For 20+ years I’ve sat in boardrooms and war rooms with CEOs, investors, and integrators, aligning talent, culture, and strategy so deals don’t fall apart after the champagne.

Often described as “the Wendy from Billions” for real life CEOs and their seconds‑in‑command, I’m an executive and board advisor, author, and founder of Keri Laine Executive Solutions (KLES).

I wrote The 100‑Year ROI to make one point very clear: relationships and leadership are not the “soft stuff”; they’re the long game of value creation. My Return on Relationships (ROR) framework gives fast‑moving companies a way to grow without torching their best people or breaking their culture.  

Clients tend to call KLES when:  

- A big deal just closed and they realize the leadership team can’t deliver the investment thesis.  
- Succession planning looks great on a slide, but no one is truly ready to step up.  
- The CEO or SiC is brilliant but unconsciously holding in repeat patterns (burnout, blind spots, or team drama they can’t coach themselves out of).

As a keynote speaker, author, podcast host, and frequent partner to industry forums, I’m known for mixing straight talk, data, and a little humor so hard truths feel workable. 

I hold a Master’s in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor’s in Organizational Behavior from Rollins College, along with certifications in executive coaching and change management (yes, there’s real education behind the sarcasm).

There are people you meet for a reason, people who walk with you for a season, and a rare few who sign up for a lifetime.  

Fifteen years ago, this crew and I were just “colleagues.” 

We were focused on programs, deadlines, deliverables… doing the work right in front of us. 

We had no idea that late-night problem‑solving, fierce debates, and shared wins were compounding into something much bigger than a performance review or a promotion.  

We thought we were just building careers. Turns out, we were building capital.  

Not the kind you track in a spreadsheet… the kind I call Return on Relationships. The kind that shows up years later as:  

- A table full of people who still make the effort to show up.  

- Calls you can make when life or leadership gets messy.  

- Doors that swing open because your name is mentioned in rooms you’re not in.

But the reason we met in that chapter… to push each other, to grow up together professionally, to prove what we were capable of… laid the foundation for lifetime friendships we couldn’t yet see.  

That’s the thing about RoR: you almost never recognize the full value in the moment. 

You earn it in real time and you realize it years later….

Boards don’t exist for a single term… they exist to compound value across generations of leaders.

Today with the TMA Florida board, we shifted the conversation from annual goals to a 100-year ROI mindset: 

What does success look like 10 years from now, not just next quarter?  

We mapped every seat as part of a “deal” team… origination, due diligence, execution, and community capital… so representation isn’t about role in the seat - it’s financially relevant to optimize revenue. 

My favorite moment: when the board identified under-leveraged relationships that could immediately translate into sponsorship value, member growth, and co-deal opportunities… 

proof that relationships, diversity, and behaviors directly drive financial outcomes.  

Legacy isn’t what we leave, it’s what keeps working after we’re gone.

Dan Cross  said something that’s been replaying in my mind ever since I heard it.  

He was talking about success, but not in the way we usually do. 

Not as a destination. 

Not as the promotion, the exit, the title on the door. 

He described success as the opposite of “arriving.” 

In his words, the moment you decide you’ve finally arrived is the moment you stop really living.  

Instead, he talked about success as a way of respecting life by constantly asking, “What’s next?”  

Not in a restless, never-satisfied way, but in a grounded, grateful way. 

You honor what you’ve built, you appreciate where you are, and you still stay open to the next evolution of who you’re becoming.  

That simple shift… from “I made it” to “What’s next for me now?”… changes everything. 

It keeps you curious. 

It keeps you humble.

My fingers were covered in butter and snow crab… listening to country music, and watching an Emmy being passed around. 

This was my Saturday night in Steinhatchee, FL. 

Mind blown. 

The Saltwater Cowboys Emmy celebration cracked something open in me.  

I stepped into a world with no care for Amazon delivery, no Instagram posts, no Uber Eats delivery…. just barrels of crab and fish, long days on the water, and kids learning the tides instead of the algorithm. 

They were happy, proud, free, and so deeply rooted in who they are that it felt like visiting another planet.  

When I asked how they bounced back from the hurricane, the answer:

“If Florida could send all the hurricanes here, we’d take them. As a community and environmentally, we’re the best place to get hit… because we know we can handle it.”  

Who says that?!

People whose entire operating system is contribution over comfort and responsibility over recognition.  

Yes, the Emmy moment was beautiful. 

But wasn’t to tell them who they are. 

It was to show the outside world what already exists there. They didn’t need to feel special or seen. They already were.  

I spend my life talking about 100‑year ROI and legacy. And yet the people there who truly live that kind of legacy will never read the book or scroll the post. They’re too busy passing down work ethic, not wealth strategies.  

It made me ask myself… and now I’m asking you:  

If your business was a coastal village that knew it could take the storm, what would you build differently, and who would you be building it for?
