I'll never forget the dream job I thought I had locked down. And then ghosted. 


Four rounds of interviews. Met with the hiring manager twice. Presented to the team. 

Even had a final conversation with the VP where he said, "We're really excited about bringing you on board. You'll hear from us this week."

Four weeks later, No call. No email. Not even a generic rejection.

My client Jessica came to me after being passed over for a promotion three times in two years.

Same manager every time. Same excuse every time.

“You’re not quite ready yet.”

Meanwhile, she was training the people getting promoted over her. Running projects her manager took credit for.

She’d spent two years trying to prove herself to people who’d already decided not to see her value.

“Maybe I’m just not as good as I think I am,” she told me.

Here’s what I told her: You’re not the problem. You’re just at the wrong table.

We built her exit strategy. Updated her resume. Optimized her LinkedIn. Targeted companies where her skills would actually be valued.

Six weeks later, she had two offers. Both paid more than her current role. Both came with the title she’d been chasing for two years.

She took the better one and handed in her notice.

Her manager’s reaction? Genuine shock.

Sure they were.

Here’s what I’ve learned: The people who never saw your value don’t suddenly see it until they’re about to lose you. And by then it’s too late.

If you’ve spent years being overlooked and undervalued, stop trying to prove yourself to people who’ve already decided not to see it.

Find the people who already do.

My client didn’t become more talented when she left. She just finally found somewhere that could see what was already there.

Stop waiting to be discovered at the wrong table.

I’ve watched people stay in the wrong job because they were scared of being called a “job hopper.”


Not because they were happy.

Because someone told them that leaving too soon would ruin their career.

So they stayed.

-Another year going through the motions.
-Another annual review that led nowhere. 
-Another promise of growth that never came.

All to avoid a label that most good hiring managers don’t even care about.

Here’s what I know after a decade of coaching people through this:

Job hopping doesn’t mean someone is unstable.

It means they know what they bring to the table and refuse to settle for less.

I’ve had clients with four jobs in five years. 

Every single move was a step up. 

More pay. Better culture. Work that actually excited them.

-They weren’t running away from something.
-They were running toward something better.

Staying somewhere that doesn’t value you doesn’t prove commitment.

It just proves you were too afraid to leave.
Know your worth.

Move accordingly.

Some recruiter once told me I was a “job hopper” because I switched jobs three times in two years.

I'm done watching capable people stay miserable because they're worried about how their resume will look.

Grinding away at roles that drain them. All because conventional wisdom says you need to hit some magic two-year mark or you're "uncommitted."

That thinking is outdated. And it's trapping talented people in the wrong places.

Here's the reality of those three moves:

❌ First company? Figured out in four months the environment was dysfunctional and offered zero advancement. Walked away.

❌ Second company? Decent bump in pay, but management was a mess. Walked away.

✅ Third company? Found the right match. Remote setup and nearly double what I started with.

Every transition was on purpose. Every step moved me toward what I actually wanted to build.

The reality is, exiting quickly isn't careless. It's knowing what you won't settle for.

The leaders worth working for don't hold it against you for walking away from bad situations fast.

They appreciate that you know your value and won't compromise on it.

Exit what's wrong quickly. Find what's right faster.

That's not instability. That's strategy.

Block non-negotiable time weekly to:
→ Think long-term
→ Review key problems
→ Ask better questions
Then write one clear next move.

✦ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 “𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝗯”
→ Choose 3–5 people with different roles,
experiences, or perspectives
→ Frame one clear problem
→ Generate multiple solutions
→ Test small, fast experiments
Improve as you go.

Your mind is your
greatest asset.

But how often do you
put your mental health first?

In today’s fast-paced world,
It’s easy to get caught up in work
and forget to take care of yourself.

I am guilty myself!

I’ve been struggling with it
for quite a while in my career.

I am improving, but
it still haunts me here and there.

The constant pressure,
long hours, and never-ending decisions
may leave you feeling drained.

If you neglect your mental health,
you can’t perform at your best.

I had to learn this
the hard way.

So, don’t make the same mistake,
as I did.

Hᴇʀᴇ ᴀʀᴇ 10 ᴛɪᴘꜱ ᴛᴏ ʜᴇʟᴘ ʏᴏᴜ ᴍᴀɴᴀɢᴇ
ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ ᴡʜɪʟᴇ ʟᴇᴀᴅɪɴɢ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴꜰɪᴅᴇɴᴄᴇ:

✦ 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀:
⟶ Define work and personal time.
⟶ Set your phone to "Do Not Disturb"
after 6 PM to avoid work emails.

✦ 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲:
⟶ Trust your team to take responsibility
while you focus on strategy.
⟶ Remember: It’s not all on you.

✦ 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀:
⟶ Spend 5 minutes each morning
journaling about your goals.

✦ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲:
⟶ Get 7–8 hours of sleep.
⟶ Schedule regular exercise
to stay energized.
⟶ Set a nightly alarm to
remind you to start winding down.

