Two early directions for Moveforth's visual identity. 
Here's what didn't work and why.

Direction one: Built for Momentum
Arrow lines logo. Fire gradient in red, orange, yellow. Directional line patterns visualizing speed and energy.

Red commands attention. But in practice, it can be overpowering.

When we mocked up client work, the brand competed with the deliverables. The red pulled focus and the work became secondary.

Direction two: Not just a brand. A system.
Custom "M" logo made of arrows. Bold orange and black with pink, green and blue secondary colors. Lines and System UI visuals.

This gave us what direction one couldn't:
⏩ A palette that supports client work, not compete with it
⏩ Visual versatility across brand domains and systems
⏩ Secondary colors for our offerings and personal brands. (pink for Airen, green for me. Colors we've used long before Moveforth existed.)

This is why we chose direction two and evolved it into what you see now.

I just attended a Reed Words workshop and one thing stuck with me:

"What amazes me is how often the verbal side gets forgotten by brands and sometimes by agencies as well."

Think about it:

⏩ "I'm loving it" without the arches — still McDonald's
⏩ "Because you're worth it" — L'Oreal, instantly

Words can be just as distinctive as a logo.

Visual identity is how your audience sees your brand.
Verbal identity is how they feel it.

You need both. Start with both. Or you'll end up with a beautiful brand that has nothing to say.

Just got back from Vietnam — Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Sapa, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh.

My top 3 highlights:
⭐️ Hanoi's busy crossroads (casually eating dinner on the street)
⭐️ Hoi An's warm people and ancient town
⭐️ Sapa's highest peak of Indochina and cold weather

It was the kind of trip I used to think I couldn't afford to take.

A year ago, I couldn't have.

Our exact process for naming Moveforth (try this for your brand)

Airen and I were in a cafe, laptop open, a brand name custom GPT loaded with our brand strategy.

We started with the usual: descriptive, invented, compound names but nothing worked.
So we fed the GPT our hobbies: freediving, coffee, hiking, books. Just throwing ideas out.

"Arise" appeared and we loved the concept, so we explored variations:
Riseform, Tenfold, Dare To

Airen said Riseform sounded like a virus 😅

Then Moveforth came up.
To go forward. To proceed onward.

So I did something I hadn't done in months: I picked up a book.

Finally continuing Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Pour-over coffee in hand, new Indonesian beans.

There's something about reading that I love — even though I only really started last year.

⏩ It's slow and relaxing. Rest and learning at the same time
⏩ Ideas sit longer because you earned them slowly
⏩ Away from notifications and digital noise

I forgot how much I missed this.

A non-designer on our client's team spent hours creating webinar assets.
3 different sizes. Multiple languages. All done manually.

When I found out, I asked: "Why not use a system that bulk-creates these in minutes?"

The answer? They didn't have one.
Now? Upload an Excel file with the details, hit create, and get 15 assets ready to go.

The most underrated skill in branding: Systems thinking.💡

Most people think branding is about designing one beautiful asset.
But the real work? Designing how the brand works across everything.

Here's what I keep seeing:
⏩ Founder gets a logo and PDF guidelines — looks great
⏩ 2 months later, team can't apply it consistently

But here's what I believe:
