If you’re talking to someone important, DON’T do this. 

Don’t put them ABOVE YOU in the conversation. 

What does this mean? 

- Being too agreeable 
- Being too eager to please 

Example: 

Earlier today I’m listening to a sales call from one of my clients.

When the prospect would say something about his problem, my client would say: 

“Oh yes, absolutely, lots of people deal with that, that’s a great point” 

(Watch the video to hear the tone I used - that’s what matters most)

The words aren’t terrible, but the energy comes across as:

“I want you to like me” 
“I want you to accept me”

And it seems like you’re putting the other person above you.

It’s better to have a more neutral energy. 

And this is true no matter how big or important the other person is.

If you want to have more success with important people, speak to them as if you’re on a level playing field.

After all, you’re both humans, right?

I’ve always HATED this feeling. 

Years ago in a meeting, my boss asks what my thoughts are about one of our processes.

And I have great ideas. 

But…

I ramble and don’t articulate them well. 

When I finish, he stares at me blankly for a couple of seconds, then asks: 

“Anyone else?”

No acknowledgment. 

Then one of my coworkers says something similar. 

But in a more clear, structured way. 

He also sounds more confident.

And everyone was like: 

“Oh, that’s such a great idea, I agree with him, blah blah blah”

Very annoying. 

I’m thinking “I work harder than this guy, and he’s not even very smart, this is nonsense” 

But it was my fault for being a poor communicator. 

And it was my responsibility to be better. 

I decided that communication would never be the thing to hold me back from reaching my potential.

And today as a coach, after working with over 300 1-on-1 clients, 

I never want that to be the thing that holds ANYONE back from reaching their potential.

If you want to speak with confidence, you need to stop ‘sitting in the dark.’ 

It’s costing you more than you think.
  
One of my clients described this perfectly:
 
“Improving my speaking feels like sitting in a pitch-black room.
 
And each week, you’re turning up the dimmer switch.”
 
When we started, his “room” was completely dark.
 
He couldn’t see what was holding him back.
 
But every week we worked together, the light got brighter.
 
And he started spotting the things he’d never noticed before:

— The small body language cues that chipped away at his credibility
— The weak, throwaway words that softened his impact

3 Silent Credibility Killers (that might be keeping you stuck)

One of my clients was stuck in the same Director role for years.

Smart guy. 
(Also a bit of an overthinker)

But he couldn’t figure out why he stopped progressing. 

After reviewing a few of his meetings, the issue was clear:

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝟑 𝐂𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤.

𝟏.) 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲

His explanations weren’t sharp or concise enough.
(Articulation of thoughts)

𝟐.) 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

He was unconsciously sending signals of uncertainty at times. 
(Voice and body language)

𝟑.) 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

He’d sometimes assume understanding without confirming. 
(Listening and paraphrasing)

To the average person, these things probably didn't seem like a huge deal. 

Which is why he had a good job and was well-liked. 

But the difference between *good* and *excellent* is what can set you apart from others. 

And that's how you keep moving up. 

So here's what we did:

→ Clarity: Trained his brain to speak clearly under pressure
→ Confidence: Removed the uncertainty signals 
→ Confirmation: Learned to pause & paraphrase the right way

A couple months after working together, he scored a VP role at another company. 

(Keep in mind, the program itself is 3 months, so I won’t sugarcoat this and say he got a new job overnight)

If you don’t sound confident, people *don’t care* about what you’re saying.

That’s the cost of unclear communication.

I’ve seen smart people waste many hours: 

- Listening to podcasts 
- Watching YouTube videos 
- Going through online courses 

The problem is that consuming content doesn’t mean real-life improvement.

Here’s what actually works.

1.) Training your brain to clearly articulate your thoughts.

2.) Rewiring your confidence on a subconscious level

3.) Getting feedback on the exact situations you’re in.

It’s a question that comes up sometimes. 

Here’s the truth: 

Most people start noticing a difference within 2 weeks.

But these are small changes. 

The bigger transformations happen over a few months.

Now in those first 2 weeks, what do people usually notice?

It depends what we’re working on, but it’s some combo of: 

- Finding it easier to organize and articulate your thoughts 
- Feeling a bit more confident and in control 
- Feeling a bit calmer and more composed
- Less filler words and weak words 

Now keep in mind, these aren’t MASSIVE changes immediately.

There’s no magic pill where you wake up in 2 weeks and suddenly become an elite communicator.

Trust me.

Because I’ve been trying to create one of those magic pills for years.

With that said, you keep noticing changes as you improve each week.

And by the time the program ends, most people are shocked at how much progress they’ve made.

They’re also shocked at how differently people respond to them.

Why?

Not because we did anything crazy.

But because they’ve never had a proper, customized plan to follow before.

It’s like anything else.

How much money do you save without a proper budget or plan for your finances?

A lot of entrepreneurs think they’re “pretty good communicators." BUT...

That belief is exactly what’s holding them back.

Because if you think you sound "good enough"

You stop improving.

You stop reviewing your calls.
You stop asking for feedback.

