The pointing fingers approach is a gag. I’m so bored of it. Sales and marketing is the same team.

Funnel velocity improves when teams stop treating every deal the same and start applying structure to how opportunities move forward.

Stage gate processes create that structure. They define what needs to be true before a deal advances, which prevents optimism from replacing qualification and keeps the pipeline honest. When each stage has clear criteria, reps spend more time on the right opportunities and less time chasing deals that were never real.

The impact is immediate. Leaders get better visibility. Forecasts become more accurate. Reps gain confidence because they know exactly what is required to progress an opportunity. And the overall pace of the funnel increases because there is less friction and fewer surprises.

A strong stage gate process is not bureaucracy. It is discipline. It creates a shared language for evaluating deals and a predictable rhythm for moving them forward. That predictability is what speeds everything up.
