Bittersweet day today. 

I'm moving my in-laws from the home they've been in for 15 years to an apartment closer to us. 

I don't think I realized how much their house meant to me. 

It’s the place I asked for their daughter’s hand in marriage. 

It’s where we broke the news that we were having kids. 

It’s where we gathered as a family for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. 

It’s where the cousins get to have sleepovers in the same big room and stay up way too late. 

It’s where I learned how to smoke good BBQ. 

it’s been a retreat from regular life.
A place to just relax with family. 
And now it’s not anymore. 

Just like that. 

These types of transitions don’t happen often in our lives, so it’s good to sit with them when they do come about.

Reflect.
Appreciate. 
Mourn if you must.

Next chapter starts for them in just a few hours and then our house will become the place where everyone gathers. 

A passing of the torch. 

We are ready, but we are sad nonetheless.

Cherish the moments while you’re in em, friends, they don’t last forever.

Linkedin is taking aim at automated AI comments. VP of Product Management, Gyanda Sachdeva, posted a video talking about the importance of authentic commentary on LinkedIn, stating that going forward if LinkedIn detects automated comments, it will: 

1) remove from the default “most relevant” sort

2) not show the comment beyond the commenters network (a.k.a. Miss out on all those juicy comment/level impressions we now get)

3) restrict user accounts for repeat offenders 

This is awesome to see. 

Linkedin is doubling down on authenticity and trust.

It’s a core differentiator for the platform amidst a world filled with social media bots, and I think it’s great they are leaning into it.

ChatGPT cooked me whe I asked it how much parmigiano reggiano contained 30 grams of protein. This is why I pay Chet the big bucks.

Every Friday night I think “maybe I’ll go to the gym tomorrow.” 
Every Saturday morning I think “maybe I’ll skip the gym”
Then I remind myself that going on Saturday is one step closer to 50+ extra workouts per year. 

Sometimes that works and I go. 
Sometimes it doesn’t and I don’t. 

But just 1 year ago I never even thought about going on a Saturday if I went all week. 

This is what change from the inside looks like. 

I’m down 75lbs and 50% to my goal weight.

I will never understand why airlines board front to back instead of the other way around. I get that they make money by offering “early access” to the plane, but in an industry that is already filled with delays, is the incremental revenue really worth the general inefficiency & annoyance to passengers? 

Guessing yes or they wouldn’t do it, but still… from an operational perspective it seems totally backwards. 

I assumed chatGPT would have a better answer, but no dice. 

Truly mindboggling to me. Anyone else?

On the bright side…

Starting conversation on Linkedin is one of the most valuable ways to build your brand here. Commenting is the most effective way to get yourself on the radar of people you'd like to know better.

LinkedIn can be a depressing place to spend time these days. It's almost impossible to scroll the feed without seeing somebody talking about getting laid off. 

I can relate, as I've been through it myself a couple of times.   

Fortunately there's no shortage of incredibly talented people whose mission is to help people through career transition.

Ads are coming to (open) AI (but not to Claude, that SuperBowl savage) and the NYTimes published this perspective from a researcher who left OpenAI recently, supposedly because of it. 

I don’t know how personal you get with Chad Gipity, but I tell it a lot more than I would ever have shared publicly on Facebook… 

May have to rethink where I spill the beans. 

Then again, is it any different than how much Google knows about me?

I found this Valentine’s Day card wedged halfway under the dresser in our bedroom on February 20th and if that doesn’t perfectly encapsulate exactly what this card says, I don’t know what does. 

This Valentine’s Day was actually the first in 9 years that Megan Bailey Darmody wasn’t stressed beyond belief working as a VP of Marketing at a flower delivery company. 

You’d think that might make us stop and celebrate it properly for once in a decade, but alas… 

Here’s to all the other partners in chaos grinding through a busy work and home life. The ones who don’t need a Hallmark holiday to celebrate our love because we rely on it to get through the other 364 days per year. 

Parents, I’m curious… 

Do you make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day? Or is it more of an afterthought like a card jammed under a dresser for you, too?
