In 2018, I made a big decision. After 16 + years in financial planning, I decided it was time for a change - not because I had the next big thing lined up, but because I felt a deeper calling. 

I wanted to create something that was truly mine, something that could make a real difference. 

So, I sold my financial planning business and took a leap into the unknown.

My journey began with a podcast. The goal? To inspire and educate, to touch lives in a meaningful way. It was a new chapter, one that brought me to LinkedIn to share my thoughts and connect with others. Little did I know, a simple video post in April 2018 would turn everything upside down. 

Suddenly, companies big and small were reaching out, drawn to the unique blend of my corporate background and this fresh, authentic approach I was taking on LinkedIn.

It was a lightbulb moment. The corporate world was hungry for genuine connection, for personal branding that resonated on a human level. 

So, I founded a new venture focused on just that. Helping leaders and entrepreneurs across the globe build powerful personal brands on LinkedIn became my new mission.

Fast forward to today, I've had the privilege of hosting the most successful entrepreneurs on my podcast, speaking at events worldwide, and most importantly, guiding others to find their purpose and voice online.

How to find a good co-founder (a guide)

I get this question more than the counts of my heartbeat... :)

I found mine through a random meeting in 2024.

Long story short ;)

I was in the UK. He was in Pakistan.

We didn't talk about equity. We just started building.

Over a year later, we are still here (better than ever).

Here's what I looked for and what you should look for too.

1. Shared values (especially faith)
When your core values align, small disagreements don't become big problems. For us, faith was the foundation.

2. Work ethic
Are they willing to work before talking about equity? Do they show up consistently? This tells you everything.

3. Long-term vision
You need to be building toward the same thing. Not just "let's make money" but what are you actually building and why?

4. Problem-solving
Do they solve problems or just point them out? This tells you if they'll be a builder or a blocker.

5. Small sacrifices
If they're not willing to make small ones now, they won't make big ones later.

Now, there is no perfect guide for it, but this is what you can try for yourself.

Step 1: Search
Find people through networking events, your online community or through your persona brand.
 
Step 2: Talk
Have real conversations with each other and check if your values align or not.

Step 3: Work on a small project
Work for 1-3 months. Something very specific. This is where you see who they really are.

Step 4: Analyse
Do you feel energised or drained? 
Did they show up? 
Can you trust?

Step 5: Decide
Don't rush because you "need" someone. A bad co-founder is worse than no co-founder.

If I had to say in 1 line, I would say, 
"When your values align, your energy flows, and the purpose clicks, you've found your co-founder."

And that changes everything.

When you speak to the internal pain, the stuff people feel but don't say out loud, they don't just like your post.

They reach out and they will trust you before you ever get on a call.

Now here's how to do it:

𝗜𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁:

Stop saying "we help you grow your business."

Start saying "you're tired of being your company's best-kept secret."

Surface problem vs internal pain. Big difference.

𝗜𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀:

Stop asking "what are your goals?"

Start asking "what's costing you the most right now by staying invisible?"

𝗜𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀:

Trigger the feeling first and then offer the solution.

People don't need convincing.

They come because you understood them before you sold them.

I was about to step into the second year of running my business...

When I decided to completely change our core offer.

On paper?

Things seemed perfect.

🔹 Great clients
🔹 A fast-growing team
🔹 In an industry I'd spent my whole career working towards

But behind the scenes?

I could sense that something was wrong.

The videos we were editing seemed to lack one thing:
Structure.

We could get better results if we were involved earlier in the chain.
So it was time to do something about it.

I knew that if Podcutz stayed on the same path…
Jumped to the next client…
↳ I'd regret it.

Why?

90% of founder content on LinkedIn fails.

Why?

Because almost all of them are posting.
...But only 10% are actually building authority.

Every founder starts with good intentions.

They decide to “start posting.”

They:

→ Plan thoughtful topics
→ Invest in decent production

But after a few weeks something happens.

The posts get 20 likes.
Maybe 1 or 2 comments.
And absolutely no business impact.

Most founders post random thoughts.

One day it's hiring advice.
The next day it's productivity tips.
Then a motivational quote.

But the market can’t understand you if your message keeps changing.

Authority comes from repeated signals, not scattered ideas.

2. Inconsistent content cadence

LinkedIn rewards momentum.

But most founders post when they feel like it.

One week: 4 posts.
Then nothing for a month.

From the algorithm’s perspective, that account simply isn’t reliable.

