At the age of 16, with 256 Kbps Internet speed, I started my career as a self-taught graphic designer. 

After landing a few projects, I was hungry to keep learning more, and that's how I landed in web development. 

At the age of 18, while still pursuing my education, I launched my first product around WordPress security, which did wonder. It not only paid for my entire education but helped me become financially independent as a teenager.

However, I exited that project and continued with my college and freelance development. 

At the age of 20, I met my first co-founder Oscar Hernandez (He has been my co-founder ever since in everything that we do), known as Power Up Hosting; I ran the company for over 7-years before exiting. 

At 24, I started India's first PBN Hosting platform, which I later exited in 2017. 

My life changed when I launched my third startup, which failed severely and changed my whole life. 

It taught me some of the most valuable life lessons, including management, team hiring, and more. 

The failure of my third startup gave me the idea of PitchGround (My most successful startup to date, currently valued at $20m as of 2022). PitchGround is a SaaS Marketplace that bridges the gap between early-stage SaaS companies and early adopters, small-medium-sized businesses. 

With over 92% of the SaaS companies failing in the first three years of their business, our mission was to resolve this unresolved market worth over $200 billion. 

During this journey, I met my second co-founder Lukas Liesis, building the company's core foundation.

Action: If you're a first-time founder, partner with someone who has an exit or deep domain authority. It compresses 2+ years of trust-building into one pitch.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹-𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 CRED monetizes existing credit card users. Zepto aggregates demand, doesn't own inventory initially. Udaan connected existing retailers. 

Action: Asset-light scales faster than asset-heavy. If your model requires ₹100 crore to prove unit economics, you'll lose to someone proving it with ₹10 crore.

Speed to unicorn isn't luck. It's picking markets with existing budgets, leveraging founder credibility, and building capital-efficient models.

The fastest unicorns didn't invent demand. They redirected it.

2,027 dark stores supporting 1.7 million daily orders means each store handles approximately 840 orders per day. That's high-density operations – multiple stores per area, not spread thin across many cities.

When quick commerce brands operate at this density, delivery costs per order drop significantly. One rider covers multiple orders in a small radius instead of long-distance single deliveries.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻

Blinkit's path to profitability shows that scale alone doesn't fix losses – operational density does. 

Having 2,000+ stores means nothing if they're scattered. Having them concentrated means delivery economics improve dramatically.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Before expanding to new cities, check if your current locations are operating at full capacity. If your delivery partners are doing 3 orders per hour instead of 7, you don't need more geography – you need more customers where you already operate.

Quick commerce profitability isn't about being everywhere. It's about being profitable where you are, then replicating that model.

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Track your top 20% SKUs daily. Build a simple model: Day of week + weather + festivals = predicted demand. Reactive ordering kills cash flow. Predictive ordering protects it.

𝟮. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮-𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 They operate 300+ dark stores and warehouses across cities – small, localized, fast. 

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Don't build one giant warehouse dreaming of scale. Start with 2-3 small fulfillment hubs in different zones. Test delivery speed and costs, then replicate what works. Proximity beats size every time.

𝟯. 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 ₹9,867 crore revenue from 10M users = ₹9,867 annual revenue per user. They're targeting ₹15,000+ crore by FY26 through retention, not ads. 

𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Measure monthly repeat rate. If it's under 25%, fix product quality and delivery consistency before burning cash on new customer acquisition.

BigBasket didn't scale by working harder. They scaled by building systems that work without founders micromanaging.

Your D2C won't break at 100 orders/day. It'll break at 1,000 unless you're building systems today, not tomorrow.

HUL has bigger marketing budgets, global brand power, and decades of FMCG dominance. Yet ITC's Engage outsells them. 

The reason isn't advertising – it's distribution.

𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗠𝗖𝗚

ITC owns one of India's deepest distribution networks through its cigarette and food businesses. When they launched Engage, they didn't need to build distribution from scratch. They plugged into 5 million+ retail outlets already carrying ITC products.

HUL has strong urban distribution, but Engage reached tier-2 and tier-3 towns faster. Kirana stores already trusted ITC. Adding one more SKU was easy.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗶𝘀:

Brand power gets you attention. Distribution gets you sales. If your product isn't where customers shop, marketing spend is wasted.

Before launching, map where your target customers actually buy. If they shop at kirana stores but you're only on Amazon, you're missing 70% of the market. If they buy at salons but you're focused on retail, distribution is broken.

ITC didn't out-market HUL. They out-distributed them. In FMCG, shelf space beats ad space. Access beats awareness.

𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: Can customers buy your product where they naturally shop? If not, fix distribution before scaling marketing.

In 1978, James Dyson bought a new Hoover Junior vacuum cleaner. It kept losing suction. The bag clogged with dust. Frustrated, he ripped it apart.

He'd seen a sawmill using cyclone technology to separate sawdust from air. Could this work on a vacuum? He taped cardboard to his Hoover, replacing the bag with a crude cyclone prototype.

It worked.

𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲

James knew he was onto something. But perfecting it took five years. He built 5,127 prototypes. 5,126 failures. His wife supported them on her art teacher salary. He went into debt.

Every major manufacturer rejected him. Hoover, Electrolux, all said no. The vacuum bag market was worth £500 million in Europe alone – no one wanted to kill that revenue stream.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵

In 1986, a Japanese company licensed his design. The "G-Force" vacuum sold for $2,000 in Japan, became a status symbol, won the 1991 International Design Fair prize.

Royalties from Japan gave him capital. In 1993, he launched DC01 – his own bagless vacuum in the UK. Within two years, it became Britain's best-selling vacuum despite being the most expensive.

Hoover tried copying his design in 1999. James sued for patent infringement. Won.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀

₹55,440 crore revenue (2024). ₹4,710 crore pre-tax profit. 20+ million products sold annually. 14,000+ employees globally. 

James Dyson net worth: ₹1,26,770 crore ($15.1 billion as of Feb 2026). Spends ₹67 crore weekly on R&D. 238 patents filed in 2024 alone.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀

𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁: 5,126 failures taught James what didn't work. Each prototype eliminated wrong approaches. 

Action: Track why things fail. Failed prototypes aren't wasted – they're eliminated paths to success.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗡𝗼, 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝘀: Every UK manufacturer rejected him. Japan said yes. 

Action: If your market rejects you, test different markets. Geographic arbitrage isn't just for talent – it works for products too.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀: Hoover copied his design. He sued, won, and protected his moat. 

Action: Patent your innovations early. Legal protection isn't overhead, it's a competitive advantage when you're winning.

From 5,126 failures to ₹70,000 crore is proof that persistence through rejection, learning from failure, and protecting innovation build empires.

Akshali's journey began in 2010 when she joined Parag Milk Foods as a management trainee in her father Devendra Shah's company. Despite being the founder's daughter, she started from the bottom, determined to earn her position through merit.

Armed with an MBA from S.P. Jain University in Family Business Management, Akshali quickly demonstrated her business acumen across sales, marketing, and strategic planning.

Today, Parag Milk Foods stands as a ₹2,475 crore dairy powerhouse with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and a nationwide distribution network. The company that began as a modest dairy operation now processes over 2 million liters of milk daily and offers more than 15 product categories.

Until 2010, Camellin and Nataraj ruled school supplies. Same boring colors. Same designs. Zero innovation.

Then Doms asked: Why can't kids have cool stationery they can show off?

They didn't sell pencils. They sold status.

Triangular grip pencils in rainbow colors. Erasers that smelled sweet. Sharpeners built into erasers (Erasener). Polymer leads that wrote smoother than anything else.

Kids begged parents to buy Doms. Word-of-mouth exploded.

Result? Doms captured 30% market share in pencils and hit ₹1,900+ crore revenue.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻: Don't sell products. Sell stories. Products get compared on price. Stories build brands that customers beg for.

In 1847, Louis-François Cartier, 28, took over his master Adolphe Picard's tiny workshop on Rue Montorgueil in Paris. No fancy capital. Just years of apprenticeship and a bold move during France's revolutionary chaos.

In 1859, Empress Eugénie became a client. Imperial protection meant international recognition.

In 1874, son Alfred moved to Rue de la Paix – jewelry district heart.
Then came three grandsons – Louis, Pierre, Jacques. 

They divided the world: Louis took Paris/Europe, Pierre the Americas, Jacques London/Britain.

In 1896, they pioneered platinum in jewelry – lighter, stronger, invisible settings.

In 2012, Ben Francis was 19, delivering pizzas for ₹450/hour. Between shifts, he noticed gym wear was boring, baggy, and expensive.

He bought a sewing machine. His grandmother taught him to sew. He made fitted gym clothes by hand in his bedroom.

Manufacturers rejected him – no sales history, no credibility. So he stitched everything himself. Packed orders. Delivered them personally.

In 2013, he spent every penny – ₹2.5 crore on a BodyPower Expo booth. After the expo, one tracksuit went viral. 

Sales exploded from ₹38,000/day to ₹38 lakh/day. Within 30 minutes, they made ₹25 lakh.

But Ben didn't just sell products. He built community. He sent free gear to small fitness YouTubers: 50,000-100,000 subscribers – when nobody else cared. 

Matt Ogus. Jeff Seid. Chris Lavado. They wore Gymshark. Fans went crazy.

Cost per influencer: ₹2,500. ROI: Mind-blowing.

As those YouTubers grew to millions, they stayed loyal. That grassroots credibility became unbeatable.

By 2015, Gymshark was scaling fast. Ben stepped down as CEO at 23 – he knew his limits. Brought in Steve Hewitt, an industry veteran. Revenue surged.

In August 2020, Gymshark sold 21% to General Atlantic, valuing the company at ₹12,000 crore. Ben, owning 70%, became one of the UK's youngest billionaires at 28.

In 2021, Ben returned as CEO.
