If you’ve been in corporate, you might’ve known at least one person who was all about…

Meetings. Slack pings. Tiny decisions. Constant motion.

At first, you thought, they’re so hardworking..

True signs of a leader leading from the front!

But here’s the catch…

This is usually a noise.

Real importance shows up different.

It is not more work, but few tasks with better systems.

Even fewer approvals and clearer ownership.

The clients for whom we’ve gotten the best results were often those who’re indifferent to how we achieved them.

They didn’t micromanage. 

Or had a panic attack if we didn’t respond to them at 5:56 pm on Saturday evening.

These people won because they weren’t in every operation.

Instead they removed themselves from them.

Yesterday I saw this post, and have been continuously thinking about how this is wrong on so many levels.

Imagine you're walking down the street and see this

How would you respond to it psychologically?

- “Wow, what is that??!”
- “Ohh that’s utter BS…” 

You just wasted my 10 seconds for nothing. 

As a marketer, you don’t gain attention for the sake of attention.

If awareness or sales is your destination.
Then attention is your vehicle.

You don’t travel from one place to another without a goal..

This ad didn’t give me any context.
This didn’t raise my awareness either.

But rather a failed attempt to be funny and creative.

As a marketer, I googled about IndiGo.

The prime headlines were…

”IndiGo in crisis”
”IndiGo cancels 500 flights today”
”How India’s largest airline sent air travel into chaos”

While they should’ve taken that as a starting point.

”Thank you for trusting us as your loyal travel partner. Nothing makes us prouder than delivering you timely flights, flying you comfortably from home to office, vacation, and loved ones. We sincerely apologise for any delays; we hope to make it up to you soon.” 

There can always be some reason to connect or resonate with your audience, even in a bad situation; especially in a bad situation. 

How hard was this supposed to be?

Last week I stayed at a guest house in Islamabad.

One portion of someone's residence turned into a guesthouse, and I happened to be their very first customer.

I had back-to-back meetings lined up, so I just dropped my luggage while the inDrive waited outside.

Came back late that night.

The host was incredibly accommodating... almost too much.

Making sure I was comfortable to the point where it felt a bit forced.

Made me suspicious for a second, but I shrugged it off.

Later that same night, I was reviewing my team's outreach for a client.

70 cold messages sent out.

4 responses.

Zero bookings.

I was terrified because we're going down, not up.

So I shut my laptop, pushed it aside, and just stared into space.

That's when a thought crossed my mind...

Why wouldn't this guest house need my services?

It hit me like a flash of insight.

I spent the next 40 minutes researching every guest house in the area.

Pulled their top reviews, their bad reviews.

Compared everything to this place's listing.

Added my recommendations with implementation notes.

Threw it into GPT to clean it up in my style.

In less than an hour, I had a complete marketing document for this potential lead... where I was literally sleeping.

Next morning I had to leave early again, so I sent him the document with a voice note.

That evening he texted: "We need to talk tonight."

So we did, that too over a cup of tea & biscuits.

He said he's never read anything more detailed than what I sent him.

As an 40 y.o software engineer, these marketing insights were completely new to him.

I didn't close him as a client because I couldn't take on an entire new niche at the time.

But here's the thing...

Next time when he thinks of hiring marketing services, or someone in his circle asks for a recommendation, who's he going to think of?

Me, or those cold DMs flooding his LinkedIn daily?

Think about it... 

I unknowingly gave him so much value that he wouldn't even consider anyone else.

While my mass- cold outreach failed the same day.

And sometimes, the best opportunities aren't the ones you chase... they're the ones sitting right in front of you.

If you're able to give immense value, they'd addicted to you. 

At this point, you won't need crazy selling tricks or gimmicks.

I don't talk about e-commerce much, but I met a founder last week who's pulling 20 pieces of content per week. Still going nowhere.

She just started her thing selling resin art on Instagram.

When she showed me her social media, it was exactly what you'd expect...

A bunch of different angle photos of the same product with GPT-written captions.

60 posts.

80 followers.

More than half of them were her friends.

So I told her straight up, she could get better conversions if she...

- Feature local micro-influencers under 2k followers.

They'll create UGC for free in exchange for a sample of your product.

Get 5-10 of them and turn that into reels.

Here's what happens next:

- People already know these influencers
- They share it to their own audience.

More visibility, more trust, more sales.

Efficient.

But many people get it wrong when they see.. 

Gary V produces 20 pieces of content per day.
Alex Hormozi cranks out 40 pieces per day.

But what they don't get is...

Volume doesn't work the same way at the bottom as it works at the top.

These peeeps got massive distribution already built in.

You don't.

So stop trying to out-volume people who have armies working for them.

Stay efficient.

Focus on what actually moves the needle, not what looks busy.

Because at the end of the day, business is nothing more than problem-solving.

And her problem wasn't content volume.

It was distribution and trust.

Fix that first, then scale.

That's the game.

In Pakistan, most brands are just mirrors of each other.

When I work on a marketing campaign, I'm not looking at what competitors are doing..

I'm studying market sophistication.

Finding the winning angles no one else is using yet.

Building messaging around what the customer actually wants, not what some other brand posted last week.

Most think marketing is just copying whoever's trending right now.

They see a competitor's ad perform well and go "let's do that too."

Zero clue why it actually worked.

Zero insight into their own customer's mind.

The result?

Everyone sounds identical. 
Everyone struggles to stand out. 
Everyone fights over the same shrinking piece of the pie.

You want to dominate your market?

Stop stalking your competitor's feed.

Start understanding your customer's real problems.

That's where the money is.

The heaviest weight in your business is often the low-energy people and tasks

Business success is a game of energy.

It can either build you or drain you.

A founder working on marketing, ads, social media, client relations, and strategy is not a capable leader but an occupied labourer.

Energy is a finite resource.

It never impresses me when founders flaunt on social media about wearing multiple hats and encouraging their teams to follow through…

You’re just being fancy at being mediocre.

The $2,000 you saved on marketing didn’t help with growth when, in the middle of the day, you’re googling the right dimensions for the newsletter images.

For our clients, we never let them touch any creative.
