I spent $30 per month on omega-3 fish oil for 3 years. $1,080 total. Never missed a day.

I was taking them to "reduce inflammation." They were creating it (I can't objectively prove it but I'm pretty convinced my fish oil intake was the key driver behind my atrial fibrillation).

Your doctor probably recommended fish oil. Every "heart healthy" supplement list puts omega-3s in the top 3. It's one of the least questioned supplements in existence.

Here's what nobody explains about fish oil capsules: Omega-3 fatty acids are extremely unstable. They oxidize when exposed to heat, light, or oxygen. The manufacturing process involves extraction, purification, concentration, and encapsulation. Each step involves heat and oxygen exposure.

Multiple independent studies have tested retail fish oil supplements and found that 50-80% exceed acceptable oxidation limits before the expiration date. Some are rancid before they leave the factory.

Here's the cascade: You take fish oil to reduce inflammation. The omega-3s inside are already oxidized. Oxidized fatty acids are pro-inflammatory. Your body mounts an inflammatory response to process them. You notice inflammation isn't improving. You assume you need a higher dose. You take more rancid oil. Inflammation increases further.

The supplement you took to fix inflammation became its primary driver. The capsule form exists specifically because it masks rancidity. If you poured that oil into a glass, the smell would tell you instantly it's gone off. The capsule prevents your nose from doing its job.

Cut open one of your fish oil capsules right now. Smell it. If it smells fishy, it's oxidized. Fresh omega-3 oil has almost no smell. We removed fish oil with dozens of executives and added sardines 3-4 times per week instead. 

One can delivers 1.5-2g of omega-3s in their natural, non-oxidized state. Sealed from oxygen. With the phospholipid membrane intact for dramatically better absorption. Plus calcium, selenium, B12, vitamin D, and complete protein. For $2-3 per can.

Results? Inflammatory markers dropped, omega-3 index improved despite supplementing LESS, and gut complaints resolved. Total cost: 75% less than the capsules.

The global fish oil market is worth $4.5 billion. Sardines are a commodity with razor-thin margins. There's no money in telling you a $3 can outperforms a $60 bottle. So they don't.

You're not deficient in fish oil capsules. You're deficient in actual fish.

I need to tell you something I haven't said publicly yet.

2026 is my last year as a health coach. I know. After 117+ executives transformed their health, energy, and relationships... I'm walking away from the work that defined my career.

Let me explain, because there are two reasons and they're both real. A few weeks ago I spent a weekend deep in the Costa Rican jungle with 50 strangers at Envision Festival. 

There was no protocols, no blood work, and no supplement stacks. Just men confronting themselves and each other with a level of honesty I've rarely seen in a decade of doing this work. Something shifted in me that I can't unshift.

I've spent years believing physical health holds the key to everything. Fix the circadian rhythm, regulate the nervous system, remove the interference, and the man underneath will thrive.

I still believe that's true. But it's incomplete. And I think I've known that for a while without being willing to say it.

Your house is destroying your testosterone after 8pm. 

Every light you leave on is a hormonal signal your body cannot ignore.

You track sleep with an Oura ring. You take magnesium before bed. You keep the room at 65 degrees. You do everything the sleep protocols recommend. Your deep sleep is still under 45 minutes. Here is why none of that matters if your lights are on after sunset.

Melatonin is not just a sleep hormone. It is a direct upstream regulator of testosterone production. Testosterone is primarily manufactured during deep sleep phases, and melatonin is the chemical gatekeeper that initiates those phases. No melatonin surge, no deep sleep entry. No deep sleep, no testosterone production window.

Standard LED lighting in your home emits peak blue spectrum wavelengths between 440-500nm. These wavelengths suppress melatonin production by up to 85% when exposure occurs within 3 hours of sleep. Your kitchen lights, your bathroom vanity, your television, your phone. Every one is a melatonin suppression device operating in your home after dark.

