Also led funding rounds and managed portfolio for the AI for Accessibility program, a $25M program to further accessibility and AI innovation. Worked on the driver intelligence team to extract meaningful and actionable data from free-form driver comments. Used traditional classification techniques, clustering algorithms, topic modelling algorithms and deep learning models (CNNs) to classify comments into concepts (categories), and identify trending topic clusters. Implemented a dashboard that shows concept distributions over a period of time and allows the user to filter by various attributes to understand trends better.

Software engineering intern

Worked on the Cortana team, and implemented a machine learning model that determines the semantic intent of commitments made by users in their emails with nearly 80% precision. This model was used to get interesting and important data for the team that helped them understand users and prioritize features. Also implemented experiences leveraging intent extraction, such as identifying the commitments as urgent. Finally, helped implement notifications for commitments. this feature was shipped in February 2017. 

Besides the internship project, participated in the company's annual hackathon, and worked on two projects. The first project uses Microsoft HoloLens and state-of-the-art computer vision research to empower blind users by helping them navigate independently, identify objects, people and scenes etc. This project was the most awarded project, receiving eight awards including the most popular project worldwide. The second project uses the bot framework and EWS APIs to automate common employee tasks, such as setting autoresponders and cancelling meetings when out of office etc.

Software Engineering Intern

Designed and implemented UIAFeedback, a Windows scheduled task that starts every time a user logs on and runs in the background, monitoring accessibility issues. This tool identifies the element with current focus, examines the properties required by Microsoft’s UIA standards and screen reader Narrator, and flags the element if any of the properties are missing. Implemented in C++ using UI Automation framework, Narrator components and Microsoft telemetry, the tool was able to correctly identify some interesting unreported accessibility bugs and Narrator product issues. This tool is now being used for accessibility evaluation.

Besides the internship project, participated in the company hackathon Oneweek, and our project Deep Vision that uses computer vision to help blind people navigate and identify real-world objects was recognized as the best project in the Tech for Social Good category. This project was later announced at Build 2016 by the CEO as the Seeing AI project. Also participated in the Cortana Design Sprint for inclusive design as a subject matter expert.

Entrepreneur, AI for good | Stanford CS

I'm an entrepreneur and engineering and product leader interested in novel applications of technology for social good, and my experience includes product and AI engineering at Microsoft (Cortana language understanding and Accessibility Innovation), Uber and IBM Research. Before this, I graduated from Stanford with bachelors and masters in Computer Science focusing on AI and human computer interaction. I have also worked on several tech-powered entrepreneurial ventures over the years to empower people with disabilities, positively impacting over 12,000 people with disabilities and working with 20+ corporates and universities.

In recognition of my technical skills and social initiatives, I've been honored with several national and international awards and scholarship including the Queen's Young Leaders Award 2016 presented by Her Majesty the Queen (60 young leaders from across 53 commonwealth countries), UN Young Leaders 2018 from the United Nation's Secretary General's Envoy on Youth (17 young leaders from around the world),  National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities 2018 from the Govt. of India (India's highest presidential honor for the empowerment of people with disabilities) among others.

I'm currently working on projects focused on leveraging the latest advancements in large language and action models to enhance digital access for the underrepresented, and imagine new interaction paradigms.
