I’m an entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience building global companies and digital products.

I founded Product School in 2014, which is the global leader in product training with a community of over two million members. All of our instructors are real-world Product Leaders working at top Silicon Valley companies including Google, Meta, Netflix, Airbnb, Uber, and Amazon.

Prior to Product School, I founded Floqq, the largest online education marketplace in Spanish and Portuguese at the time. Floqq joined the 500 Startups and Startup Chile accelerator programs.

My educational background includes Certificates in Global Business Management and Marketing from the University of California, Berkeley, a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.

I co-authored the Amazon bestseller The Product Book. Additionally, I've participated as a speaker in more than 1,000 events, conferences and classes around the world. 

Outside of work, I love skiing and playing tennis.

Therapy Layer

I started Therapy Layer to solve a problem for The DBT Center of Marin related to the delivery of adherent dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills coaching. The product called "Relay," provided clients with self-guided skills coaching while routing requests to a network of therapists. After conducting trials with several therapy centers in the US, we decided to take the company in a different direction and founded TheraHive (see above).

At Pantheon I am responsible for the global marketing strategy and organization—I’ve led during a $40M series D raise and an aggregate 45+% year over year growth across our online and enterprise business. I’ve built functional teams and set up a “from behind” marketing organization to drive growth through proper attribution, demand generation or product marketing. We hit an important milestone when we drove the creation of “WebOps” as a recognized category—Pantheon was in the leadership position when G2Crowd launched the category. The team is a leading agile marketing organization (80% of the team certified) that is applying growth marketing across our programs (e.g. 12 web tests a month on our website) targeting both the marketers and develops on high-performance web teams.

Oracle

At Oracle I focus broadly on supporting/leveraging the community of users who rely on our solutions. This includes managing the largest developer community in the world -the Oracle Technology Network (OTN)- as well as working closely with MyOracle Support, Global Customer Programs, the Oracle Partner Network, Oracle University, Oracle Academy and others to drive customer success and adoption of our latest technologies. 

One of the key programs associated with OTN is the Oracle ACE program which is a three tier advocacy program that requires peer and development team review to gain membership. The individuals in this program are highly influential and have a demonstrated impact on technology adoption and pipeline conversion. They are involved with approximately 20% of won opportunities, help shorten deal cycles by 18%, and increase deal size by as much as 44%. 

I am part of a cohort of marketers who joined Oracle through strategic marketing related acquisitions (Involver, Vitrue, Responsys, Eloqua, BlueKai, etc). Collectively we are working with key internal marketing leaders to modernize our marketing practice through the implementation of a new marketing platform that leverages acquired technologies. In short, we're working as intrapreneurs inside a big company.

QuickRak is a small venture that I started with a friend to solve a problem for urban cyclists (and ourselves). QuickRak is a lightweight, portable and convenient way to put your bike on a car. This innovative rack is designed for cyclists and fits under the saddle of their bike.

As a marketing executive Roland offers experience at growth stage and enterprise companies. As a leader he brings an operational and product-oriented mindset to marketing and a strong track record establishing high-performance teams focused on customer experience, brand, category creation, demand generation, business development, content/inbound marketing, AR/PR, and community programs. Roland is passionate about martech and innovation methods, he was an early evangelist in the Agile marketing movement. Author of The Agile Marketer: Turning Customer Experience Into Your Competitive Advantage (Wiley 2016) and co-host of The Marketing Agility Podcast.

Roland has over 20 years of experience leading marketing teams focused on propelling disruptive products and services into the market from CPG to MarTech, and PaaS. Previous to serving as CMO at Product School, he led marketing at Pantheon during the most significant period of growth and served as the vice president of social and community marketing at Oracle. He’s also held marketing leadership roles with Involver (acquired by Oracle), Sprout (acquired by InMobi), and at AdaptivePath (acquired by CapitalOne). 

Roland was a founding member of the Business Agility Institute and serves on the board of Horizon's National an award-winning, tuition-free, academic and enrichment program serving low-income, public school students on the campuses of independent schools, colleges, and universities across the country.

Roland lives in Marin California with his wife and two sons where he can often be found hiking and mountain biking or running in Golden Gate Recreation Area.
