We've been doing this for years.
(And it never gets old):

On my Accelerator calls, we don't share if we got a bunch of views or likes.

Because there are other programs (most of them, it seems) that teach that.

Instead, we focus on the wins people really want.

Conversions. 

And my favourite type of win is a stack of sales where there the post "underperformed" in views and reach.

It makes me smile. 

Because it serves to prove this:
More reach, engagement, likes and a focus on at virality are missing the point. 

Sure, they're helpful. 

But learning how to convert is the part people need to really work on. 

Having been in sales 22+ years I've seen a lot of magic moments. 

But here's one from the archives, years back.
(And a shoutout to Yinka Ewuola for always being a rockstar).

It just goes to show while most people are celebrating graphs of impression counts, 

we've always been celebrating client acquisition.

Why? Because that's why we're actually on LinkedIn.

There's one more thing though.

And it's a reason why people like Yinka win.

Her attitude. 

While I'm sure she'd like some more post views
And she has always been a practitioner of my suggestions
It's her self-belief that really makes the difference

Yes, your business is nothing without conversions,

but it's also nothing without that inner work too.

This is what a "great post" looks like on LinkedIn:
one where the dopamine is measured in your bank account.

But you only get there when you have the belief too.
Yinka's an epic example of that.

And just for context, he is:
- A solo business
- Doesn't have a team
- Working in recruitment

Leonardo does not spend all day commenting
↳ His focus is client work and DMs

Leonardo posts text-only content
↳ He doesn't use photoshoots and selfies

Leonardo's engagement is as low as yours
↳ He gets c.10 likes and a few comments per post

Leonardo doesn't care about impressions
↳ He's focused on the few right people he can serve

Leonardo writes his posts for the executives he serves
↳ Not flexing because he got some followers

Leonardo doesn't try and impress his peers
↳ He writes in a way that nurtures decision makers

Leonardo is in my LinkedIn Client Accelerator
↳ He's not in groups focused on likes and followers

Isn't it incredible how lean your business can be when you have a system.

Great content does a special thing
(And you're about to do it yourself)

There. You just did it.

It makes you stop and click.

On average, 300+ ft of content is scrolled per day.

That means the average viewer is very used to scrolling PAST content.

To interrupt that pattern and light up their brain requires one of two things:

A win
↳ The post stimulates them to feel there is something in it for them.
↳ Perhaps it's a shortcut or a hack they need.
↳ Or maybe it's emotional stimulation; something that looks good, nostalgic, sexy or shares a story.
In short, it needs to be something that they want to consume in that moment.

A threat
↳ The threat of a fight, scandal, reputation damage or a representation of fear is actually more of a draw to the average human and they almost cannot stop themselves looking.
↳ Ever notice how traffic slows if there's been an accident as people rubberneck?
It's the same principle. People can't help themselves

But there's also a third outcome.

And you have to avoid this reaction at all costs:

Indifference.

Anything other than the above and you're just helping make up that 300 ft of scroll.

That's the content graveyard and when your posts generate no interest it's usually because this was the feeling the viewer got.

Earn the click on "see more..."
Your great idea is nothing without a scroll stopper.

"Build it and they will come" is terrible advice
(here is what you really need to do):

This is the king of bad advice because it's both
- Passive
- Entitled 

So you worked hard
So you made a great offer
So you think people will like it

That doesn't mean they'll buy

Does it make you cry baby sad tears because "it's not fair"?

Welcome to business, friend
Where you EARN your results

Entitlement is poison

So, instead of waiting we need to do 4 things:

1. Before it's built, go tell people
↳ Warm the audience - work with them to ideate

2. When you're building go tell people
↳ Share the climb. They'll find it fascinating to watch

3. When it's built, go tell people
↳ Showtime! Go harvest those that supported you

4. When people have bought it, go tell people
↳ You're not done yet! Leverage the buyers to get more

See the common theme?

Proactivity. 

So instead of "build it and they will come"
its
"Build it, tell people, nurture them, present an offer, add more touch points, present another offer and even when they come, make sure you actually take the order"

Good question. Well,

if you’ve seen my content over the almost 8 years I've shared on LinkedIn, you’ll know I talk a lot about sales, psychology and communication.

But here’s the simple version:

I used to be scared of sharing my price

until I built the confidence to charge more.

Here's how:

First, let's be clear
- When people say yes and buy, you'll feel good
- If they do it a lot, you believe that price is fine

- When nobody says yes, you'll feel sad
- If they do it a lot, you start to question your price

So we need to take the first principle and create a situation where the buyer is happy to say yes.

A lot.

Sure, we think customers are more likely to pay a lower price point.
But that's not what's actually happening here:

It's YOU that believes it's worth it at that price. 
I mean, "how could they not buy it for only THIS amount?!" Right?

That belief transmits through your pitch and the confidence leads them to believe in you.

That is why the sale happens.

But we can't sit here underselling, we need to condition ourselves.

So, here's how to do it:
- We need to frequently hear "yes". Got it✔️
- So keep that lower price you believe in and close 5 of them
- Now, raise the price for the next 5 deals
- Then, do it again

Each time we naturalise to selling at a price and get a string of "yes" signals, we're more ready to nudge ourselves up another level.

Now, we believe in it. 
And so, they believe in it too.

Growing is a process. 
Give yourself a break and climb the mountain in steps.

If "human-ness" is needed, AI won't win
True? Not 100%. Here's what I mean:

For premium products
For experiential purchases
For the "moments" that matter,

...the interaction with and insights from a human really matter to us. 

For convenience 
For everyday purchases
For that we're not romantic about,

...AI can credibly replace the human.

But here's the twist:

Some humans aren't that great at the "human" bit:
- Human copywriters are often mediocre
- Human customer services can be lacking
- Human teammates drag bad days to work

In these scenarios, AI might synthesise "human" better than the human
Which we're often quite fine with.

However I believe strongly in one thing:

No matter how much AI can act like it "gets" me
It's not lived the experience itself

And that matters when we're trying to sell effectively
Because the best sales evoke a feeling

And it's the buyer thinking:
"I feel this person has lived (and solved) my problem too"

Connection (and a sale) can truly feel aligned and right, when this moment happens. 

"But you won't be able to tell the difference, Richard"
Yes, but you'll know it's not real.

What is an "effective brand"?
(Interested in your take⬇️)

I've observed:
Many in the brand building space judge "success" as: 
- More visibility
- More followers 

And sell these points as outcomes rather than measurables.

I feel this is wildly missing the point.

For me, an effective brand makes the right people step forward because they feel compelled to act / buy.

So, an effective brand is far more about alignment. 

And of course if you get that right, then you have something you can scale.

I used to get in my head if sales dried up.

And 99% of people take the wrong route out. 

Instead of:
• Pushing harder
• Blaming the buyers
• Thinking something's wrong

We need to fix what's in our heads. 

Because it's the perspective on things that changes it all

Watch and you'll see: it feels like strange advice. 

But when you realise the truth:
• It's all okay
• It'll get better for us
• Buyers never wanted "salesy"

You often find things change swiftly.

Almost always, the problem is us. 

Get the next sale and you soon realise very little changed. 

I like that. 
It means I'm more in control than it may feel.
