Here’s why.

This isn’t theory btw.

The "right" sales process has:

So if you’re still chasing the “two call close”…

Stop.

Every time I hear someone say that, I already know:
Profits will tank (eventually).
Churn rate is high.
LTV is low.

Let’s break it down:

Here’s what actually works 👇

✔️ Call 1: Pre-discovery (5 mins)
Fast, brutal qualification.
Who are you a perfect fit for?
Who are you not a fit for?

The more you qualify out, the better.
Retention starts here - not after the client signs.

✔️ Call 2: Discovery (20–30 mins)

This call is everything. You talk 20%, they talk 80%.

Go deep:
Current revenue & future goals
Current lead flow & desired future state
Why does growth matter now?
What happens if they don’t grow?
What have they tried? What worked? What didn’t?
Have they worked with agencies before? What frustrated them?
What are their KPIs? Who are you really selling to?

Your goal here: understand the business better than anyone else has.

✔️ Call 3: Strategy session (60 mins)

Don’t pitch. Teach.

Walk through a custom-built deck with:
Deep audits (specific what they need)
Case studies from clients just like them
Simple language a 10 year old can understand 

And here’s the part most agencies won’t do:
Give away all your secrets - yes, everything.
If they can implement it without you, great.
If not - you’ve just made yourself the only logical choice.

Position yourself as the only person who took the time
And actually cares.

Everyone else is pushing the “sale”.

You’re over here building trust.

Then…

✔️Call 4: Decision call (15 mins)

Book this at the end of call 3.
Let them digest.
Use this call to answer final questions & blockers.

But don’t stop here.

Some clients will take weeks. 
Some, months.
And the ones who win the deal?
They’re the ones still adding value long after the pitch.

That’s what shows you care.
That’s what closes the deal.

Speed closes are massively overrated.
If you’re rushing the sale
You’re not selling on value.

And your clients can smell it.
They know you’re just chasing commissions.

If you’re selling on speed, not value -
You’ll either sign a client who churns,
Or lose to someone who gave more, taught more, and cared more.

After 2.5 years today is my last day at RevPartners. It'll also be my last day as the community manager with Sprocketeer. Here's a reflection on my journey and what's next.

Three years ago I'd been a sales leader who had been using HubSpot to drive more sales. Being at PerchPeek at the time, we'd hired RevPartners and I got to work with the legendary Brian Kreutz for the first time. I'd immediately become enamored with Revenue Operations and the notion that there's a role where we look beyond sales to grow a business from a holistic lens. 

After campaigning to join the RP team I immediately joined the Sprocketeer Discord and sharpened my tools by posting thoughts, opinions, etc to try to help those who were active. 

In the time since joining RevPartners I've:
- Taken on the role of community manager at Sprocketeer -- being a sounding board for ideas and helping to shape the community voice

Q: What happens to Sprocketeer?
A: It's never been a secret that being the community manager has been connected to my activity with RevPartners so with my departure from RP I'll also be stepping away from that role. Fundamentally, the community will still exist and I'll still be in there but I don't have answers on where it is going from here. I still hold all the love in the world for the community!

I firmly believe that as admin we need to double down on having an opinion. 

I've been mentoring admin unofficially for around a year now (and will be doing it officially soon thanks to Jennifer Nixon) and too many admin are afraid to offer an opinion that may be wrong. 

You will be wrong sometimes. 

That's okay. 

You are 100% better offering a solution that you feel is the best option over constantly asking the stakeholder "what should I do?". 

Be bold, it's okay to be wrong. 

Understanding diplomacy gies hand in hand with this. 

Did your opinion get vetoed? That's fine.. don't take it personally. 

Know when to push and when to fold but don't be afraid to speak up.

As HubSpot Admin we are going to HAVE to master the use of agents. 

That's why every admin should spend 30+ minutes every month vibe coding. 

Interacting with LLMs is so much more than talking to Chat GPT now and mastering the various ways that LLMs are used is critical to being successful as accounts grow and reqch scale. 

Vibe coding requires the use of a product manager mindset. You cannot build an app with a single prompt request. You will need edits. There will be unintended breaks when you add new features. 

Even with an agent vibe coding an app, the process is iterative just like building out a HubSpot instance. There are always improvements to be made and seeing an agent make an update only for you to realize there's 5 other things you need done in a follow up prompt is so translatable to working with HubSpot agents. 

I have episodes of the #SprocketPod podcast where I'd railed on LLMs in the past because they just couldn't do certain things and now agents CAN do those various things - if you prompt them correctly. 

Mastering your thought process and information translation for LLMs is a requirement to master being a HubSpot admin as you work with more mature accounts.