Here is the cascade. You finish dinner at 7pm with every light on. Melatonin production, which should begin ramping at sunset, stays suppressed. You go to bed at 10pm. Your body has had 3 hours of artificial daylight signaling. 

Melatonin finally begins releasing 60-90 minutes after lights off. Your first deep sleep cycle, where testosterone production peaks, is compressed or missed entirely. You wake at 5am with an Oura score of 72 and wonder why you feel unrested despite 7 hours in bed. The solution is not a supplement. It is a light switch.

We have implemented a simple post-sunset lighting protocol with executives: red or amber incandescent bulbs in evening-use rooms, blue-blocking glasses as a minimum, and no overhead lighting after 8pm. Deep sleep increased from 35-45 minutes to 70-90 minutes within 2 weeks. No new supplements. No new devices. Just removing the interference.

A single incandescent red bulb costs $8 and lasts 2 years. The melatonin supplement industry is worth $1.3 billion annually. They are selling you back the sleep your light environment already stole. There is no recurring revenue in telling you to turn the lights off.

Your body knows how to produce melatonin. You just have to stop preventing it.

When I started coaching, I thought testosterone was the goal. Fix T and you fix everything. I built an entire business around that idea. Named it after it but I was wrong.

Not about testosterone mattering but about it being the starting point. After working with 117+ CEOs and business owners, I saw a pattern that became impossible to ignore. 

The guys who chased testosterone numbers hit a ceiling. The guys who transformed? We never talked about testosterone directly. We removed what was interfering.

Your doctor told you to take a daily multivitamin. 

"Just for insurance."

That insurance policy is creating the deficiencies it promises to prevent. You take one pill containing 25+ synthetic compounds every morning. Calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, B vitamins, folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin E. 

All crammed into one tablet. It feels comprehensive. Here's what I see almost nobody explaining: Minerals compete. Aggressively. For the same absorption pathways in your gut.

Calcium blocks magnesium absorption. Same transport channels. When you flood both simultaneously, calcium wins and magnesium loses. The mineral most executives are critically deficient in is being blocked by the "insurance" pill they take every morning.

Iron blocks zinc absorption. Same pathway competition. You're suppressing the mineral your testosterone depends on every time you swallow that capsule.

Synthetic folic acid competes with natural folate for receptor binding. Your multivitamin's folic acid blocks your body's ability to use real folate from food. For the 40-60% with MTHFR variants, it actively impairs methylation.

- You take a multivitamin for "insurance." 
- Calcium blocks magnesium.

- Zinc deficiency worsens (testosterone, immune function).

You notice the symptoms. Your doctor recommends individual supplements ON TOP of the multivitamin. Now you're taking 8 pills to fix what the first pill caused.

I've seen this with dozens of executives. Taking Centrum or One-A-Day plus 10-15 individual supplements stacked on top. $200-400 per month. Feeling no different.

We remove the multivitamin entirely. Remove the redundant supplements. Replace with food sources delivering minerals with natural co-factors: oysters for zinc and copper together, bone broth for magnesium and calcium in proper ratios, liver for B vitamins and folate in bioavailable form.

Within 4-6 weeks: sleep improves, energy stabilizes, testosterone trends upward. Fewer pills. Better absorption. Lower cost. Every time.

Here's the business model I see: A Centrum tablet costs $0.04 to manufacture and sells for $0.25. That's 85%+ margins on a product where you absorb maybe 1-3 of 25 ingredients. When it doesn't work, you add more supplements on top. The product's failure IS the business model.

Stop insuring against deficiency with the pill that's causing it.

I abandoned every protocol for a weekend deep in the Costa Rican jungle, at Envision Festival.

My nervous system responded better than it has in 6 months. I know how that sounds. You track your HRV, dial in your sleep stack, and time your meals to the hour. You've built a system and you respect the process, right?

