Over the past 3 years, I’ve built a $30M ARR business with 30 people.

Born and raised in Russia, I started working at 13—packing parachutes and skydiving. 🪂
By 18, I had 800+ jumps and enough saved to pay for my first year of college.

Jumping out of planes redefined my relationship with fear.
Once you commit, you act. Without hesitation.

I learned English in one year to study abroad—still the hardest thing I’ve done.
That brought me to Canada, where I earned a degree in Chemical Engineering.

I never used it.

My side projects opened doors for me—first to Deloitte, then to eBay.
But the real work happened outside the job.

I made time to build:
9–5 for the paycheck,
5–9 (both morning and night) for what I actually cared about.

That’s where I proved to myself—nothing is impossible.

In 2021, I met my cofounder. We went all-in and started building Stan.

Early in my career, 

I was making $8,000/mo writing code for a big company, while hacking away on side projects. I always wanted to work for myself.

One day, I was in a room with an entrepreneur who was upset about fees he was paying for software. So I asked:

V: How much are you paying?
M: 10%.

V: And how much money is that?
M: $50K/year.

My mind goes: no wonder he's upset. I bet I could do a simple Stripe integration with 3.4% fees. I already did something similar for my side project.

V: If I could get your fees down to 5%, how much would that be worth to you?
M: I'd pay $10K without even thinking.

V: I'm gonna do it for you for $10K.

It took me a weekend — 3 days (nights included), mostly repackaging code I already had across other projects.

I gave him a demo on Monday, and by Friday, $10,000 landed in my PayPal.

That weekend I learned: the right room + the right skills = life-changing opportunity.

I hired my Executive Assistant because of her napkin drawing 📜

Her name is Esther.

A year ago, I was looking for an Executive Assistant. 

Looking for the top 1%, I needed a way to test problem-solving and initiative.

So I gave candidates a creative test:

I was building a frame for a flying car as a passion project at the time.

How many ppl know anything about flying cars anyway? 🤷‍♂️

I wrote down an abstract description of a few parts I needed.

The assignment was to research machine shops and find a way to manufacture them 

When I reviewed Esther's submission, she had a picture of this drawing inside (see the image).

I invited her to my office:

V: "Do you know anything about manufacturing?"
E: "No… I study business and fashion"
V: "How did you get this image?"
E: "They drew it for me at the machine shop"
V: "You went to the machine shop?"

(I reviewed a few dozen submissions by then. All candidates just called).

E: "I called first but what they were saying didn't quite fit what you were looking for"

E: "I figured it'd be easier if I just go there to figure it out. "
E: "So I just walked over." 

V: "That must've taken hours. Why invest that time?"

E: "Umm... I didn't really think about it. I wasn't getting what I needed. So I did what I had to do."

Having heard this I knew the interview was over.

Anyone who thinks like that will succeed in anything they do.

She got the job.

And since then, Esther was behind a number of very unique experiences we created at Stan:

I asked a seasoned exec about his worst business decision.

He didn't miss a beat: "Cancelling the 9am."

For 10 years, he ran it daily.
The 2 years he stopped were his worst.

Without that anchor, people drifted in at 9:30.
Add coffee and "how was your weekend" — real work started at 11.

Half the day, gone.

The meetings weren't about updates.
They set the rhythm.

Remove that, and people rebuild discipline from scratch.
Exhausting.

¿Tienes un proceso para cuando te piden tu CV por correo, o improvisas?

"No fuiste seleccionada."

Entré a la página de la empresa por 50+ vez.
Ahí estaba: el cambio de estatus.

4 rondas. 4 semanas. Excelente conexión (según yo).  
Me había emocionado.

Una semana después de la última entrevista: silencio.  
Dos semanas después: más silencio.

Empecé a entrar a la página de la aplicación varias veces al día. Buscando el cambio. Buscando el email que no llegaba.

A la tercera semana, lo vi: "No fuiste seleccionada."

Y ahí empezó el espiral.

¿Qué hice mal? ¿Mi inglés? ¿Mi experiencia? ¿Por qué me dijeron que iba tan bien?

