$BERA circulating supply will nearly 2x in a single day.

Majority of tokens?

They'll be going to "Initial Core Contributors" (Team) alongside investors and community initiatives.

Looking at the allocations, you see a significant slice for both team and investors, with a small sliver for "Community Initiatives".

TVL on the chain has gone from it's height of $3.3B in March to a drop of about 90% and now sitting at $275MM.

The question you should always answer to get volume:

Why should someone buy this token today and not tomorrow?

For $BERA, the only reason is if you want to be exit liquidity for the team and investors in about two months.

Everyone else?

Better off picking any random memecoin and dumping some money in 😂

At least there's a chance to rise in price.

With $BERA, the only probability I see is a continued decline.

Why would anyone bid up the price only to be dumped on by insiders through a massive inflationary event?

Better question: Who is the smooth brain that designed these tokenomics?

Wait until mid-January and you'll find some narratives/FUD on X around these unlocks...

...as if they haven't been there since the beginning when I made my video this past February when their tokenomics were released!

You're buying into a chain founded by a guy who wears a bear mask and calls himself "Smokey the Bera".

Let's not expect to have a breakout win 😂

Back from social media detox and looking forward to 2026!

For me, end of year is a time of reflection...

– What worked last year?
– What didn't work?

– Where did I spend my time?
– Did this help me reach my goals?

– What did I do that was smart?
– What did I do that was stupid?

The New Year isn't about making a list of a bunch of resolutions I won't keep. 

It's about uncluttering my mind, stepping back, then looking objectively at everything I'm doing.

We are at the starting point of tokenization and I expect 2026 to be an amazing year for web3.

BTC price? Who knows 😂

But, I've never been here because of the Bitcoin price.

After all, I started consulting when BTC was $15K in 2022 after the Luna crash. 

I am here to build, not chase a Bitcoin price.

Do buybacks actually do anything?

In today's video, I explore:
– What buybacks are really for
– Effect on buyer/holder psychology
– What to measure buybacks against
– How to decide whether or not to do them

Personally, I think buybacks are seen for what they are at the surface level.

A team is buying its token back - does it really do anything?

I'm not sure you can measure through a quantifiable metric like this.

Buybacks are more about psychology and alignment instead of actually supporting the price.

Watching today's video, you'll learn why I believe that, what I measure (simple metric) and how to decide whether or not to do them.

Regardless of buyback noise, one must always think in resources.

For example, a new project that has little revenue should not be dumping money into buybacks. 

It's probably smarter at that point to conserve resources (cash).

Conversely, if we're giving tokens as a reward and they are meaningful, then it's smarter to back those rewards with a buyback in case they sell.

Three scenarios:

Scenario 1: Tokens emitted, sent to user, they sell (negative)

Scenario 2: Tokens bought on DEX, sent to user, they sell (neutral)

Scenario 3: Tokens bought on DEX, sent to user, they hold (positive)

In scenario 1 where we emit blind rewards backed by no value, we erode liquidity and create selling pressure.

In the other scenarios, if tokens are sold they were originally backed with value when distributed.

In the video, I note $1MM-$5MM buybacks per day in $HYPE.

These are tokens backed by real value.

Imagine a scenario where Hyperliquid used these tokens to gamify the platform.

Each week you get entries into the competition based on your PnL.

That's $7MM-$35MM in prizes each week at this buybacks rate. 

$1MM x 7 days or $5MM x 7 days (buybacks per day per DefiLlama)

How might such a reward attract even more trading activity, boosting fees (and potential buybacks jackpot)?

Imagine a $100MM weekly jackpot headline if fees simply 3-5x'd from what is happening now. 

If those tokens that are won weekly are sold?

They were backed by that initial buyback liquidity.

So, when I consider a buyback I think it's important to consider what we're doing with these tokens and how we're using them to create value.

Buying back is actually backing your token with real value.

Distributing these tokens means you're transferring real value vs empty value (key point).

If potential buybacks are just $25,000 in a given month because a platform just started and is finding PMF, it's probably better to shift that into product/marketing.

If those tokens just sit in a treasury somewhere? 

That's funding locked inside a token that could have been used more beneficially to grow.

As I said: The purpose and benefits behind buybacks should always be considered.
