In 2018, I made a big decision. After 16 + years in financial planning, I decided it was time for a change - not because I had the next big thing lined up, but because I felt a deeper calling. 

I wanted to create something that was truly mine, something that could make a real difference. 

So, I sold my financial planning business and took a leap into the unknown.

My journey began with a podcast. The goal? To inspire and educate, to touch lives in a meaningful way. It was a new chapter, one that brought me to LinkedIn to share my thoughts and connect with others. Little did I know, a simple video post in April 2018 would turn everything upside down.

I stood in the Chanel boutique.
Then walked out empty handed.

A few years ago, I set a goal to buy a luxury bag.
It was a bag I “thought” I wanted.

I surprised myself.
I was instantly put off.

You would think it was the price, but it wasn’t.

It was the long queue outside the boutique.
The identical bag on every other shoulder.
The sales associate’s rehearsed pitch about “timeless investment.”
It was so familiar that it no longer looked or felt valuable to me.

The moment I saw how many wanted it,
I instantly didn’t.

And that’s exactly how I operate on LinkedIn.

If everyone has the formula → I don’t want it.
If everyone posts a certain way → I don’t want it.
If everyone talks about the same things → I don’t want it.

I watch others post what works:
“I made $X in Y months”
“The 5-step framework that...”
“Use this hook to instantly go viral”

And yes, it works.
Of course it works.
That’s why everyone does it.

I COULD talk about the money I’ve made.
But I’d rather talk about my values and vision.

I COULD share the hooks that go viral.
But I’d rather post what emotionally draws people in.

I COULD share the proven playbook.
But I’d rather write from a place that actually matters.

To me, when everyone carries the same bag,
it stops being special.
When everyone uses the same strategy,
it stops being strategic.

Maybe this is a flaw in me in others’ eyes.
This stubborn refusal to post what clearly works.

But to me?
This is my differentiator.

It’s about being yourself even when being someone else would be easier.
Even when the formula is right there… proven, profitable.

Some things lose their value when too many people want them,
but your voice is not one of them.

I can’t afford to be like everyone else.

And that’s the same reason I write the way I write.
Show up the way I show up.
Build the way I build.

Founder of Podcutz | Helping Production Companies Triple Revenue | Turning Podcasts into Viral Content

I walked away from a 5-figure business deal for the sake of my faith.


Back in the early days of Podcutz, the biggest challenge was finding clients.

My co-founder and I were networking with as many people as we could find to try and take the business off the ground.

At first, I was determined to start with a high enough MRR that I wouldn't have to work another job alongside the business.

So imagine my excitement when we received interest from a production company that wanted us to help with editing their video ads.

They were working with some HUGE brands, so the growth and potential would have catapulted our business if everything went well.

But as we entered more advanced talks, something felt wrong.

They wanted us to edit ads for one of their clients who was a betting company.

Gambling is strictly forbidden in my religion and as a practicing Muslim I am NOT willing to compromise on my beliefs no matter how much money is on the table.

We told them we wouldn't be comfortable with that part of the work but they said it was an "all or nothing" type of deal.

So we walked away.

Kept networking and reaching out to people.
I had to get a second job to pay the bills.

Our target revenue took a little longer to reach, but it's okay.

Because:

"You do not leave anything for Allah's sake, except that Allah will replace it for you with that which is better than it" - as the famous Hadith says.

And we really do have some AMAZING clients now.

That's why we have never hesitated to turn down opportunities that conflict with our beliefs.

→ Alcohol brands
→ Dating apps
→ Gambling companies

They could offer $1 million and I'd still say no.

Simply because we don't want to risk promoting something that can lead people to fall into what we consider sinful.

So... my business is important to me, but not at the expense of my beliefs.

If you are in a similar position and have turned down a job/client/business opportunity because it conflicts with your values and principles, then don't worry.

Something better is surely coming.

And you can never put a price on your morals.

I'm finding winter in the UK hard.


→ The cold mornings
→ Frost on the ground
→ Sunset at 3 PM...

I come from a very warm country so I'm used to it being 25 degrees Celsius at this time of year, not less than 5.

Everyone told me the UK would be cold
But I still wasn't prepared for the winter.

Here are 5 other things I wish I knew before moving to the UK:

1️⃣ Outside of London, it's not as expensive as you might think but you still have to budget carefully. 

2️⃣ The job market is very competitive. You often need to make compromises - don't expect to find your perfect role at the perfect salary right away.

3️⃣ People are friendly but value their time. So don't take it personally if people are selective about who they network with.

4️⃣ The startup ecosystem is thriving, especially here in Scotland as the government has invested in the Techscaler programme to help founders launch and grow tech startups, while other initiatives like the Ecosystem Fund support projects.  

5️⃣ The trains aren't always the most reliable, but for the most part public transport is useful and well connected here.

What surprises you most about the UK?

This is the time of year I'm most grateful for running my own business as a Muslim.

Simply because

As a founder,
You have no obligation to:

-Go to a work Christmas party
-Where most of the team will be drinking alcohol
-And if you don't go, it'll reflect badly on you

Since moving to the UK, I was surprised how many Muslims face this dilemma each December.

They simply don't know what to do.

There is no right or wrong answer as it's down to you as an individual.

But I can understand why some would feel uncomfortable to attend.

On the other hand, I can also understand the pressure and worries that if you don't go it might hurt your career or you'll be seen as not part of the team.

I'm grateful I run my own business so don't have to deal with this.

And as a founder, I would never make someone feel like they're jeopardising their career by not attending a work social event.

UK Muslims - what do you usually do in this situation?

The question I get all the time is:

"How do you do it all?"