And slowly, you start losing opportunities you never notice.

“Good enough” leaves money on the table. 

It doesn’t command rooms.
It doesn’t inspire people to follow your lead.

And because I’ve helped over 300 people with these exact things, I’ve seen a lot of mistakes.

Let’s talk about a MASSIVELY common mistake I see all the time.

(I’ve literally reviewed thousands of calls from myself and others, and this happens WAY more than it should)

The mistake:

Not giving enough space for your words to be absorbed. 

This comes across in 2 ways:

1.) Going too fast
2.) Not pausing the right way

If you do this, it’s harder for people to absorb and understand the significance of what you’re saying.

Which means you’re much less likely to get the results you want. 

If you give your words space…

It’s easier for people to understand the value of what you’re saying.

This shift alone could make you a LOT more money. 

And get you a LOT more buy-in on your ideas.

So watch your calls back, watch your meetings back, and make sure you’re not making this mistake.  

P.S. When was the last time you watched a recording of yourself speaking?

Why does no one talk about your State Of Mind when it comes to communication?

The state that you’re in can have a massive impact on the way you communicate. 

Imagine this: 

1.) You’ve just had a massive fight with a family member.

2.) Then you spill coffee on yourself. 

3.) Then you stub your toe. 

4.) And you open your computer to see a snarky email from someone you’re not a fan of. 

How are you going to show up and speak in that meeting? 

What’s your energy going to be like?

Now imagine showing up to that same meeting: 

- Calm
- Composed 
- Confident 
- Centered 

Do you think you would speak differently?

Probably, right?

Here’s a 3 step process to quickly change your state. 

BBV: 

1.) Body - sit up straight, open body position 
2.) Breath - slow, deep, intentional breathing 
3.) Visualize - imagine the situation going well 

Even 30 seconds of this will make a difference. 

Being able to optimize your state of mind quickly...

(before any situation)

Is an extremely underrated part of being a great communicator.

Do you agree?

Do you like to talk? If you do, great. But… 

It doesn’t mean you’re GOOD at it. 

Many of my close friends are extroverts. 

But just because you’re an extrovert… 

It doesn’t mean you’re a good speaker. 

Extroverts may feel comfortable in social situations and enjoy talking more than introverts.

But effective communication is a lot more than being outgoing. 

For example:
 
- Explaining things clearly and concisely
- Telling interesting stories
- Staying calm under pressure 

These are important skills regardless of personality type. 

And if you’re an introvert, you can 100% build these skills. 

And become an exceptional communicator. 

(Even better than your extrovert friends, if you’d like)

Becoming a great speaker requires effort and training. 

Regardless of your personality. 

And whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or anywhere in between…

I’m rooting for you. 

You got this.

I once threw up before a meeting.

Okay, not once. 

Repeatedly.

I struggled a lot with speaking early in my career. 

It made me feel unworthy of success.

But the good news is that it forced me to learn a lot. 

5 lessons I learned from this period:

1.) Confidence is not a fixed thing.  
It’s something you can program into your brain. 

2.) Anxiety grows in avoidance. 
Trying to speak less doesn't solve anything. 

3.) Even 5 minutes of prep helps. 
Writing ideas out before a meeting will make you speak better. 

4.) No one wants you to sound smart. 
They just want you to be clear and simple to understand. 

5.) Time does not heal all things. 
Waiting for things to get better does not work. 

Thankfully, I'm now comfortable speaking in all different types of situations. 

Do I like to do it? 

Well, let's just say I still have to fight the introvert urge to stay home all the time. Haha 

But anything is more enjoyable when you know what you're doing.

A founder I'm working with was UPSET after a board meeting:

“I was trying to sound stronger and ended up rambling.”

He runs a $10M+ company.
Incredibly smart guy.

He does big numbers.
He has the vision.

But when he had to speak in big moments, he still overdid it sometimes. 

- Talked too fast.
- Explained too much.
- Added points that didn’t need to be there.

Not wrong... just too much.

And it made his message harder to follow.

“I could see them checking out,” he told me.

“It felt like I was trying too hard.”

How did we fix this?

We worked on: 

1.) Tight structure
2.) Clear pacing
3.) Cutting 30% of what he was saying

A few weeks later, an investor said to him:

“You seem more sharp lately.

I don't know what you're doing, but it's landing better.”

He was pumped. 

Strong communication isn’t about talking more.

It’s about sounding clear, confident, and credible.

And instead of feeling frustrated or annoyed...

(because you know you could be speaking better)

You get to feel confident and proud of the way you speak.

You can have all the brainpower in the world, but you have to be able to transmit it.”

I’ve done hundreds of calls with prospects over the years, but I heard something RARE yesterday.   

We’re discussing the motivation behind him wanting to become a better communicator, and he says: 

“Well, I like giving gifts to people, I like buying nice things, I like giving people experiences.

And in order to give people the best experience possible, especially my clients, communication is a big part of that.”

He goes on to say:

“I’m a person that values quality, and the way that I speak should reflect that quality at a high level.”

