I have a rule for identifying companies that actually retain talent.

If they mention "ping pong tables" or "free beer" in the first 5 minutes, run away.

The companies with the highest retention rates usually have the most boring office perks.

Why?

Because they figured out the secret.

Senior engineers do not want a pizza party.

They want money.
They want autonomy.
They want a ci/cd pipeline that doesn't break every Tuesday.

The best retention strategy is simply leaving your smart people alone to do the work you hired them to do.

Everything else is just a distraction from a toxic salary band.
