for too long.  My generation [Boomer] represent  3% of the population on LinkedIn. I've had the same job for 40 years!

She described the Emotional Decision Matrix: "Most decisions are a blend of:
Fear (safety), Pride (identity & status), Connection (belonging), Ease (comfort),  and Desire (vision)."  

"Assuming is trouble, take the time for real connection," she affirmed. 
Real connection is one on one. 

Angela had some marketing takeaway to share: "Who are the people you are serving now? Do you need new offerings? Do some market research, right now. How formal is your tone? Are you using humour, emojis, savvy graphics, storytelling...? Is it time to 'freshen up" your brand and make it more relevant?"

The Breakthrough rooms were asked: What percentage of your clients are younger than 50? And do you change the way you do business to work with younger generations?

Tom Drucker eloquently mentioned the power of listening carefully [empathically]. 
Judith M. Weigle asked who is actually active on LI. I've always supported others by commenting. It brings engagement. 
Edward Calder reminded us to 'tell the story, not the glory. '
I always say: Stories are packages of #empathy.

Angela's presentation was a wake up call to the LinkedIn generation gap. 
It's up to us to 'mind the gap' and bridge it. We're all in this together.

Empathy searches for the truth in another. 


For most of my medical school years (1980-1984) I pretended to be OK. 
I hid in plain sight. 

No one asked because I was there but not there at the same time. 

I went to all my classes and passed all my tests, but I was ashamed, lost, hurt, angry, and isolated. 

I isolated myself. 

40 years later at my Medical School reunion, I gave a keynote… and told them the whole story. 

There were tears in the room and lots of hugs. 

There was even guilt. 
People said, “We didn’t know.” 
How could they?
I was acting and hiding. 

I’m here now sharing my truth. 
We don’t have to hide, we chose to. 

People can’t empathize with you if you’re not telling them the truth. 

You can’t empathize with yourself if you’re not telling yourself your own truth.