Revisaba el correo cada 1 hora. 
Repasaba cada respuesta que di. 
Buscaba el error que me costó el trabajo.

Hasta que me acordé de mi Coach: “Déjalo ir”.

Cuando escogen a otra persona después de la ronda final:

→ Agradece por el proceso  
Los NO siempre nos llevan al SÍ indicado. 

→ Date 3 días sin revisar correo  
Tu salud mental es más importante que una respuesta que probablemente no llegará (o que llegará *solo* en el momento indicado).

→ Borra todo relacionado a esa aplicación  
Como dice mi Coach: "El espacio vacío se crea para que lo nuevo llegue." Aplicación, notas de entrevistas, emails, todo.

→ Sigue aplicando  
La oportunidad va a llegar. Pero no llegará si dejas de moverte.

Las oportunidades que no son para ti, nunca lo fueron.  
Y eso está bien.

¿Te ha pasado llegar lejos y que te rechacen? ¿Cómo lo manejaste?

En una oportunidad rechacé una oferta excelente.

Empresa de tecnología global. Trabajo 100% remoto. Salario competitivo.

En papel, era perfecto.

Pero había algo que no me convencía 100%. Aquí jugó más "el cerebro del estómago".

No tenía sesión de Coach programada pero le pedí 5 minutos. 

"Si no estás segura, apártate para que otra persona lo tome. La oportunidad llegará."

¿Por qué no estaba segura?

El rol no se alineaba con mi dirección profesional. 
El equipo se veía chévere pero algo no hizo “clic” durante el proceso.  
Y aunque el salario estaba bien, tenía poca flexibilidad para tener mis consultorías al lado.

Rechacé la oferta.

Y sabes qué? Esa decisión me dio claridad sobre lo que realmente quiero.

Para ayudarme a tomar la decisión, uso estas 4 preguntas antes de aceptar cualquier oferta:

→ ¿Es amor a primera vista o solo "me gusta"?
→ ¿Me va a llevar a donde quiero llegar?
→ ¿Es el tipo de empresa donde realmente quiero estar? (Tip: Si no entiendes lo que hacen, déjalo ir. Este fue mi caso)
→ ¿Se alinea con mis metas financieras?

Aquí me ayuda ser "blanco y negro". Los "no sé" no me ayudan porque me dejan en parálisis de decisión. 

Y cuando dices "no" a algo bueno, te preparas para decirle "sí" a algo mejor.

¿Cuál de estas preguntas te cuesta más responder?

Vi la oportunidad perfecta. 

TODO me gustaba:

- El rol
- La compensación
- La empresa
- La cultura

Lo guardé en la mañana, para en la noche ajustar mi CV y programar un buen mensaje para la Hiring Manager. 

Tuve un día full en el trabajo y no logré terminarla ese día. La dejé para el día siguiente. 

¿Qué pasó? La embarré. 

La posición cerró. 2 días después de haber sido publicada. 

¿Crees que el ghosting es lo peor de cambiar de trabajo?

No, lo peor es ver la oportunidad de tus sueños y no “hacer el tiro” para lograrla. 

Aplicar imperfectamente SIEMPRE va a tener más oportunidades de que tengas el rol. 

No aplicar es ni siquiera intentar el tiro. 

NO. ESPERES. EL MOMENTO. PERFECTO. 

No significa que no ajustes tu CV. 

Significa que seas eficiente. Que agregue valor. 

Aplica a tu rol soñado. Y deja que el Universo haga su parte.

Primer lunes del año.

No necesitas:
- Tener todo resuelto

La claridad viene con la acción, no antes.

¿Cuál es una acción pequeña que vas a hacer hoy para avanzar en tu carrera?

Regresé de vacaciones esta semana.

Y no me hundí en reuniones ni emails sin responder.

¿Mi estrategia?

Antes de irme:
→ Dejé cero pendientes
→ Programé seguimientos para el primer día de regreso
→ Evité saturar un solo día con todo

Claro que sí, cerrar 2025 con cero pendientes fue intenso. Pero llegar a un 2026 suave y no caótico fue lo máximo.

