The solos who scale to $30k, $50k, $80k+ months all have one in thing common:

Clarity on their offer.

Most solos start with a pile of skills and a habit of custom scoping every project. 

This isn't bad, actually. You need to try everything to figure out what you love and what you hate. 

But if you want to scale AND start loving your business, clarity is key.

To get it, you need to dial in these 3 things:

1. The problem you solve

We want to see high impact, urgent, specific, and visceral. 

Something you've solved before and can solve again. 

Not vague. Not low-stakes. Not something your ICP will "get to eventually." And definitely not something with no clear owner inside the company. 

If nobody's responsible for fixing it, nobody's buying the solution.

2. Your person (ICP) 

Has budget, high pain, ready to move. 

They better be actively searching for a fix, not passively complaining about the problem. 

And by actively searching for a fix, we mean outsourcing that fix, not DIYers who want to "pick your brain" and do it themselves. 

3. Your process

Proven, repeatable, phased, documented. Something that gets a clear outcome every time. 

Not improvised. Not based on intuition. Not different with every client. 

If your process changes every time, you can't scale beyond a certain point. That's your call, but know it has big limitations.

I'm in my airplane seat, face covered with a pair of toddler sweatpants, bawling like a small child. Trying to hide from the other passengers. Failing miserably. Why am I even holding toddler sweatpants? Oh right, cuz my toddler ripped his pants off on the plane, while screaming, "I don't WANT to sleep. NO." His twin also won't sleep. She's just sitting there, crying, saying she wants to watch more TV. 

I can feel myself giving up. 

But then I remembered the three Irish ladies wearing matching capitalized BROOKLYN sweatshirts in the security line at JFK.

"You're doing great," they said to us as we collected our 8+ trays of stuff we had to put through security. 

That felt good to hear.

"Alright, you can do hard things," I said to myself.

So I stood up, ripped the toddler sweatpants off my face, opened my mouth to say something calming to my children and...

BOOM.

My three-year-old slapped me on my cheek. 

I don't remember what happened next, but it's two days later, and we're in England, enjoying our trip.

10/10 do not recommend flying with toddlers.

10/10 would do it again to get to experience new things with them.

This parenting thing sucks and is also the best thing ever.

THE END

Made a lot of enemies on LinkedIn this week, but a lot more friends.

Some people called my AI post rage bait. Wasn’t my intention, but if you don’t know me, I get it. Easy to assume the worst when you don’t know the full person or nuance behind the commentary. 

It’s almost always the 2nd and 3rd connections that assume the worst btw. The 1st connections get it because they’ve see many shades of you. Easier to defend someone when you know their character. Much easier to invent enemies in strangers.

There’s always a risk when you share polarizing stuff online. But I’ve been at this long enough that I don’t take any of it personally anymore. 

Which is why I take risks and am always unafraid to say what I mean, even if there’s emotion behind it. 

I don’t always get it right but hey I always learn something. 

But let’s be real you could say “I really like waffles” and someone will respond with “how dare you shit on pancakes.” That’s just online discourse sometimes 😂

Anyways thanks to everyone who engaged respectfully. Hearing your side even if it’s different than mine always means a lot.

I can’t disappear from LinkedIn for a few weeks then come back and talk about work. Doesn’t make sense when I haven’t been doing any. So I’ll say this:

Driving in England is insane. Not cuz it’s on the other side of the road. Got used to that in Thailand back when I lived there.

It’s cuz they ACTUALLY FOLLOW THE SPEED LIMIT.

Nobody drives above 20 mph in London. Nobody goes over 70 mph on the motorway. There are speed cameras and speed bumps everywhere. 

It’s the slowest motherf*cking experience of my life.

But I guess it’s safe?

Prob makes it easier for these buggers to sleep too. 

Anyways happy start of a new year will resume work posts shortly.

As ‘25 wraps and I reflect on 3 full years of consistently posting on LinkedIn, there’s a direct correlation between lower impressions and higher revenue. I know that sounds backwards but here’s why it makes sense.

When I started, I wanted followers and impressions for 2 reasons:

1. That’s what I thought I needed cuz everyone said so

2. I was selling low ticket products that require a high volume of buyers 

So I got ~10k followers in year 1 now I’m at 46k. 

But as I’ve shifted my business from low ticket to high ticket.

And from downmarket to upmarket.