✦ 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁:
⟶ Coaches, therapists, mentors, or counselors
 ⟶ Join peer advisory groups or leadership circles 
⟶ Commit to a monthly check-in
to stay on track.

✦ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲𝘀:
⟶ Engage in activities outside of work
to recharge.
⟶ Schedule a hobby time weekly.

✦ 𝗕𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁:
⟶ Share a small challenge each week
with your team.
⟶ Vulnerability builds trust.

✦ 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲:
⟶ Support your team’s well-being,
creating a strong, healthy environment.
⟶ Celebrate small wins regularly

✦ 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲:
⟶ Use time-blocking to structure your day.
⟶ Set a timer for 50 minutes of work,
followed by a 10-minute break.

✦ 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀:
⟶ Every Friday, spend 15 minutes
reviewing your progress
and setting goals for the next week.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Prioritize your mental health,
and the results will follow.

I still remember my early days in my career.

I was a fresh junior, 
trying to figure everything out.

I didn’t need someone
to hand me all the answers.

I just needed someone
who didn’t make me doubt myself
for not knowing them yet.

There were moments I was unsure.
Moments I made mistakes.
Moments, I wondered if I was really ready.

And the leaders who changed my life
weren’t the most impressive ones.

They were the kind ones.

Those who:
→ Explained things, even the small details
→ Corrected me without embarrassment
→ Listened without rushing
→ Believed in me before I fully believed in myself

And that kind of leadership
shapes your identity.

Kindness is not extra.
It’s the foundation.

It creates safety that builds:
✓ Confidence
✓ Courage
✓ Persistence
✓ Faster growth

People may forget your title.

But they will never forget
how you made them feel 
when they were struggling.

Choose kindness.
It’s free.

And it always comes back.

⟶ What’s obvious to you may be new to them
⟶ Patience builds long-term capability
⟶ Ask, “Does this make sense?” 
instead of assuming

⤷ Spend 10 extra minutes 
walking through the process
instead of saying, “You’ll figure it out.”

✦ 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
⟶ Clarity reduces self-doubt
⟶ Share examples, not just expectations

𝙴𝚡𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎:
⤷ Show a past project as a reference
so they feel guided, not guessing.

✦ 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
⟶ Growth feels safer 
when perfection isn’t required
⟶ Share your own early mistakes
⟶ Remind them growth takes time

𝙴𝚡𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎:
⤷ Say, “I struggled with this too when I started.
But here’s what I did…”

✦ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻
⟶ Ask how they’re doing, how they felt about it,
if they are comfortable or not.
⟶ People perform better when they feel seen

𝙴𝚡𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎:
⤷ Start one meeting a week with,
“What’s been challenging lately?”

Tight chest? Fast heartbeat?
Clenched jaw? Shallow breathing?

That means anxiety is building.

From “I always mess up.” 
“I’m not good enough.”

Replace it with:
“I can improve.”
“I’ll take this one step at a time.”

Anger might be hurt. Avoidance might be fear.
Joking might hide insecurity.

If you get angry when someone cancels plans,
maybe you actually feel unimportant.

Scrolling for hours? Overworking?
Saying yes to everything? Ignoring people?

Pause and choose a better move.

𝙴𝚡𝚊𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎:
Scroll → Take a short walk.
Overwork → Set one clear boundary.
Avoid → Have the honest conversation.

✦ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
After you react, ask:
What did I gain?
What did it cost me?

Yelling may give quick relief.
But later, it may cause regret or conflict.

✦ 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀
“You interrupt.”
“You get defensive.”

Instead of feeling attacked,
treat it as helpful information.

Sometimes others see patterns we don’t.

Do you value honesty? 
Respect? Growth? Peace?

Match your actions to your values.

A – Antecedent: What happened before?
B – Behavior: What did I do?

C: Stayed up late, felt stressed, priorities slipped. 

The more you notice them,

8 Ways To Build Executive Presence

Are you familiar with that voice that tells you “you can't do it” or “it needs to be perfect”? Here are 5 mindset shifts that help you turn your Inner Critic into your Inner Mentor!

Inside your mind,
there are two voices that are always talking to you.

One looks for mistakes.
The other one looks for growth.

One says,
“You should’ve done better.”

The other asks,
“What can we learn from this?”

This is the dynamic between your
Inner Critic and your Inner Mentor.

The Inner Critic isn’t actually bad.
It’s protective.

Its job is to:
→ Prevent failure
→ Avoid embarrassment
→ Maintain control

But it often uses:
→ Harsh language
→ Comparison
→ Shame as motivation

Familiar with these lines?
“Everyone else is better than me.”
“I’m not good enough to handle this.”
“I’m just not good enough.”

That is your inner critic speaking.

Shame might push you 
to improve for a moment.

But over time...

It slowly affects your confidence.

While your Inner Mentor is gentle.
Also protective (but wise)

It doesn’t ignore mistakes.

Instead, 
it helps you understand
and learn from them.

The goal isn’t to eliminate the Inner Critic.

The goal is to notice it
and respond in a kinder way.