Al regresar:
→ Tenía estructura, no caos
→ Pude responder tareas diarias mientras me ponía al día
→ Algunas cosas quedaron para el fin de semana (y está bien)

¿Por qué esto importa?

Porque manejo mejor mis proyectos, incluyendo mis Mentorías Laborales al lado.

Si no planifico las transiciones, todo se convierte en un "arroz con mango" que no puedo manejar.

Y lo mejor: Esta semana me sentí con energía para seguir construyendo mi negocio de Mentoría.

No agotada. 
No estresada. 
Energizada.

Porque la preparación antes de vacaciones = tranquilidad después.

Over the weekend, I read something from Justin Welsh that resonated a lot.

He's been dodging one question for years: "What's next for you?"

His answer? “Maybe quit everything and open a little brewery someday.”

When I read it, it sounded “easy”. Then, as an experienced business person, he explained what it would take to get to that final result.

Then, it sounded:

Big. 
Scary. 
And like something you'd never say out loud.

But then he explained what he's doing: Starting with the first small step to see if he likes it. 

And it clicked for me because sometimes our dreams are so big that:
a) We fear telling anyone because they might sound "ridiculous"
b) We get inaction paralysis because we don't know where to start

And this happens with career changes too.

The whole process can seem too overwhelming to even begin.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

My "big dreams" felt impossible until I took one small step:

How will I ever stay in London? → Sent one application
How do I earn more in Colombia? → Defined first how much I wanted to earn
How do I find fully remote work? → Wrote down my no-negociables
Can I really share knowledge online? → Posted once on LinkedIn. Then kept going

I didn't need to have it all figured out. I just needed to start.

Every big goal starts with one action.

That career change you see yourself in 2-5 years? 

It starts today.

What's the first small step for your next big move?

"Patricia, ¿lo amas o solo te gusta?"

Mi amiga me preguntó esto mientras me probaba ropa para mi primer panel.

Primera vez frente a una audiencia así.
Primera vez sin saber qué ponerme para este tipo de situaciones.

Tenía dos opciones:

El vestido: Lo amaba. Me sentía en mi piel.
El pantalón + blusa: Me gustaba. Se veía bien.

Me fui por el vestido.

Años después, una empresa tech global me hizo una oferta.

Salario competitivo. 
100% remoto. 
Todo se veía perfecto en papel.

Pero mi estómago decía que no.

Llamé a mi Coach. 5 minutos.

"Si no estás segura, apártate."

Le dije que no.

Y me acordé de mi amiga: "¿Lo amas o solo te gusta?"

Ahora sé la diferencia:

"Me gusta" = Te convences que es buena idea
"Amor a primera vista" = Lo sabes en el estómago

Cuando evalúes tu próxima oferta, pregúntate:
¿Es amor a primera vista o solo "me gusta"?

Tu cerebro del estómago sabe la respuesta.

¿Has rechazado algo que se veía perfecto en papel pero no se sentía bien?

P.D: Si estás en modo "supervivencia", la decisión es diferente. Acepta lo que te pague más, más rápido. Tener la cabeza sobre el agua es siempre más importante.

Pero si tienes el ancho de banda para escoger entre lo que amas y lo que solo te gusta, date el espacio para hacerlo.

Iba a decir el nombre de mi empresa.

Salió el nombre de mi cliente mezclado con el nuestro.

En medio de una revisión estratégica de la cuenta. La primera con ellos.

De la vergüenza me puse (y me sentía) roja. Quería que me tragara la tierra.

Estaba nerviosa. 
Cambiaba de tema rápido y se me cruzaron los cables. 
Estilo "Brangelina" pero versión corporativa.

Mi cliente se rió. Mis colegas también. Y seguimos como si nada.

Que pena. Mi primera presentación oficial como su CSM.

¿Y a pesar de eso?

Hoy es una de mis mejores relaciones con clientes. 
Hemos fortalecido la confianza. 
Y la cuenta ha crecido desde entonces.