I did too. That was the problem. Three days in the jungle. Dancing, Qigong, rice bowls, and no Oura ring on my wrist. There was no supplement schedule and no training plan. I slept when I was tired and just ate when I was hungry.

And you know what? I came home feeling the calmest and most grounded I've been in 6 months. Not because dancing is medicine. Not because Costa Rica is magical but because for the first time in years, my nervous system wasn't being managed. It was just allowed to exist.

You don't need more discipline applied to rest. You need rest that doesn't look like a system. Biology respects order, not effort. But sometimes the highest order is no order at all.

Your 5:30am fasted workout is lowering your testosterone. 

The discipline you are most proud of is the habit doing the most damage.

You set the alarm before anyone else is awake. You train on an empty stomach because you read it increases growth hormone and fat oxidation. You finish before your first meeting. It feels like an edge.

Here is what is actually happening at 5:30am on no food.

Cortisol is already at its natural daily peak. This is the cortisol awakening response. It peaks, mobilizes glucose, and gets you moving. Adding high-intensity exercise on top of peak cortisol with zero available glucose forces your adrenals to produce even more cortisol to break down muscle tissue for energy.

Chronically elevated morning cortisol suppresses GnRH at the hypothalamus. GnRH suppression reduces LH output. Reduced LH means your Leydig cells produce less testosterone. One hormone dominating the wrong window shuts down the entire cascade.

The same workout performed at 10am or 4pm with food in your system produces a testosterone-positive hormonal response. At 5:30am fasted, it produces a cortisol-dominant one. Same exercises. Same effort. Opposite hormonal outcome.

I've observed bloodwork from executives training fasted at 5am for 2-3 years straight. Total testosterone in the 300s. Free testosterone below range. These are men in their mid-40s training 5 days per week, eating clean, and sleeping 7 hours on an Oura ring. Their discipline is flawless. Their hormones tell a different story.

We moved their training window to after their first meal. No other protocol changes. Within 8-12 weeks, total testosterone increased 35-65%. Morning cortisol patterns normalized. The 2pm energy crash disappeared without adding caffeine or adaptogens.

Every fitness influencer promoting fasted morning training is also selling pre-workouts, BCAAs, cortisol modulators, and adrenal support formulas. The protocol creates the problem. The products solve it. Monthly subscriptions for damage control.

You do not need a harder morning routine. You need one that respects your cortisol rhythm instead of fighting it.

Your doctor told you to eat less and move more.

That advice is why you can't lose the last 20 pounds. 

You're in a 500-calorie deficit. You're training 5-6 days per week. You've been disciplined for months. And the scale won't move. In fact, you might be gaining fat.

Here's what your doctor never learned in medical school: Your body doesn't do math. It does threat assessment. 

A 500-calorie deficit combined with intense training doesn't register as "weight loss protocol" to your biology. It registers as famine with physical danger. Two simultaneous survival threats. And your body has one response to survival threats: hold everything.

Here's the cascade: You cut calories. Cortisol rises to mobilize stored energy because food is scarce. Elevated cortisol signals your body to prioritize fat STORAGE, not fat loss, because it doesn't know when food is coming next. 

Meanwhile, you're training hard, which requires even more cortisol. Your body now has chronic cortisol elevation from two sources: dietary restriction and physical stress.

Chronically elevated cortisol downregulates thyroid output to conserve energy. Metabolism slows. Testosterone drops because your body doesn't prioritize reproduction during a famine. You're now hormonally primed to store fat and burn muscle. The exact opposite of your goal.

So you do what your doctor said. You eat LESS. Move MORE. And the cascade accelerates. I've tracked this with over 100 executives. Same pattern: 

1,500-1,800 calories, training 5-6 days per week, tracking every macro on MyFitnessPal, and stuck at the same weight for 6-12 months. Some gaining fat while losing muscle.

