I know it's a goofy thing to say...
But LinkedIn changed my life. 

I ignored the platform through my 12 years as a practicing attorney. 

It was only after I left the practice in late 2021 that I started paying more attention to the platform. 

Watching what folks like Darren McKee and Robb Gilbear were doing, I realized LinkedIn wasn't what I thought it was...

The most boring social media network on the planet. 
The world's biggest online bulletin board. 
The place to stash my digital resume. 

I started to see LinkedIn as a place to: 
• express myself genuinely 
• meet interesting people 
• create opportunities. 

I didn't have my own business then. That came later. 

What set me on that trajectory was recognizing that I'd learned LinkedIn the wrong way. 

And if I approached this platform differently, I could get different results. 

LinkedIn empowered me to build CONTENDER, a business that employs 6 full-time people. 
We're going to break 7 figures in revenue this year. 
And we're just getting warmed up.

Has LinkedIn changed your life (yet)?

There has never been a better time to start posting on LinkedIn than right now. 

If that strikes you as the self-serving talk of a guy who sells LinkedIn stuff, fair enough. 

But I truly believe that. 
Here’s why. 

People love lamenting:
• How reach has dropped. 
• How terrible the algorithm is.
• How hard it is to get engagement. 

They’re almost always saying some version of—

My posts are not getting enough attention. 

That’s understandable. Indeed, organic reach appears down in a ton of circumstances. 

But organic reach is not actually the point. 

Nobody pays the rent with organic reach. 
Nobody buys a truck with likes and comments. 
Nobody covers their kids’ tuition with impressions. 

We all want Linky to shower us with organic reach. 
But reach is not the real goal. 

What we’re really after out here…

Is opportunities. 

New clients. 
The next hire. 
More customers. 
The next job offer.
More awareness that you’re the go-to expert in your domain and market. 

If I offered you 1 million impressions or 1 new client, which are you taking? 

I’m taking the client every time. 

And I don’t actually NEED more impressions to land more clients. 

What I can use is MORE people starting to pay attention to LinkedIn for the fist time. 

The more people who do that, the harder it might be to get organic reach. 

But that’s fine. Because it also means there are more people plugged into the network. 

Each of those people is another source of potential opportunities. 

This is why I’m not worried about the drop in reach. 
It’s corresponding with the LinkedIn network getting stronger. 

And if you’re consistently depositing your energy into this network, you’re building up your social capital here. 

That social capital has never been more valuable than it is today. 
And I’ll bet it all that social capital here will be more valuable a year from now than it is today.

That’s why I’ve never been as bullish on LinkedIn as I am right now.

A new client has seen 128,485 impressions from her first 4 posts. My favorite part about this—

December 2025 my husband died of a heart attack. 

October 2023 my dad died of Glioblastoma 

June 2015 my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 

April 2012 my son was diagnosed with celiac

July 2012 my husband found out he had spinal stenosis after years of back issues 

April 2011 my mom died of lung cancer 

April 2011 I had my 2nd miscarriage 

Not to mention many health issues my husband had including numerous surgeries 

I’ve spent my entire career in healthcare tech and healthcare 

Healthcare is personal to me. I’ve seen the effects of good and bad care, insurance and systems and tools.

I didn’t choose a career in healthcare, it just happened. 

But just a quick look at this list shows why I’ve stayed. 

Sometimes passion for industries isn’t a decision but a result of life experience. 

Be a good human 

PS: a reminder too that life is HARD and we are built for hard things

I have been debating if posting on LinkedIn is worth it anymore. 

I have posted on LinkedIn every single day since April of 2020 except when my husband died in December I took a break. 

I comment daily because I want to, not because I have to. 

I’ve seen the intro of the green banner.  The people who love and hate it.

I’ve seen AI comments be introduced, and contributions to AI articles that have weird badges given. 

I’ve gotten two jobs and 5 job offers as a result of my posts on LinkedIn. 

I’ve raised $6500 for holiday presents for kids whose parents have been laid off with the help of this amazing community.

I’ve started a coaching business for career and life coaching and thus far have had 10 amazing clients and re-launching soon. 

I have given away over 30 coffees, 100+ hours of free coaching, and contributed over $1000 of my own money to help people 

And in return LinkedIn has been a place for me to grow, learn, connect, network and share my passion for writing and building a community. 

But like anything in life there comes a time when you wonder if the efforts are worth the output and if you can use your (for me even more limited) time now in other ways.

This isn’t a goodbye post - as I’ve always said LinkedIn isn’t an airport you don’t need to announce your arrivals and departures 

But it is me talking out loud wondering what other platforms people use to connect, build and share thoughts.

My purpose on LinkedIn has always been numerous - to help, to share my own life experiences at work and life, to support working moms and to cheer on good humans.

Those goals don’t change, but maybe the platform does - on or offline.

What are your thoughts?

If you’re a CEO you SHOULDN’T expect your employees to be working as much as you.  

Period. 



The CEO at a former company I worked at, used to tell me he was frustrated no one worked as hard as him. 

He complained that he worked every weekend (and he sent us all emails all weekend too).

He worked late at night (and called often when I was at 8pm baseball games, in mom mode).

He talked about how he started work at 5am every day (and often made his leaders get on calls at 6:30am).

He couldn’t understand why “these younger generations” didn’t have the same work ethic.

What he failed to realize is “younger people” aren’t lazy. 

They aren’t less dedicated. 

They aren’t different than any generation before them. 

They simply know what’s important to them, as every generation does. 

He is the leader of the company and likely makes far more money than anyone else. 

You can’t expect someone in an entry level role to have the same responsibilities and work hours as someone making 350k+.

We all should take personal pride in our work 

We should give it our best, whatever that is day to day. 

We should work hard, there’s no substitution for it 

But how you choose to work as an executive should NOT be how you expect your team to work. 

Hustle away, just don’t create hustle culture for others. 

Be a good human. Lead well.

Be honest and realistic about your job search. 

I’m open to doing anything isn’t going to work in this job market. 

It may be true. You may be a jill of all trades. You may be interested in doing anything and everything. 

But there are thousands of ridiculously qualified people looking for roles right now.

Companies can be picky and they can be resolute in what they want. 

So you need to be, too.

It’s scary to narrow and niche down too much.  I was afraid I would miss out on opportunties. 

But the truth is, you have skills and jobs you’ve done. You have a skill set for a specific group of jobs 

That’s where the focus should be. 

And in time you can grow that as the job market changes and seek out new roles.

I’ll do anything isn’t the answer. 🤷‍♀️

Strong personal statement. Confidence. And skills to back it up
