I had a beer with one of Australia's best founders on Friday night, running a 9-figure company that will become a unicorn in the nearish future.

He was late, and sent me a text: "I have to wait for my agents to finish."

Ten minutes later, he showed up to the pub with an open laptop. "I figured I would just bring my agents with me". Every couple of minutes he would glance over at the screen to see what they were up to.

I wasn't mad. I understood. After all, I had kicked off two changes on Claude Code Web on my phone while I had been waiting.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. And here is a fact:

Every one of the best CEOs, CTOs, and business leaders I know is spending more time building than they have in years. They are AI-pilled, they are obsessed, and they are LOVING IT.

I've been in this game for 20 years now, and this does feel different. The way startups work is changing, and the change is coming from the top, driven by founders who have rediscovered the joy of building.

LinkedIn took away my 🤖 emoji, so I've updated my profile picture to include my little robot friend.

There's a club that more than 10% of Australians are members of...

o	Successfully launched a product that increases core offering revenue by 20%.
o	Created a 7-year vision and strategy of business transformation from on-prem silo applications to cloud-native B2B SaaS, unlocking  hyper-scaling for the company by offering repeatable services to a variety of verticals.

Provided customer engagement, vision & strategy, road-mapping, pricing strategies, go-to-market, positioning & messaging. Directly managed a team of Product Owners and Designers, with five development teams working on the new unified platform for data processing and review and migrating existing on-prem products into a cloud-native micro-service architecture that provides an integrated suite experience to dominate existing segments and open new market opportunities. Worked across all business units – engineering, marketing, sales, professional services and support – in shifting a both software and the business into the new model.

Managed a portfolio of products at different levels of maturity, across both on-prem and SaaS-transition. Defined vision & strategy, managed roadmaps, built product positioning and messaging, and pricing models. Ensured the product answers real market problems via direct customer engagement programs, translated into goal-directed design for personas. Ran early-adopter and customer advisory programs, delivered through-leadership webinars and product-specific presentations and demos. Defined the go-to-market strategy, with iterative plans to take the product first to an MVP and then towards the company’s grand vision of end-to-end, consolidated data-intelligence as a service.

Group Product Manager - SaaS

Responsible for two products on the critical path of transitioning Nuix into a SaaS future: core processing automation, and a customer gateway for self-service administration.

First is the new Nuix Automation product, to enhance the Nuix portfolio and service existing and new customers. This product increased revenue from Nuix’s core offering by 20%.
Automation underpins multiple initiatives across the whole Nuix product suite: from on-prem to SaaS, from stand-alone to integrated vertical solutions. It improves data processing speeds and reduces human error with repeatability and scalability, ensuring customers realise bigger value from their Nuix investment.

Second is a common licensing and reporting gateway, simplifying the user experience and allowing a transition for consumption-based billing - a strategic direction in the move to SaaS. This product is aimed at both internal users and external customers, allowing self-management for customers and reduce costs of ownership, as well as reduce internal operating costs and gain insights into user's needs and behaviours.

I defined the road-map, segmentation, and pricing by interacting with customers and reviewing the market potential, and ensuring the result is according to stakeholders' strategic directions for the company. I built-up a go-to-market launch strategy for the stand-alone product, from defining the segments, persona, and launch goals, to setting leading and trailing indicators and working across the business to track execution. This process was so well received, I am now helping mature the product-management practice across the organisation.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: designed, launched, and grew a new data-leak prevention product suite in the DocsCorp brand from inception to market leadership in Global Top100 Law Firms. 

As a late-entry product, achieved 90% current-customer conversion within a year of launch, and grew the product suite to #1 in its category within 3 years. Guided the product through continually innovating over the competition both in technology and with a broader problem definition to open new opportunities. Managed product work of 12+ developers at a time across several teams.

Worked daily with customers, sales & marketing, and R&D to develop new modules, new services, and a broader problem definition to increase market share. Defined and refined requirements, solved problems, managed two-way communications (build marketing messaging and gathering user-feedback), maintained agile roadmap to answer shifting market demands by packaging near-term demands into R&D releases while keeping true to long term vision, and managed a team of over ten developers, QA, and other specialists.

The product suite included modules for artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML), integration with Microsoft Exchange (on-prem and Exchange Online) and Office, integration with leading document management systems, SDK and cloud offerings. Worked with the CTO on improving the product management practice at DocsCorp. Worked with the global R&D manager in implementing SCRUM agile methodology for the development team.

Senior Product Manager

Macquarie University

Designed, launched, and managed a VMware-award-winning private-cloud solution to deliver virtual applications, appliances, and desktops of Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems to 40,000 students and staff on a variety of traditional and mobile devices. Gathered the requirements of all faculties, designed solutions together with datacentre architects, and oversaw implementation of new compute, storage, and network platforms to support the private cloud. The project won the VMware vForum 2011 Innovation Award, has enjoyed huge success amongst the student and staff users, and has been publicised in several industry magazines.

After design and launch, have also assumed project management responsibilities, including managing the team, timetables, deliverable, stakeholders, and a budget of $250K. Designed and implemented an enterprise deployment of Splunk, including reports, dashboards and market analysis for several University systems. Consulted on several other cloud-based and hosted solutions used throughout the university and across public/hybrid clouds for document management, process control, et al.

Provided complex solutions and troubleshooting to customers and the professional services group. Acted as liaison between Objective customers with live production systems, consultants and project teams, and the engineering department. Provided support, guidance and issue resolution for complex problems that arise in a wide range of environments and situations across database systems and multiple servers.

Devised complex solutions for the largest tier-1 customers, delivered high-level and detailed documentation and assisted with implementation projects of the solutions. Touched on all aspects of company’s offerings: electronic document management, records management, web-contents management, drawings management, web-portals, and desktop clients. SME for search and indexing. Managed critical issues: establishing and maintaining customer expectations and goodwill; ensuring proper external and internal communication channels by staff; ensuring proper attention from management, engineering and other internal departments.

Mentored and coached juniors and peers in technical aspects of the product, as well as internal processes and customer relations management. Involved in the hiring process (candidate selection) and ongoing performance reviews

Architected a new Clinical Enterprise Information System, from data modelling to server-side components for varied end-client support. The system is used to manage nation-wide hospital chains in APAC, EMEA and the US. Role included working with and bridging gaps of cutting edge technologies and intricate legacy systems.

Designed data models and workflows for the management of patient care-guides and medical protocols; standards interoperability such as the integration of the Asbru standard for medical data interchange. Produced high-level and detailed design documents, complex information / data models, integration hooks into existing products and assisted the test team with constructing test cases for the complex solution.

Coached and Instructed developers in various aspects of modern technologies, OOA&D methodologies and implementation techniques. Researched technologies and standards to apply to the designs. Platforms and technologies included J2EE, Oracle, Delphi.
