As a digital marketing strategist, I help brands build meaningful relationships with stakeholders and scale them through digital channels. I run Valchanova.me, a hub for my consulting practice and a blog on marketing, digital strategy, and growth.

My core competencies include strategic research and planning, content marketing, brand messaging, and copywriting. I have worked with brands in various industries, from e-commerce to SaaS, from business services to luxury design. I have also trained more than 2,000 students and spoken at conferences across Europe. In my spare time, I organize popular science events with Ratio, fueling the passion for science in those who don't know they have it yet.

Forget Less Is More. Sometimes More Is More.

Minimalist packaging stripped things back, then it multiplied. One understated label became a category look, then an aisle look, until shelves started looking like a Scandi soap opera.

Once an aesthetic saturates a category, polishing it won't shift behaviour. The sharper move is lateral, because shifting the level of visual detail  gives the eye something new to catch. That matters at shelf, where people make decisions fast.

Attention runs in cycles. At shelf, shoppers scan quickly and filter even quicker, and most decisions still happen right in front of the product, often in seconds, with only a small fraction of packs breaking that automatic sweep.

That moment of interruption is where design actually has real influence. Some packs barely register, while others create a pause.

The pause sits in the break from expectation. When something reads differently from what surrounds it, autopilot drops out and the brain switches back on. Illustration density, scale, texture, contrast and proportion all work together to create that reset.

Designers who understand this use it deliberately. Whitespace can guide attention, and visual richness can hold it. Controlled complexity adds enough interest to pull someone in instead of encouraging a quick skim.

Tiger Pan's Lowen Beer pushes this idea to its limit. The can opens into a dense illustrated world with engraved imagery, Tarot-like symbolism and narrative detail running edge to edge. Its depth comes from craft, not chaos.

None of it is accidental. Power sits next to vulnerability, and chaos next to control. Martin Mörck's woodcut style adds weight and tactility, giving the surface a sense of substance that naturally holds the eye.

As attention moves through the detail, the hand stays with the pack. Longer dwell builds stronger memory, and stronger memory builds recognition.

This is where many contemporary packs fall short. When everything stays restrained, there's nothing left to explore. Visual richness, when it's applied with discipline, gives people a reason to linger and something worth returning to.

More is not automatically the right answer for every brand or situation. But when an entire category settles into the same stripped back look, adding thoughtful detail becomes one of the most precise and effective moves a brand can make.

Sometimes more is exactly the right call.
