Don’t work for one company too long. Dont job hop. Don’t be laid off. Don’t have job gaps. Don’t show your gray hairs (yes that’s a thing).  

Don’t ask for remote work or hybrid work and maybe not in-person. At least be willing to work in any part of the world. 

Also only apply online but not easy apply and not on LinkedIn maybe Indeed but company websites.

Network but don’t reach out to recruiters. Maybe hiring managers, but only once a year. 

Write cover letters but complain that they’re useless but also say they’re good. 

ATS isn’t real but it’s also very real.

Oh and forget the green banner on Tuesdays but it’s good on Wednesdays. Or when someone wants to rage bait and get impressions. 

Don’t do projects without pay but also don’t say no because you need a job. 

6 rounds is bad, 5 rounds is borderline, 3.5 rounds is perfect 

This basically sums up the state of job searching these days.

It’s exhausting. Debilitating. Unstable.

And if you’re laid off or looking for a new job, it’s your reality. 

Just never give up on YOU, and control how you show up every day.

Nothing reminds you that you’re unemployed like Thanksgiving dinner.
The questions.
The side glances.
The “you’ll bounce back” pep talks from someone who’s been at the same job since 2004.

It’s not just the layoff that hurts.
It’s being expected to smile through it.

The truth is, layoffs don’t take holidays.
They follow you to the table.
They sit quietly beside the cranberry sauce.
They echo in every “So what’s next?” from a cousin you haven’t seen in five years.

You don’t need to perform gratitude just because it’s November.
You’re allowed to feel the grief, the fear, the fatigue.

Not everything needs a silver lining.
Not every loss needs to be “a blessing in disguise.”

Sometimes it’s just hard.
And that’s the most honest thing you can bring to the table.

My husband called me early this morning to pick him up, his car was undrivable after a bad accident.

Not the 7am call anyone wants. Or the call anyone wants ever. 

When I arrived his whole front end of his car was gone. The car likely totaled. The rubber brake pad came slipped off the brake and he hit another car. 

Not on our 2025 bingo card or in our financial plans. 

After a year of incredible challenges - losing our dog, my husband hospitalized and struggling with medical issues, my son injured, stitches in my toe, damage to our home…. 

It’s just….not what we needed. 

It’s been a horrible year of challenges.

But we were able to pay the tow truck driver. We will, with some challenges, be able to get a car with insurance money. 

He is ok, the most important thing. 

And we both have jobs to go to this week.

So many do not. I remember in 2023 when I was in a car accident, hit from behind, when I was laid off. 

The anxiety was even worse. 

If you are so inclined, please help my holiday drive for laid off workers.

And target (yes I know we don’t want to support them) has a gift card sale right now if you’re so inclined - that’s great too)

I have many more families to help… but 2025 you’re giving me a challenge

My new job and toilet paper together. 🧻 




You may be wondering why my new job consists of a large box of toilet paper…

Well today we finished our last box from the COVID-era. Yes 2021-ish time frame.

During Covid I was laid off after 15 years. Home-schooling kids, and fearful of what was next for me. 

I landed a new job 5 months later and in 2023 the same year my dad got ill and died, I was laid off again. 

Same anxiety. 

But during Covid so many helped, there was so much community and kindness amongst the fighting about masks 

And this is why this holiday drive means so much to me. 

My new job for the next few weeks consists of making magic for those who don’t have any this year.

And with SO many amazing donors… we are doing just that 

Because the world is upside down. People fight daily but parents and the kids who didn’t ask for layoffs deserve help.

I still have 20+ families I can help. Likely  more I haven’t answered.

A man commented on my post and told me I’m a “scam” because I coach people in life and careers.

Honestly?
If helping people untangle their burnout, their self-doubt, their Sunday dread, and their “why am I crying in the laundry room again” moments is a scam,  then adulthood is the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.

You think I’m the threat?
Buddy, have you seen real life?

