It's been a 20-year rollercoaster journey!

Oh, and in 2023, I took my kids backpacking across Asia and Africa for six months. We survived hunting in Tanzania, paint fights in India and leech attacks in Borneo.

Tungsten Grooves specialise in creating products for high end Hi-Fi systems dedicated to improving the listening experience for Audiophiles.

The first range products on the market are a new class of vibration isolation feet with a patented design that leverages a phenomenon known as particle impact dampening and the amazing properties of Tungsten.

In my role as co-founder I was responsible for the brand identity and positioning of the product ranges, the website along with associated copy, and securing a UK distribution agreement.

The Lighthouse Capital Group was launched in 2017 in response to an ever growing demand for higher GDV projects from investors seeking to diversify with experienced partners and opportunities. It brings developers, architects, planning consultants, high net worth investors together to create profitable property schemes.

Since February I have been advising the founder of the Group on issues such as marketing and branding and the introduction of practices to help manage these complex relationships.

Worked with the business and the team to interpret, plan and prioritise backlog tasks to meet tight deadlines in a rapidly changing regulatory environment.
Role was a combination of Product Owner, Architect, Developer and Third Line Support.
Led team through time of crisis when looked unlikely to meet regulatory deadlines and ensured SLAs and IT policy were met.
Key Achievements:
•	Introduced formal release and testing cycles reducing release related defects to zero
•	Transitioned the team from waterfall delivery to Agile (Scrum) methodology and led sceptical 
        stakeholders through the change
•	Designed hybrid microservice architecture to transform development to be scalable and re-usable
•	Grew team from four in London to nine in London and four in Pune (India) comprising of twelve
        developers and two Technical Analysts (TA)
•	Reduced manual work for both the business and IT leading to spare capacity (Two FTE)
        Trained first/second line support, reducing escalations to at most once a month (previously several
         daily)

Enhanced and supported the CRDIV / EBA liquidity reporting tool and maintained legacy systems, captured and interpreted the PRA reporting requirements. Improved calculations based upon revised business requirements in an agile manner.
Key Achievements:
•	Introduced new platform (application servers and database environment) and environments
•	Migrated existing code base to work with the new environments
•	Created new regulatory submission mechanism saving £50k a year in licensing costs

C# Developer (Contract)

Working within the businsess infrastructure services team to provide cross-platform expertise to tune and stabilise applications.

Applying a complete approach to troubleshooting, considering every element in the stack from coding, database design, server configuration, and storage layout to achieve major leaps forward.

Recent work includes the tuning of the General Ledger resulting in a 48% improvement for processing which lies on the critical path of the overnight batch.

Technologies stacks include Sybase ASE, MS SQL Server, and Solaris.

15+ YEARS OF BUILDING AND IMPROVING TECH TEAM PERFORMANCE

Why is it that so many teams of highly talented individuals fail to deliver to their potential?

How does one create and drive a culture of collaboration aligned with the organisation’s goals?

Where does one begin to turn around performance?

I chose to explore this more deeply in an MBA from the Open University, opening my eyes to motivation theories, team dynamics, the importance of culture and much much more. Over the years I built on this theoretical knowledge with practical experience of managing teams ranging from 4 to 14 engineers, in a mixture of onshore and offshore resourcing models, from banking to e-commerce and outsourced service providers.

Fast forward to 2012, I was captured by the power of timeline therapy in an NLP master practitioner course. I set about bringing this functionality to the web. These were the days where Flash was dying but not quite dead and HTML5 and canvas was immature.

I was introduced to Lean Startup whilst still building and polishing and not talking to users, like many other entrepreneurs in my position I deluded myself into believing that I was following the processes outlined by Eric Ries. This was the trigger for engrossing myself in the lean startup community and exploring UI/UX and product management. Skills and passions that I still hold today.

Some of my achievements I’m proud of include:

➤ Turning around a failing team to deliver an initial MVP release of a liquidity calculation engine in just 10 weeks in order to meet a regulatory deadline and avoid potential fines running into millions of pounds

➤ Building a SaaS based solution for managing veterinary practice performance from capturing the initial requirements through to design and implementation. Delivered over a number of fixed price phases, undertaking the Product Management, UI/UX, backend API and managing a remote outsourced team of front end developers

➤ Leading a team of engineers to build functional IoT proof of concepts for near real time event based remote device monitoring and management with both Azure and AWS. This included a prototype engagement with AWS.

So back to the questions I posed at the beginning. My belief is that this stems from a mixture of empathetic listening, setting out a compelling vision in which your people buy into, transparency of communication, outlining intent and desired outcomes rather than micro-managing and trusting the team whilst giving them cause to trust you.