No importa si te equivocas en una presentación.
No importa si te pones nervioso/a en tu primera vez.
No importa si es en inglés o en español.
Lo que importa es que sigas adelante y entregues resultados.

Los errores pasan. 
Lo que cuenta es cómo los manejas y que no dejes que te paralicen.

¿Te ha pasado algo similar en una presentación? ¿Cómo lo manejaste?

Hablar de productividad es super fácil. 

Pero cuando estás en el “terreno” el ritmo de manejar múltiples frentes al mismo tiempo puede “dañarte el caminado”. 

Y esto se aumenta cuando estás en la búsqueda de un cambio laboral, mientras trabajas tiempo completo (y de paso tienes otros “side gigs”). 

Puedes tener semanas al estilo: 
→ Reuniones con clientes en 3 zonas horarias diferentes
→ Envío diario de aplicaciones
→ Mantenerte activa/o en LinkedIn para ser visible para reclutadores
→ Mantener todo organizado sin que las cosas “se te caigan”

(Y todos los otros consejos que encuentras en todos lados que crees debes hacer)

¿La realidad? 

Algunos días fluyen perfecto. Todo encaja. 

Hay semanas en que las cosas se caen. Y sientes que todo es urgente al mismo tiempo. 

Cuando eso pasa, lo que me ha salvado ha sido:

-> Dejar tiempo en blanco en mi calendario.
-> Bloquear espacios para hacer seguimientos
-> Saber qué puedo “pasar” para otro día

La búsqueda laboral mientras trabajas tiempo completo no se trata de llenar cada hora.

Se trata de tener estructura Y flexibilidad al mismo tiempo.

Unas semanas lo lograrás. Algunas no. 

Y está bien. Es parte del proceso.

¿Cuántas aplicaciones enviaste esta semana?

Si la respuesta es "no sé" o "perdí la cuenta":
Necesitas un tracker.

A mi me han servido los trackers. 

¿Los uso 100% del tiempo? No. 

Hay semanas que lo actualizo todos los días. 
Hay otras en donde debo enfocarme en otras cosas y no lo actualizo tanto.

Pero cuando ESTOY en búsqueda, el tracker ha sido mi mapa.

No para obsesionarme con los números.
Sino para recordarme en qué procesos estoy y qué tan avanzada/estancada estoy. 

Yo he usado Teal o un Google Sheet simple que me ayudan a identificar:
→ Fecha aplicación
→ Empresa
→ Rol
→ Estado (Aplicado/Entrevista/No Selecciona/o/Oferta/No Respuesta)
¿Por qué funciona?

Después de 20-30 aplicaciones, te ayuda a ver:
- Cuánto tiempo toma cada fase
- Tu "ratio" de éxito
- Dónde estás quedando atascada/o

También te da control.
En vez de "envié muchas," sabes exactamente: "Envié 15, 3 respondieron, 1 avanzó."

Este fin de semana:
→ Crea tu tracker (plantilla gratis en comentarios)
→ Agrega tus últimas 10 aplicaciones
→ Define tu meta para próxima semana

Actualizarlo diariamente toma menos de 5 minutos. 

El tracking no es para presionarte.
Es para empoderarte con datos y ayudarte a sacarla del estadio.

No hay hack para conseguir trabajo.

Y quisiera que no fuera así. 

Pero no. Y me encantaría decir (y tu escuchar):

"Usa esta estrategia secreta"
"Aplica solo aquí"
"Di estas palabras y listo"

Pero no funciona así.

Lo que funciona: Hacer el trabajo. 

→ Enviar aplicaciones estratégicamente (no enviar por enviar)
→ Construir relaciones con los reclutadores
→ Estar visible en donde las empresas que quieres interactúan
→ Mejorar tu presentación cada vez

¿Hay formas de ser más eficiente? Claro.

→ Aplicar rápido - Dentro de las primeras 24 horas es mejor. 
→ Ajustar tu CV a la descripción del cargo que estás haciendo. 
→ Usar IA para prepararte y ayudarte a ser más eficiente.

