I work at the intersection of strategy, foresight, and transformation, helping boards and senior leaders navigate the complexity of AI, digital disruption, and systemic change. My focus is on turning emerging technologies into strategic clarity—equipping decision-makers to act with confidence at the edge of disruption.

As Principal at The Digital Explorer, I advise global brands on digital disruption, innovation, and board-level enablement. I also serve as Co-Founder and Managing Partner for EMEA at Access CX, where we help organisations design and operationalise world-class customer experiences through strategy, technology, and transformation.

Over the past 17 years, I have advised boards and executive teams across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean. My roles include Managing Director at Berkeley Research Group and directors at Grant Thornton UK LLP and Navigant Consulting. Before my advisory career, I held CEO and executive leadership roles in retail banking, mortgages, and investment management—firsthand experience that continues to shape my work on transformation challenges.

I serve as Senator for Ireland at the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF), affiliated with the G20’s Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, and as a board member of the WBAF Global Science, Technology & Innovation Committee. I also co-founded the Digital Transformation Lab at Cork University Business School (UCC), a think tank focused on digital transformation. In executive education, I am a faculty member at the Institute of Bankers in Ireland, delivering programmes on digital disruption in financial services and fintech.

Currently a PhD candidate researching board and executive understanding of digital disruption, I hold dual MBAs in Banking and General Management. Inflation has eased from recent peaks, yet price levels remain high, continuing to erode real incomes and disproportionately burden low-income households, women, and vulnerable populations. Developing economies face particular strain from limited fiscal space, declining official development assistance, and rising climate-related shocks, leaving progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals ( #SDGs) uneven and off track.

Geopolitical fragmentation, #trade tensions, and strategic rivalries are reshaping global trade and investment patterns. While global trade proved resilient in 2025, momentum is expected to soften as tariff effects persist and uncertainty weighs on confidence. Investment remains muted worldwide, with gains concentrated in a few advanced economies, particularly in artificial intelligence (#AI) and clean #energy, exacerbating cross-country divergences. Competition for critical #minerals, rising #military expenditure, and #climate pressures further intensify economic and social vulnerabilities.

Regionally, growth prospects diverge. Africa is projected to see modest growth improvements, but elevated debt, inflation, and limited diversification continue to constrain development. Least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small island developing States remain especially exposed to external shocks.
Other outlook reports published by the International Monetary Fund, The World Bank, European Central Bank, and other major financial institutions are modestly more optimistic but converge on elevated #risk. The IMF projects global growth around 3.2–3.3%, supported by easing inflation and AI-driven investment, yet warns of fragmentation and debt vulnerabilities. The World Bank emphasizes persistent divergence, noting that growth in developing economies remains insufficient to accelerate poverty reduction. The European Central Bank (ECB) foresees weak but stabilizing growth in the euro area, constrained by structural competitiveness challenges despite gradual monetary easing. J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs anticipate resilient—but uneven—growth, highlighting geopolitical risk, trade tensions, and fiscal constraints as dominant downside factors.

In my view, their ultra-rapid adoption reflects the growing power of #lifesciences and #pharmaceutical #industry in shaping global society. This prominence also has profound societal and ethical implications.
The rise of these innovative pharma compounds exposes a stark global paradox. Today, over 150 out of 195 countries continue to grapple with poverty, food insecurity, or malnutrition, while hundreds of millions of people face chronic hunger. In parallel, affluent societies increasingly deploy advanced pharmaceuticals to address excess consumption and metabolic disease.
This contrast raises urgent ethical questions about global equity, access, and priorities. Weight-loss therapies—projected to generate $100–150 billion annually by 2030—symbolize both scientific progress and systemic imbalance. As the health care ecosystem pivots toward prevention, wellness, and longevity, as outlined by the World Health Organization's strategic roadmap and aligned with the United Nations #SDG3 indicators, the challenge is not only to innovate but also to ensure that scientific advancement aligns with #global #equitable #health. 
Healthcare diplomacy must confront this paradox by aligning biomedical innovation with global #equity. It should bridge excess and scarcity, ensuring that advances in longevity and wellness coexist with commitments to food security, access to care, and the ethical distribution of health resources worldwide.