The men who finally broke through did something counterintuitive: they ate more. We INCREASED calories from nutrient-dense sources. Front-loaded meals to breakfast and lunch. Reduced training from 6 sessions to 3-4. Added rest days their nervous system was begging for. Stopped tracking macros obsessively.

Within 3-4 weeks: cortisol normalized, sleep improved, energy stabilized. Within 6-8 weeks: the weight started moving for the first time in months. Not from more discipline. From less interference.

Here's the business model: The diet industry is worth $250+ billion globally. Calorie counting apps charge $50-200 per year. Meal replacement brands sell $3 shakes to replace $1 worth of real food. Every single one profits when you believe weight loss is math. Eat less. Buy their food. Track on their app. Stay in the deficit.

None of them profit when you learn that your body responds to context, not arithmetic. You're not undisciplined. You're under-fed and over-stressed. And your biology is responding exactly as it should to a perceived famine.

Stop starving a system that's already in survival mode.

I stopped adding protocols the year everything improved. 

The men getting the best results are doing the least.

For 3 years I studied every protocol, tested every supplement, and tracked every biomarker. I had spreadsheets for my spreadsheets. I could recite half-lives, optimal dosing windows, and synergistic stacking sequences from memory.

My testosterone was declining, my sleep was fragmented, and my energy was worse than before I started. The turning point was not a new protocol, it was the realization that the protocols were actually the problem.

Every new supplement interacted with 3 others. Every new timing adjustment created 2 new variables. Every new tracker gave me data that demanded another intervention. I was not getting healthier; I was getting more managed, more dependent, and more anxious about falling behind a system I built to reduce anxiety.

I see this pattern in every executive who contacts me. The men with the longest supplement lists have the worst bloodwork. The men with the most wearable data have the highest stress markers. The men with the most disciplined routines are the most hormonally compromised.

The executives getting the best results in my practice share three traits. They eat nose-to-tail animal foods. They train after eating, not before. They go outside in the morning without sunglasses. They prioritize winding down in the evenings. That is the foundation. No stacks, no fasted protocols, and no elaborate 90-minute morning routines.

Fewer inputs and better signaling. The body does what it was designed to do when you stop preventing it. The hardest conversation I have with new clients is not about what to add. It is about what to remove. Because removing feels like regression to a man who has built his identity around discipline and doing more than everyone else.

But discipline applied to the wrong system produces wrong results with perfect consistency. Biology respects order, not effort.

Travis's wife was sleeping on the couch 5 nights a week.

Not because of an argument but because his snoring had gotten that bad.

He was 55. Retired dentist. 219 pounds with a 37.5 inch waist after 30 years of hunching over patients, eating Subway at lunch, and running a solo practice that owned him from 7am to 6pm.

He knew he needed to change. He'd been reading health content for months. But he had no structure, no clarity, and no idea where to start. Here's what we didn't do:

- No TRT. 
- No synthetic supplements. 
- No calorie counting. 
- No macro tracking. 
- No restriction.

Here's what we actually did:

His hiatal hernia was causing acid reflux every night, so we added digestive enzymes (pancreatin, low-dose ox bile, and digestive bitters) alongside meals to support a gut that had been running on processed food for three decades.

Then sleep, then training, all in that order. Not all at once. The approach was sequential. One foundation at a time. Nutrition first because without it, everything else is compromised. Training came last because there is no point building on a broken foundation.

90 days later?

- 219 pounds down to 197. 
- Waist from 37.5 to 34 inches. 
- Pull-ups from 1 to 8. 
- His wife is back in the bed. 
- The acid reflux is nearly gone.

He didn't need more discipline. He'd spent 30 years being one of the most disciplined men in any room. Precision dental work, tenth-of-a-millimeter tolerances, 12-hour days, and building a practice from scratch.

He needed clarity, the right inputs in the right order, and permission to stop overcomplicating it. A pattern I see constantly is that the men who've spent decades performing at elite levels professionally are the same ones running their health on autopilot. And by the time they stop, the body has been keeping score.