This was interesting because normally people say things like: 

—> “I want to be more confident” 

—> “I want to advance my career and make more money”

—> “I want to grow my business and be able to influence people” 

—> “I want to get into politics so I can deceive people and get large amounts of power only to use it for personal gain and then not do any of the things I promised”

You know, the usual stuff. 

(Just kidding about that last one)

But this was a bit different. 

It was about: 

1.) Delivering an elevated, premium experience every time he speaks.

2.) Holding himself to a higher personal standard.

I thought it was interesting.

It’s hiding in the work you keep avoiding.

That’s why you just have to do the thing.

Here’s proof.

A few years ago, Tom and I wanted to build a community.
So instead of overthinking it, we just built it.
In one weekend.

We decided what we’d offer, who it was for, and what platform we’d use — and we launched.

Was it perfect?
Not even close.

But in the process, we accidentally built a $12,000 MRR community overnight.

We failed plenty.
We learned even more.
And we proved something powerful:

Clarity doesn’t come before action.
It comes from action.

Every business owner I know wants more confidence.
But confidence is just evidence — and evidence comes from doing.

So stop searching for the right way.
Pick a way.
Move.

You’ll either own it… or throw it in the garbage.
But at least you’ll know.

What’s the one thing you’ve been thinking about doing — but haven’t actually done yet?

I can’t stand procrastination.

You know what procrastination really is?
It’s indecision.

You don’t know what to do next — so you do nothing.
You’re either overwhelmed by too many options…
or stuck because you have none.

Here’s how to fix it.

Health. Wealth. Happiness.

That’s your decision filter.
Run everything through those three words:

– Is this healthy?
– Is this wealthy?
– Is this going to make me happy?

If it’s not healthy, don’t do it.
If it’s not wealthy, rethink it.
If it’s not happy, why bother?

That filter removes 90% of your hesitation — in business and in life.

Thinking about signing a new client?
Ask: Will this make me healthy, wealthy, or happy?
If it’s not at least one, it’s a no.

It’s simple.
It’s fast.
And it works.

Because when you can answer those questions clearly, you don’t procrastinate —
you decide.

So the next time you catch yourself overthinking, just ask:
Is it healthy? Is it wealthy? Is it happy?

If not, the answer’s already made.

Did you know business is simple?
It’s just not easy.

Especially when it comes to the work.

Because here’s the truth:
Work expands to the time you allow for it.
That’s Parkinson’s Law.

If you give a project a month, it’ll take a month.
If you give it a weekend, it’ll take a weekend.

Here’s my proof.

Tom and I needed two new landing pages.
So we interviewed designers — three of them.
All great.
All promising.
All with multi-week timelines.

Then I said, “What if I just do it?”

So I blocked out the weekend.
By Monday morning, we had both landing pages live —
funnels, forms, checkout, everything.

Was it perfect? No.
But it was done.

And that’s the point.
The work expanded to the time I gave it — two days, not thirty.

Now, we might refine it later.
But we no longer need someone else to start it.

So here’s the takeaway:
Don’t give your work more time than it deserves.
Most of the time, the timeline is bullshit anyway.

You don’t need another week.
You need a weekend.

The work doesn’t need time.
It needs commitment.

What’s one thing you could finish this weekend if you just decided to?

I can’t stand how complex people make their to-do lists.

Every day — another list.
Every Sunday night — a whole new “weekly plan.”

And then Monday comes… and nothing actually gets done.

Here’s the truth: priority is a singular word.
You can’t have priorities.

You get one.

One thing that matters most.
One thing that actually moves the needle.

Everything else?
Noise.

We love to make things complicated because it feels like progress.
But complexity kills productivity.

If you’ve got ten “priorities,” you have none.

Here’s a line that changed everything for me:

“You can do anything. You just can’t do everything.”

So pick your one thing.
Decide how you’ll get it done.
And then — go do the thing.

That’s it.
That’s the entire system.

Business is simple.
It’s just not easy.

What’s your one true priority this week?

There’s a philosophy we live by:

The work is the goal.

Not the reward.
Not the destination.
The work itself.

That mindset hit me again after reading a post from Alex Hormozi.

He said:

“The man who walks because he loves walking will walk further than the man who loves the destination.”

That line says everything.

Last week, I talked to three people — a politician, a banker, and an architect.
All of them work around business owners.
None of them had heard of Hormozi.

And it made me realize — most people who’ve never built a business don’t understand this truth:
You have to love the work more than the outcome.

Tom and I built Atomic around that philosophy.
We don’t chase the island, the exit, or the fantasy of “one day.”
We love the process — the sessions, the prep, the podcasting, the conversations.

That’s the goal.

Because when you make the work the goal, everything else becomes a byproduct — money, results, fulfillment.

Same with the gym.
If your goal is big muscles, you’ll quit the first week it hurts.
If your goal is going to the gym, the rest takes care of itself.

Business is no different.
The goal isn’t “freedom” or “success.”
The goal is to do the work well — and love it while you’re doing it.

The work is the goal.
Everything else is just proof you stayed the course.