The recent article published in Nature by Žiga Avsec and colleagues at Google DeepMind underscores the impact that the latest #genomics advances have on the #lifesciences ecosystem.

Genetic variation plays a fundamental role in shaping biological processes and contributes significantly to disease susceptibility. However, accurately characterizing the functional consequences of #DNA sequence variation remains a major scientific challenge, particularly because approximately 98% of human genetic variants occur in non-coding regions of the genome. These regions, while not translated into proteins, exert critical regulatory control over gene expression, chromatin structure, and cellular function.

Recent advances in deep-learning–based genomics have demonstrated substantial promise in addressing this challenge, yet most existing models are constrained by an inherent trade-off between the length of input DNA sequence they can process and the resolution of their predictions. In this manuscript, the authors introduce how Alphagenome Inc, a unified deep-learning model, can overcome these limitations. It can analyze DNA sequences spanning up to one million base pairs and deliver high-resolution predictions across a broad spectrum of genomic features.

The authors suggest that AlphaGenome represents a significant step toward systematically interpreting non-coding variation, with potential applications in elucidating the genetic basis of disease, informing synthetic DNA design, and advancing fundamental understanding of genome regulation

In my opinion, this article illustrates that we are at a critical inflection point for #precisionhealth and #personalizedmedicine, as the ability to accurately decode regulatory genomic variation at scale enables more individualized, predictive, and preventive approaches to disease management. 

However, the deployment of such powerful genomic #AI systems also introduces profound accountability imperatives. The scale, sensitivity, and longitudinal value of genomic data demand robust #data #governance frameworks, advanced #cyber-#ethics safeguards, and #privacy-preserving architectures by design.  

Given the sensitivity and societal impact of genomic data, equitable access must also be embedded from inception. In line with the DUBAI FUTURE FOUNDATION’s foresight-driven governance approach, #quantum-resilient security architectures are essential to safeguard genomic infrastructures against future cryptographic threats and to sustain public #trust in innovative #healthcare #ecosystems.

The Global Investment Trends Monitor, No. 50 published by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)  reports that global foreign direct investment (#FDI) increased by an estimated 14 percent in 2025 to approximately USD 1.6 trillion. 

While this headline growth suggests a rebound after two subdued years, the report emphasizes that the recovery remains structurally weak and uneven. 

A substantial share of the increase reflects financial flows routed through #global financial centres, rather than new productive investment. When these conduit flows are excluded, underlying FDI growth is estimated at only around 5 percent, highlighting persistent investor caution.

Key indicators of long-term #investment confidence continued to deteriorate. The value of cross-border mergers and acquisitions declined, international project #finance fell for a fourth consecutive year, and the number of greenfield investment announcements dropped, pointing to reduced momentum in the creation of new productive capacity. These trends signal that global investment remains constrained by heightened uncertainty, tighter financing conditions, and geopolitical fragmentation.

The report identifies deepening geographic disparities in investment flows. 

FDI to developed economies rose sharply—by more than 40 percent— driven largely by Europe and major financial hubs. In contrast, FDI to developing economies declined modestly, and approximately three-quarters of least developed countries experienced stagnant or falling inflows, reinforcing long-standing structural inequities in access to international capital.

Sectorally, investment is becoming increasingly concentrated in capital-intensive, #technology-driven activities, particularly #datacentres and #semiconductor manufacturing, reflecting accelerating demand for #digital #infrastructure and #artificialintelligence capabilities. Meanwhile, investment in infrastructure and renewable #energy weakened further, raising concerns for countries that rely heavily on foreign capital to finance climate mitigation, energy transition, and sustainable development objectives. Although domestic investment partially offset this decline in some markets, it did not fully compensate for reduced foreign participation.

Looking ahead, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development projects a highly uncertain outlook for 2026. While modest growth in FDI is possible if financing conditions ease, persistent geopolitical tensions, policy uncertainty, and economic fragmentation continue to pose significant risks to inclusive, development-oriented investment.