-Founder of a growing business
-Full-time university student
-Work a night job
-Just got married
-Post on LinkedIn multiple times a week
-Manage a team of 15+
-Create content for social media every single day

From the outside looking in, my life seems very busy.

But the answer is simple...

Routine + systems + consistency.

My business is turning 1 this month.

Here are 8 things I wish I knew before starting out...

1. Always take action

Researching is good but sometimes you can overthink about a project and delay getting started on it. Looking back, the best initiatives we have are ones where we just went for it and took action and then improved them in real-time.

2. Define KPIs

Switching to measuring performance based on KPIs rather than hours worked has been transformational for the team and something I wish we'd started from the beginning.

3. Build long-term goals

At first it was about getting through the next day...
Then the next week...
Then the next month...
Before we knew it, a whole quarter had gone by.
So my advice would be to always look at the big picture and set yearly goals and then track them quarterly, monthly and weekly. (Reverse engineer it so you're working with a goal in mind)

4. Still be yourself

We committed to building in public but there were times when I held back from posting anything personal because I wanted to keep my content focused around the business. Yet the more people got to know me, the more they learned about my business.
If I was starting over, I wouldn't hold back as much.

5. Client acquisition won't always be a priority

At the start, I remember worrying about how we would find enough clients to sustain ourselves in the long term.
But as time went on, I realised business isn't about acquiring more and more clients, but rather keeping the ones you already have and letting them refer you to others.

6. Build a team culture

Growth isn't just revenue. It's also how much your team trust you, how they show up and how good the quality of their output is. I'm grateful for the culture we are building at Podcutz!

7. Don't be afraid to let go

This is the sunk cost fallacy - the idea that it's hard to let go of something if you've invested a lot of time into it, even if it's not right for you. Now, I don't worry about it. If we've put a month into testing out a system but it's not working, that's fine. I choose to look forward rather than backwards. Nothing is lost, it's just a lesson learned.

8. Don't compare to others

There are many other businesses who are at very different stages to us after their one-year mark. The biggest lesson I learned is do not compare yourself to them. We are all on our own paths.

Podcasting is about to change in 2026...


As we shift from single episodes to series.

Serial podcasts are already big in some genres.

-> True crime
-> History
-> Television reviews

But they've yet to take off in others.

Especially in the business/growth/entrepreneurship space.

And I think 2026 will be the year to do it.

Here's why:

Podcasts have to stay fresh for viewer retention
Without alienating their core audience.

A great way to do that is by having mini-series over the year.

And breaking episodes down by theme.

It's backed up by the statistics, too.

Apple recently released their podcast statistics of 2025.

And the most shared show?

A series.
It was The Telepathy Tapes.

Series create shareable, bite-sized content pieces that leave listeners hooked.

It's just like Netflix - they want to watch all of the episodes then race to talk about it with their friends.

Here's how I imagine this looking like for a business podcast:

-> Series 1: How I started my business
-> Series 2: Interviewing inspiring entrepreneurs
-> Series 3: Daily habits and practices I follow

...You get the point.

Different series. Multiple episodes. One overarching podcast.

If I had to start Podcutz from zero today, I'd do these 5 things first.

Not because the old way was wrong.
But because I know better now.

1. Define a crystal-clear offer

Not "we do podcast production."
Too vague. Too broad.

Instead: "We handle editing, show notes, audiograms, and publishing so you save 40 hours per week and publish consistently."

Specific. Quantifiable. Clear outcome.

2. Build frameworks and systems before scaling

Don't hire until you have SOPs.
Every process documented.
Every deliverable explained in creative frameworks.

This is how you scale without chaos.

3. Create a credit system for testing

Let clients try different deliverables without heavy upfront fees.
Editing? Audiograms? Thumbnails?

They test what works for them. Low risk. High trust.

This would've closed deals faster early on.

4. Track KPIs from day one

Not just for us. For clients.

Show them:
→ Episodes published on time → Audience growth → Content performance

Data builds trust which leads to retention.

5. Focus on one type of client first

Not "anyone with a podcast."

Niche down: 
Founders building personal brands. B2B companies with thought leadership podcasts. Coaches monetising content.

Pick one. Master it. Then expand.

The lesson:
You don't need to figure it all out before starting.

But you do need systems, clarity, and focus to scale.

I learned this the hard way.

You don't have to.

You don't need to be the loudest person in a room to run a business.

Some people are surprised when they meet me in real life and I tell them I'm founder of a growing media company with a team of 15+.

Maybe it's because people think a founder has to be:
→ Loud
→ Extroverted
→ Over-the-top

After all, that's what so many of the founders we see on social media are like.

But I think being introverted and introspective is a strength, not a weakness, as a founder.

Many of the most successful entrepreneurs are people you wouldn't even look twice at if you walked past them in the street.

Think about Bill Gates, Warren Buffett or Dharmesh Shah (founder of Hubspot).

One of the most successful founders I know sends his son to all of the meetings and international trips because he simply doesn't have the social battery for it.

Yet he still owns and runs a $190m e-commerce business…

Clear evidence that the volume of your voice ≠ your business acumen.

So this is a post for all of the more reserved founders.

→ You don't need to share every detail of your private life to be successful.
→ You don't need to feel bad for being more of a listener than a talker.
→ You don't need to change who you are to fit into some mould.

The only thing you need to do is realise that this doesn't stop you.

✅ The strongest leaders are the most introspective
✅ The more 'quiet' you are as a person, the more you learn
✅ Research shows introverted entrepreneurs are more willing to make changes to the business and communicate more purposefully 

So, all this to say, your personality isn't a deficiency if you're still doing what needs to be done and achieving your business goals.
