I'm an accidental lawyer-to-be and I enjoy it. I started law school during the pandemic.

I didn't start to become a traditional legal writer. I wanted to write for the business of law, for entrepreneurs, and innovators. That meant I would need my writing to convert to actual sales.

+ Worked with Law Insider, a platform with 300,000+ customers in 50+ countries. I helped convert and re-purpose their famous "Contract Teardown Show." I helped them develop 4+ in-depth e-books on contract topics.

We laughed, we cried, and we cooked! When I joined Legaltech Hub, I knew I was working with some of the best people in #legaltech but this is unlike any professional experience I've had! Nicola (Nikki) Shaver, Chris Ford and Jeroen Plink have set the bar high. 

5 countries, 8 nationalities, and 21 people from around the world under one roof in Myrtle Beach! 🌊

And yet… it never felt like the first time we were meeting. Conversations were natural, laughter was constant, and the energy was exactly what you’d expect from a group of people who care deeply about the work they do and about each other.

I barely slept thanks to Cate Giordano (we had too much to catch up on and we’re still not done!), ate the best veg stew courtesy of Nicola (Nikki) Shaver, devoured Nabiha Khwaja’s ice cream, watched unreal sunsets, and consumed an unhealthy amount of cheese (and proudly brought some home).

There were Walmart adventures, long beach walks, cultural exchanges, mini-golf (where Luke Moss discovered my surprising proficiency with numbers), and multiple highly strategic runs to Target and other establishments.

Warm, nerdy, energized, curious, empathetic, and genuine are the words I would use to describe all of us. 

Everyone showed up with a little piece of home (yes, the snacks were amazing), and it turned into a global friendship built in just three unforgettable days.

A huge thank you and the biggest hugs to Katy Mills and Cate Giordano for orchestrating every detail and making sure our time together was truly special. It was incredible meeting everyone in person!

Some companies say “bring your whole self to work.” LTH says, “Sure—and here’s some cheese, socks to keep you warm, unhinged experiences, and maybe an award while you’re at it.” 

I’m home now… but still carrying 20 warm hugs from friends around the world. 💖

Icertis Acquires Dioptra and I cover that for Legaltech Hub. While reporting this story, what struck me was that legal tech is entering a phase where the real MOAT is depth, context and whether software can keep up with evolving customer needs.

Here are my three cents:

1. Legal teams want systems that work the way they work

The Dioptra story is essentially a story of listening. Their growth came from solving problems lawyers trip over daily: playbooks no one uses, redlines that feel disconnected from business reality, and obligations that disappear the moment a contract is filed away. Dioptra and Icertis share a focus on the full contract lifecycle—both pre- and post-execution—and that alignment is a major reason the acquisition fit so naturally.

2. The contracting stack is consolidating (but not for reasons people think)

This isn’t consolidation because “buyers want one vendor.” That line gets repeated so often it’s lost its meaning. The real pressure point is different: legal teams are exhausted by scattered tools that don’t talk to each other. They want consistency—of data, of context, of decisioning. When integrations start driving product strategy more than roadmaps do, it becomes obvious that the next wave of winners will be companies that can deliver coherence, not just capability. That’s exactly the bet being made here. And I remember writing about this as "all roads lead to one login" just a few months back. I'll also link that piece below. 

3. The edge isn't AI (it's more technical) 

It's what you can do with AI to solve problems. Solving the problem is at the heart of it and builders and buyers of legal tech should not forget that. I saw someone on Reddit saying that firms are rushing to buy the fanciest AI on the market to appear with the times and while no one can verify the accuracy of that statement, there is a lesson from it - don't go chasing after something just because it *appears* to work or is good for marketing. 

Farah GASMI says it's going to be about memory as we go forward. The contracting systems that will matter going forward are the ones that can remember how your business negotiates, what positions you’ve historically taken, where your risks live, and how those decisions play out over time. 

In my view, “better RAG” is the small win. The real work is building memory-aware retrieval, stateful agents, and workflow-native orchestration that can actually hold context end-to-end. And that starts with understanding the workflow, not forcing AI into it.
