I worked on media monitoring on a daily basis and writing monthly news reports for clients

I spent most of the time researching the ESG performance of Australian companies in the ASX 300 across all sectors by analysing annual reports, assessing news articles and NGO reports. This covered all areas of ESG research including environmental management, bribery and corruption, board governance, stakeholder relations and health and safety performance

I also updated the EIRIS database and worked with EIRIS staff in London on changes made to company profiles. CAER is a research partner of EIRIS and so provides the UK office with research on Australian companies.

I also spent time writing ESG assessments for four portfolio managers at Australian Ethical Investment (AEI), which has A$800m AUM. AEI is an asset manager and its main product is pension funds, with investments chosen against ESG criteria. This work involved positive and negative screening in accordance with the AEI ethical charter and concentrated on renewable energy, energy efficiency, healthcare and technology companies. Discussions with portfolio managers occurred when a change of investment grade was recommended 

I engaged with companies on their ESG performance on behalf of AEI and other clients. On one occasion this involved having a discussion with a Vice President of a top American chemical company

• I wanted to help a florist with SEO
• Her competitor had given flowers to a photographer and got a backlink in return 
• This helped them rank higher in Google, winning more business
• So partner with websites from your industry

• When I was starting No CS Degree, I did a search for "newsletters for developers"
• I asked one website, RunCloud, if they could include No CS Degree
• They added me to the list, giving me a free backlink

Google search results for "Newsletters for developers" with RunCloud in 2nd position with a link to No CS Degree

I'm moving the back catalogue of High Signal newsletter issues over to the website now

Hopefully this gets me more subscribers and it just makes sense to have all my best content on my own domain

A few years ago I tried doing a "Reverse Black Friday" where I put prices UP instead of down. 

No-one cared. Maybe got 1 or 2 likes but made no money. 

Black Friday is baked into the internet now - 99% of people are cool with it 

Fighting it is a waste of time 

Just do a Black Friday sale like everyone else

I just signed up for an exciting looking politics newsletter

Then I got a message it was shutting down

The writer had tried the classic paywall strategy and not enough people were buying so he's shut it down

Which is a shame

If he had used ads, I bet he could have kept it going.