Consistency compounds visibility.

3. No content flywheel

One video.
One post.
One idea.

And that’s it.

High-performing founders do the opposite.

They turn one idea into 10–20 assets across multiple formats:

→ Short-form clips
→ Carousels
→ Written posts

4. No strategic positioning

Most founders talk about their company.

The founders who win talk about the market.

They:

• share insights
• challenge industry norms
• tell real founder stories
• explain how things actually work behind the scenes

That’s what builds authority.

So what actually works?

The founders dominating LinkedIn today are the ones who built systems behind their content.

Systems that handle ideation, scripting, editing, distribution, analytics and more.

Because the real advantage isn’t posting.

It’s compounding visibility over time.

The biggest lie in media companies

more services = more money.

Every founder believes this at some point.

But it's wrong.

More services = more chaos.

Here's what actually happens:

Each service needs a different process.

Your team asks "what do we do for this one?" every single time.

You're stuck explaining.
Stuck delivering.
Stuck fixing.

You grow revenue but lose your time.

You're not building a business.

You're building a job where you're the only employee who matters.

I lived this at Podcutz.

But here's what I told them:

These are all symptoms of one thing, 

Lack of Clarity.

You don't know what you're making or why you're making it.

So everything feels uncertain. 

If there's no clarity, then different kinds of fear will dominate.

Here's what changes everything:

Answer 3 questions to yourself.

1. What are you making?

Are you teaching? 
Sharing your story? 
Building a founder brand? 
Helping people solve a problem?

Get clear on what you're actually creating.

2. Why are you making it?

Not for likes. 
Not for validation.
Is it to help others? 
To build your business? 
To document your journey?
Why does this matter to YOU?

If you can't answer this, you'll quit the moment it gets hard.

3. How are you going to make it?

What's your process? 
What's your system?
Daily? Weekly? Video? Written? Both?

Clarity on "how" increases the confidence.

When you answer these 3 questions clearly, everything else falls into place.

The fear of judgment? Gone.
The lack of confidence? Gone.
The clarity? Just Came.

You stop asking "what will people think?" and start asking "does this serve my purpose?"

That's the shift.

Most people never make content because they never get clear on these 3 things.

They're stuck in the fog of "should I?" instead of the clarity of "this is why I am."

So here's what I want you to do:
Answer these 3 questions for yourself right now.

1. What are you making?
2. Why are you making it?
3. How are you going to make it?

I've analysed hundreds, maybe even thousands, of posts on LinkedIn.

I spend hours on here every single week.

Here are 8 uncomfortable LinkedIn truths people don't want to admit
(but everyone needs to know) ↴

1. You don't need 10,000+ followers to succeed. Even I signed my first client when I had only a few hundred followers.

2. Most people give up posting after 2 months. It's true that you see a dip in analytics around then, but stick at it and they'll come back up.

3. Every founder can learn the strategy, but no founder realistically can dedicate the hours needed to grow on here without sacrificing their business.

4. The algorithm does play a part in performance, but good content will always perform regardless.

5.  Many people write on here about what to do. Few write about what THEY did.

6. You need to post high reach (personal) posts AND low reach but high conversion (ICP) posts if you want your account to grow.

7. Video is what sets apart the top 5% of profiles from the rest.

8. LinkedIn has a winning formula, especially if you're a B2B founder. Doesn't matter what your industry is, it works in everything from law to tech.

A soft reminder that we all are humans building here.

Stay Human & Humble.

Up to 45% of a company’s value can be attributed to CEO reputation.

Not revenue.
Not a product.
Not marketing spend.

Reputation.

This number comes from research by Weber Shandwick, who found that nearly half of a company’s market value is tied to the CEO's reputation. 

This "CEO reputation premium" also has other benefits such as attracting investors and boosting employee retention, especially in times of crisis. 

Looking at some of the most well regarded visible CEOs today:

E.g. Ben Francis MBE, Steven Bartlett, Chris Donnelly. 

They're known for showing up and sharing online.

On platforms like LinkedIn.

Yet on the other hand we've all seen founders who post: 

-> Every aspect of their daily routine
-> Copy and pasted ChatGPT posts
-> Nonsense just for the sake of posting

These are not the founders boosting their company value by 45%.

So the key difference is:

Clear strategy.

What you post about, where, to who and why.

That's what draws the line between the founders who use content to boost their business and the ones whose content loses them credibility.
