Mark C. Updegraff moved to Rochester, NY in 1997 to pursue his Bachelor's of Science from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Imaging and Photographic Technology.  As an undergraduate student he participated in co-operative work academic quarters for NASA, Pictometry, and as an independent 4x5 film photographer.

In 2003, after working for Kodak, Mark took a position in RIT's Center for Imaging Science and began his Master's studies in Color Science.

Mark took a position with ITT Corporation in 2009 where he worked on video quality metrics, end-to-end spectral imaging systems, and electro-optical systems for high altitude aircrafts.  

In 2010, Mark decided to focus his efforts fully on his real estate redevelopment companies; Wedge Redux LLC, Ward Redux LLC, and Raze Capital LLC.  These companies rehabilitate neglected properties into fully refurbished, market rate, rental homes in the greater Rochester area.

Mark now oversees Updegraff companies in the development, management and brokerage of residential, commercial, and mixed-use real property.  His vision for Upstate NY, real estate, and technology are evident through his plans and generated results.  

Mark is a city of Rochester advocate, employer, entrepreneur, and business owner.  He is passionate about striving to provide safe, clean, affordable, sustainable, adaptable, space for the community at large while garnering the best and brightest minds in an effort to stimulate the economy through creativity, innovation, and workforce development.

Currently Mark spends time raising capital for syndications in the industrial, multifamily, self storage and built to rent asset classes while overseeing the operations of the Updegraff Companies.  His leadership style attracts other leaders eager to deploy new technologies, hone their skills and take massive action.  Under his guidance associates are able to independently flourish into peak producers in their own strengths.  When assembled together as a team a colossal amount of creativity is unleashed and goals and expectations are significantly exceeded.

Architecture, art, and design are my passion, but what I love most are beautiful spaces that solve difficult problems and create rich shared experiences in ways previously unimagined. 

As a designer, my primary focus is on listening to my client’s needs. Design is a collaborative process, and working together with clients is the only way to create innovative design that realizes their vision and also solves real problems. I’ve been designing and making art my entire life and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and guiding clients through this creative process. 

As a project manager, my goal is to ensure that no obstacle comes in the way of realizing that vision. Clients appreciate my 20 years of national and international experience completing the most challenging architectural, public art, sculpture, decorative art, product development, and retail projects from origination to final installation. This experience guides me every step of the way in achieving success.

What I appreciate about these awards is that they don’t just celebrate big numbers — they highlight deals and projects where thoughtful planning, smart capital, and disciplined execution actually change how people live, work, and do business.

When I review submissions, I ask the same core questions:

1) Did this deal solve a real problem or unlock hidden value?
2) Is the improvement visible on the street, not just in the pro forma?
3) Will the impact still be felt five or ten years from now?
4) How did this project serve the community in positive ways? 

The teams behind these transactions rarely get public recognition, but they are the ones navigating complexity, aligning stakeholders, and quietly upgrading the built environment one deal at a time. This is the real value that real estate professionals create, and it makes a difference.
