• An initiative to improve team dynamics through the better analytical management of skillsets, capacity, and personality.

As an Associate at TopRight, I served as support and run several internal, partnership and client projects. Below, I have outlined a few highlights from my time as an Associate at TopRight:

• Led a grassroots, multi-channel campaign for a non-profit to support free speech from ideation, through research, to creation.
• Managed the relaunch of the TopRight website. 
• Helped in the brand relaunch of a Marketing Technology Operations Company in ~30 days. Our teams are also currently leading a multi-channel, co-branded campaign.
• Helped multiple clients assess the best possible marketing systems. This included technology sets, the people running those systems and the processes that enabling them.
• Assisted a multi-billion dollar Telco in establishing a partnership alliance program for the software industry.
• Currently leading an initiative to improve internal operations and efficiencies.

• On a team of two, my team helped rebrand a supply chain management software company. With a new brand narrative and a revised corporate sales deck, the company saw three consecutive record-breaking quarters of sales growth.
• Helped multiple clients assess the best possible marketing systems. This included technology sets, the people running those systems and the processes that enabling them.
• As a core member of TopRight’s internal marketing team, I assist in TopRight’s inbound marketing strategy execution including campaign ideation, content creation, influencer outreach, and funnel conversion strategy and tactics.

I was working on Yovo in the background for a while. I learned loads about entrepreneurship working on this project, but ultimately I could never get it off the ground. The idea was simple: 
- resumes are ineffective at screening 
- recruiting calls are filled with human error/bias

Using voice analytics, the plan was to help hiring mangers make smarter decisions by giving an objective look at conversations.

I was able to spin up exciting conversations in the enterprise, but eventually, I decided to focus my time and energy into Sorter.

First Founder Attempt

Healthgrades

Worked with Healthgrades as an initial member of their Elective Provider Solutions team. After building out the initial pipeline for Healthgrades direct sales model. We consulted with heads of marketing for enterprise level specialty practices to help design digital marketing solutions to best utilize Healthgrades.com. 

Tweaking and building upon market insights for our products- we were able to design action oriented campaigns for practices and their physicians. The challenge was not only to create campaigns that would succeed, but to create campaign designs that would sell in a market adverse to change. Through our work we found it was important to help providers:

 1. Make practices and providers more discoverable, 
 2. Increase new patient acquisition, 
 3. Enhance practices and providers' online reputations.

These were the three things we could do most effectively for our clients. 

At Healthgrades, there is a "healthy obsession" with driving a ROI for clients. So by working in concert with our clients, we help maximize their ROI by learning from our current marketing efforts, and making the proper adjustments as needed.

In my tenure there, I was:

•a top revenue producer on my team
•able to uncover optimization strategies not only in product design, but also sales and marketing strategy for both Healthgrades and clients
•built out entirety of the direct sales pipeline
•cultivated relationships with agencies and practices

Manager: Elective Provider Solutions

As a summer sales intern, I served as CEB's first interaction with HR executives. Cold calling on a territory of 100 HR executives, based in firms with annual revenues ranging from 50-750 million dollars, I was able to effectively introduce C-suite executives to CEB's valuable advisory resources. 

As an intern team, we were tasked with helping recruiting with their outreach to prospective employee's. We designed potent marketing material driving the impactful value of one's work at CEB, and the advantages of being a member of CEB's motivated workforce.

This is where I learned my love of sales and marketing, as I saw the impact I was able to have by effectively showing the benefits of Northwestern's Life Insurance products. Through this valuable experience, I was able to drive many never would be customers into the sales pipeline at Northwestern.

Also as a summer intern, I was tasked with analyzing financial statements for potential acquisitions. My timing when joining Carrboro Capital was especially advantageous, as I witnessed the acquisition of the local retailer Southern Season.

Private Equity Summer Analyst

Kidder Properties

Working for the four employee (including myself) start up Kidder Properties, I was able to effectively work cross-functionally with a litany of responsibilities that wouldn't have otherwise been given to a person of my age and experience. 

In my first summer with Kidder, I assisted in the analysis and acquisition of approximately 50 foreclosure homes. Comparing acquisition costs and renovation costs with the projected income from renting and ultimately selling the home, I was able to produce ROI reports. After openly discussing the tangibles and intangibles of these potential assets with my supervisor and the CEO, we would come up with a judgment for the perspective home. 