Pero estas son herramientas.
No reemplazan el trabajo.

Y yo también he buscado el atajo.

Cuando enviaba 50+ aplicaciones en Londres:

Aplicación #20: "Debe haber una forma más fácil."
Aplicación #30: "¿Por qué otros lo logran más rápido?"
Aplicación #40: "Esto no está funcionando."

Pero seguí.

No porque encontré el hack.
Sino porque así aprendía a mejorar y persistir.

Y sí, requiere disciplina.
Y sí, es difícil.
Y sí, hay días que no quieres hacerlo.

Pero la alternativa es:

No hacer nada.
Y esperar.
Y esperar.

El trabajo duro no es sexy.
Pero es lo que funciona.

Ahí está el crecimiento.

¿Cuál es el trabajo duro que estás evitando en tu búsqueda

No te seleccionaron después de la última ronda.

¿Y ahora qué?

Duele. Y hay que actuar. 

Aquí está lo que me ha funcionado para seguir adelante: 

Día 1 (Primeras 24 horas):
→ Permítete sentirlo (rabia, tristeza, miedo, felicidad, etc)
→ Agradece (si es un correo que no rebota) y borra el email de rechazo
→ Haz algo que no sea trabajo (caminar, gimnasio, cocinar)

Día 2 (Siguientes 24 horas):
→ Actualiza tu tracker (marca como "no seleccionada/o")
→ Identifica 2-3 nuevas posiciones
→ Aplica a al menos 1

¿Por qué funciona?

Porque no dependes de "sentirte mejor." 
Tienes pasos concretos que puedes seguir aunque no quieras.

Me ha funcionado cada vez que no me han seleccionado (después de aprender con mi Coach que no tiene sentido aferrarse a algo que no fue) 

Este fin de semana:
Si estás esperando respuesta de algo y te dijeron "no":
Sigue estos pasos.

¿Cuál es tu ritual de recuperación después de que no te eligieron para la posición que soñabas?

"¿Cuál ha sido tu MRR y tu ARR este año?"

Me quedé en blanco.

Estaba en la segunda ronda de entrevistas para un rol que REALMENTE quería. Una empresa de SaaS en crecimiento. Trabajo remoto. Salario en USD.

MRR. Lo había escuchado pero no me acordaba del significado. 

Finalmente pregunté: "¿Te refieres al Monthly Recurring Revenue, es decir, mensual, si?"

Silencio incómodo.

“Si, cuál es tu MRR mensual con tu portafolio de clientes.”

Qué vergüenza. Qué primiparada. 

No conseguí el rol.

Pero esa vergüenza me enseñó algo crucial: No saber algo en una entrevista no te descalifica. Cómo MANEJAS no saber algo es lo que importa.

Aquí está lo que hago diferente ahora:
→ Si no conozco un término, pregunto directamente (aunque me de “pena”)
→ Investigo las métricas importantes de la industria/rol ANTES de la entrevista 
→ Tengo una lista de "preguntas básicas" que hago al reclutador en el screening
→ Tengo los datos de mis propias métricas preparados (Si no los sé yo, ¿cómo otros van a creer en mi experiencia?)

La próxima vez que no sepas algo en una entrevista:

No finjas que entiendes. 
No te disculpes excesivamente. 
Solo pregunta: "¿Me podrías explicar [término] para asegurarme de que estamos hablando de lo mismo?"

Los buenos reclutadores respetan la honestidad. 

¿Te ha pasado algo similar en una entrevista? ¿Qué término o acrónimo te dejó en blanco?

El mes 2 de la búsqueda laboral es cuando la mayoría se rinde.

Las primeras semanas tienes energía. 
Emoción. 
Aplicas a 10, 15, 20 posiciones.

Pero después del rechazo #15, la motivación desaparece.

Y aquí es donde la mayoría comete el error: esperar que la motivación regrese.

No va a regresar.

Lo que te mantiene moviéndote no es motivación.
Son tus motores.