I now only need ~30 of the right people every year to make seven figures.

In courses and group coaching that number was in the hundreds to thousands.

Of course I still need reach. Just not in the same way.

And of course this has nuance.

More impressions/followers can be useful if you’re running comarketing plays, like guesting on podcasts or if you wanna get invites to talk in communities.

People love when they feel your name or promotion will help attract more people to them.

It’s also good if you do influencer stuff. But I never have and never will just not my vibe.

So TLDR I never optimize for impressions or followers anymore because I don’t need to or want to.

But if it happens, it doesn’t hurt.

Hope this makes sense and is helpful. If you’re in high ticket services and don’t sell influencer spots you can prob do the same.

If you sell low ticket services or SaaS products or are trying to build a category more reach is prob helpful for you. 

And to answer an FAQ: “would I do it differently if I was starting from zero?”

No. Cuz I needed to go through it to get here. But if I started in high ticket services then yes I wouldn’t have optimized for virality. 

Our clients range from 1500 to 90000 followers and all make similar revenue. More followers doesn’t influence revenue like you’d think.

Someone asked in a private community if anyone’s ever torn their biz down and started over. I was like um hi it’s me I’ve done that FIVE TIMES. Here’s my message to her in case it helps you:

I've rebuilt my business 5 times. Literally torn it down and started again. 

2023: Cohort based business with a partner who ended up sucking majorly. Parted ways. Let her keep everything. 

Early 2024: Leaned more heavily into courses and was convinced I was going to be in the course launch business. Started to hate the non recurring rev part of it.

Mid 2024: Launched 1:1 offer content sparring and thought “this is it!” I was happy for 6 months then realized outcomes weren't as impactful as I wanted and I didn't love the work. Launched a few more courses cuz I couldn't turn them off mentally.

Late 2024: Teamed up with Nick and launched a group coaching biz. We quickly realized it wasn't giving us the energy we hoped it would. 

Mid 2025: Launched Duo with Nick, moved to 2:1 model, LIFE IS FINALLY AMAZING. Revenue + energy match perfectly. I imagine this is what I’ll do for years to come now. I finally have a business vision.

MY POINT: You gotta follow your energy and try all the things. It sounds like your offer and these clients may not be it. The money will go up again. But no revenue milestone is gonna fix your life if you're unhappy energy wise.

PS. Nick and I start helping people when they get to my mid 2024 moment. You’ve got an offer you like but something’s off. You don’t know how to scale, you aren’t in love with the outcomes, you want to move upmarket, etc.

There are so many levers you can pull in this moment and it’s so fun.

If you’re making $20k a month and having a “wtf do I want this business to actually BE?” moment, hit me up.

Forget my highlight reel. Our clients crushed it this year. Their wins = my wins.

So here are favorite client wins from 2025:

Evan went from $20k mrr to $50k mrr in 6 weeks.

Brian went from relying on referrals to every inbound prospect saying “found you through your LinkedIn content.” His rev also crossed six figures a month, nbd.

Dan landed his first ever retainer clients and finally replaced his arr salary.

Shannon massively shortened her sales cycles and hasn’t self abandoned on price in months. 

Steph niched further into the problem she solves and is finally “crushing” (her words) sales calls.

Brendan is reworking his offer and feeling “10000x” (his words) better pitching it to prospects.

Brad’s content is reaching the exact right people, he’s out of the recognition gap, and he just closed a huge deal with many more in the pipe.

We’re all looking for purpose in our work. I can’t think of a better purpose than helping people grow their biz and enjoy their life while doing it.

PS. I could share a collage of screenshots of client wins but that’s overwhelming so just going with the one and only Shannon (Sweeny) Curran who had an epic final week of the year.

This is the best time of year to ask yourself: What kind of business do I want to build?

We don’t ask ourselves this enough. Especially if we’re talented, capable, and successful by “winging our way through things.”

Most of the solos and micro agency owners we work with doing $50k+ months have no idea what they’re working towards.

They’re just working.

That’s only sustainable for so long.

By the way I don’t mean sit down and answer:

“What revenue targets should I hit?”
“How many clients do I need?”
“What's my growth trajectory?”

I mean ask yourself: 

"What's my vision for this business?"

This shifts your focus to what you're working toward, not just the tactics and targets to get there. 

It makes you think deeply about: 

"How does this business fit into the life I want to live?"