In my second summer, my focus shifted to the operational side of the business helping to reduce costs and improve the overall quality of the rental properties we provided. After analyzing the past performances of different purchased assets, I would determine if budget changes needed to be made to improve the long-term quality and therefore profitability of the home. Also in my final summer with Kidder, I helped train and coach a successor to take my place.

The holidays are not the worst season for getting replies. That would be July. Did you stop emailing then? ;)

I am never offended if your pet interrupts our call.

I'm offended if you don't show me the pet.

Am I cocky or am I just a 31 year old who spent 29 years of their life not knowing they have a personality disorder, autism, and ADHD and therefore didn’t get the support or love they needed because society was not built for people like me and is finally for the first time ever actually doing very, very well mental heath wise; for more than a year, consistently, and is making quiet yet huge moves that they’re excited to tell everyone about very soon, and is genuinely enjoying life and actually likes themselves for the first time ever because they actually know who they are now and accept that about themselves and because my (I’m the “they”) brain just works on a different operating system than the way society was built for? 

It’s like working with a Mac while everyone else has a Windows but taking 29 years to go “oh that’s why I don’t understand and these things keep happening this way, I’m using the wrong OS.”

And then realizing you’re not wrong, you’re different 

And then realizing that for 29 years you didn’t think you were different, you believed you were wrong

So yeah. I’m cocky. 

I’ve earned it.

I had a potential client tell me that they didn't want to hire a fractional CMO for $10k-15k/mo per brand they own, totalling $20k-30k/mo because they claim they can find a full-time CMO for one brand for less than the price of a fractional CMO.

That's literally not how math works.

Me at a gay bar last night… my friend: “Trump being our first out(ed) LGBTQ+ President was not on my BINGO Card.”

Me, a fellow Gay™️: “Really? With that much gender affirming care? Between the Jersey Shore look, the cheap wig, an Vance’s eyeliner, we all know who’s having the ice salad and who’s ordering the steak, if you know you know, wink wink nudge nudge.”

Politics is "how should we fund healthcare" or "how should we fund college"

Human rights is "who gets to get affordable access to equal, high quality healthcare" and "who gets to get affordable access to equal, high quality education"

Know the difference.

Ready isn't a feeling, it's a choice.

Do your due diligence, sure, but you do not have to have it all figured it out. 

Launch that business, get it wrong, reiterate, get the feedback, churn that customer, drop that ball, live and learn.

Being ready doesn't mean you won't make mistakes.

Being ready means you're deciding that you need to allow yourself to do your best, which means you will make mistakes, and you will learn from those mistakes, and you will keep doing this til the day you die.

Someone respectfully asked me why my content bounces back and forth between marketing and business content to political content these days. Maybe my answer will help you if you get asked the same:

I'm very fortunate to have built a following.

I'm by far not an A-list celebrity by any means.

On the categorization, I'd say I'm R-list at best, in terms of how much reach I can get with my little slice of the internet.

I know that by having a following, I have an opportunity to do things with it, even if it's a meager amount, as whatever amount it is, it is still more than nothing.

Some people donate their time, money, and resources to stand up for what they believe in.

and don't get me wrong, I do those things, too.

But in the world we're in where human rights are under attack as well as the foundations of democracy are under immense strain, speaking up and being loud about what is fundamentally correct, pragmatic, and human-first is one of the most powerful things we can do other than vote.

I am so grateful to be in a situation where I can literally afford to lose clients over what I say.

I can afford to protect myself and deal with the inevitable parade of stupid and hate that comes with being an extremely loud, queer, neurodivergent man on the internet. 

Not everyone has that.

I will use whatever I can whenever I can to do my part.

We all have ways we can contribute.

This is one of many.

and it just so happens to be a way I can.

Find your own way and take care of you, boo.

A lot of founder-led companies stall out for one simple reason: They hire Business Development before they build Marketing. BD is not a band-aid for founder burnout, folks... it is a scaling function. Marketing is the prerequisite.

If you don’t have:
• positioning
• ICP
• a narrative
• content
• demand-gen
• enablement
• a POV

…BD will fail.

I have zero success stories of the “BD first, marketing later” model working. Not one.

It’s a sequencing issue.

Which marketer do you want to hire?

Someone who tells you how or someone or does it?

I don’t ask how you found me when you book a meeting with me because I don’t know how. 

I ask how you found me when you booked a meeting with me because I was already pretty sure I knew how, I was making sure my marketing was working as expected. 

That’s the difference.