Estos son los 4 motores que te ayudan a seguir cuando todo en ti quiere tirar la toalla:

→ Dinero (¿Cuánto quieres ganar?)
→ Salud (¿Qué te da energía?)
→ Relaciones (¿Con quién quieres conectarte?)
→ Crecimiento (¿Qué quieres aprender?)

Para seguir adelante, lo mejor es tener una combinación de 2 o más motores. 

Cuando los decidas y llegue el rechazo #20, #30, #40:

No te preguntes "¿Tengo motivación hoy?"
Pregúntate "¿Por qué estoy haciendo esto?"

Cuando los he usado, mi combinación usualmente es: Dinero y Crecimiento

Y cuando flaqueo, esa respuesta me ayuda a seguir en los momentos más difíciles.

Con tu respuesta vas a seguir también.

La motivación es una emoción.
Los motores son tu guía para seguir avanzando.

¿Cuáles son tus 2-3 motores que te mantienen moviéndote cuando la motivación desaparece?

"Can you repeat that, please?"

Lo dije como 5 veces en la misma clase.

Estaba en clase de cálculo en mi Maestría. 
En inglés. 

El profesor era excelente.
Pero hablaba super rápido y no siempre le entendía. 

Un acento gringo al que mis clases, mi práctica y las películas no me prepararon. 

Primera semana: "Can you repeat that?"
Segunda semana: "Sorry, can you say that again?"
Tercera semana: Ya me daba pena preguntar.

No había parciales, pero cada semana la sentía peor que la otra. 

Pero nada, o preguntaba o me tiraba la materia. 

Así que volví a preguntar.
Y a preguntar.
Y a preguntar.

Y bueno, el exámen final me lo tiré. No por el acento, sino porque el cálculo no era mi fuerte.

Años después, trabajando con un cliente me pasó lo mismo:

No entendía cuando me hablaba.
Mi oído estaba más preparado para los acentos.
Pero me estaba impacientando conmigo misma porque no volvía a entender.

Pero no tenía opción: 
"Can you spell that for me?"
"Is this correct?"
"Can you repeat that last part?"

¿Sabes qué pasó?

Fueron súper pacientes.
Respondieron a cada pregunta.
Y hasta yo me reía cuando reconfirmaba si lo estaba escribiendo bien. 

La relación funcionó perfectamente.

No importa si no entiendes el acento.
No importa si tienes que preguntar 5 veces.
No importa si sientes vergüenza.
Lo que importa es que PREGUNTES.

Preguntar no es debilidad.
Es la única forma de entender.

¿Te ha pasado no entender el acento de alguien en el trabajo? ¿Cómo lo manejaste?

"El que quiere azul celeste, que le cueste."

Mi entrenador de atletismo me decía esto cada vez que estaba por tirar la toalla.

El contexto: Preparación para juegos suramericanos colegiales. Lanzamiento de jabalina. 7-9 meses de entrenamiento de lunes a sábado.

La rutina: lanzamientos en 3 niveles de esfuerzo. 20-30 repeticiones por nivel. Suave, medio, máximo. Carreras sin jabalina para perfeccionar la técnica.

Me gustaba el resultado. 
No me gustaba hacerlo.

Había días en los que llegaba emocionada. Lista para darlo todo. Hacía los ejercicios completos sin quejarme.

Pero había otros días en los que solo quería hacer la mitad.

Y cuando mi entrenador veía que no avanzaba al ritmo que debía, desde lejos me gritaba la frase.

Yo me quejaba internamente. Pero sabía que tenía razón.

El entrenamiento tenía una razón de ser. Si no hacía las repeticiones, mi cuerpo no iba a estar preparado. La meta era llegar a la competencia con el mejor rendimiento físico y sin lesiones.

Era estar preparada para dar lo máximo.

Es lo mismo con tu búsqueda laboral.

No importa si un día no quieres enviar aplicaciones. 
No importa si el día de la entrevista algo personal pasó. 

Lo que importa es que lo hagas. 
Que te prepares diariamente para cuando llegue tu oportunidad.

No es tirar la toalla.

Es seguir adelante incluso cuando tienes pereza, miedo, o frustración.