People are juggling:
	•	jobs that drain them
	•	kids who need something every 4 minutes
	•	aging parents
	•	a sense of purpose that evaporated sometime in 2019
	•	and stress-snacking behind a closed pantry door

But yes.
My 60-minute Zoom calls are apparently the danger.

Meanwhile the internet is like:
Just manifest!
Just be grateful!
Just hustle!
Just take a bubble bath!

Okay, thanks “experts” that fixed absolutely nothing.

Here’s the truth:
People don’t need perfection.
They don’t need toxic positivity.
They don’t need another corporate buzzword.

They need support.
They need direction.
They need someone in their corner when everything feels heavy.
They need a plan, some accountability and to be seen. 

If that makes me a scam?

Then I’m the nicest scammer on LinkedIn.

And at least I’m out here “scamming” people into believing in themselves again.

Here’s the truth no one wants to admit on LinkedIn:

Gratitude isn’t always inspirational.
Sometimes it’s messy, angry, and born from pure survival.

I’m not grateful because “everything happens for a reason.”
(That’s a lie we tell people so they stop talking about their pain.)

I’m grateful because I lived through things I shouldn’t have had to.

The burnout that companies call “a busy season.”
The layoffs that hit people who gave everything.
The pressure to be a perfect parent, perfect employee, perfect human all while running on empty.
The moments I kept working through heartbreak, exhaustion, and fear because life didn’t give me a choice.

I’m not grateful for any of that.
I’m grateful I didn’t let it harden me.
I’m grateful I held onto kindness when the world wasn’t kind back.
I’m grateful I didn’t become bitter, even when I had every reason.

Everyone posts the polished version of gratitude.

Here’s mine:

I’m grateful I didn’t break.
I’m grateful I didn’t quit.
And I’m grateful I don’t pretend the hard parts didn’t happen.

If your gratitude this year feels complicated, uncomfortable, or a little bit angry, 
you’re not alone.

Some of us are saying “thank you”
not because things were easy, 
but because we survived them

Crazy thought here:
You’re allowed to love your job and still count down to Friday like it’s a national holiday.

Both things can be true.
And honestly?
Most weeks… they are.

“I am embarrass to ask but I have been applying to jobs since June of this year and no luck. 

I take care of my 2 grandchildren boy turning 4 yrs old December 30th and girl turning 3 in May. 

I did not want them to go through the system and my granddaughter was recently diagnosed with autism and I fell on hard times. 

I  get $546 a month for snap and I have exhausted my savings. I have $16 in my account and my rent for December is not paid, car note is 2 months behind. I do some deliveries to try and get some cash on hand but it’s not enough. 

I refuse to put up the Christmas tree because there’s no way I can put any gifts for them. I am also open to work. God bless you and your family.” 

I got this DM from a woman in need.

This is the next family I’m trying to help.

It’s the holiday season aka the busiest time of year to layoff or fire people. 

Goes to show how humanity is just not a part of the work world for so many. 

So the next time a company says, we’re all family. 

Think if your family would fire you and ruin your holidays (they may ruin your holidays but that’s different!) 

Be a good human

Sometimes you just need to grab what you want and hold on tight… even if others don’t think you should have it..

That’s what Cooper believes anyway. 

We all need a little bit of unapologetic determination and grit in our lives

If you post an open to work post PLEASE make sure it’s set to allow everyone to comment not just connections. 

I see so many who have it set to connections only (I have done this accidentally) and it can greatly limit your reach.

Oh and use that Open to Work post to let yourself shine. Don’t waste time and space on your previous company

I - Invite others to connect and network with you 

N Niche down instead of saying open to anything and everything 

E - Elaborate on what you want, who you are, and why you matter

Somewhere along the way, women were told that ambition expires once you have kids.

That choosing flexibility means you don’t care about growth.
That wanting a bigger career makes you selfish.
And wanting a slower season makes you “unmotivated.”

I reject all of it.

Working moms are allowed to want more.
More leadership.
More money.
More time.
More joy.
More balance.
More purpose.
More flexibility.
More LIFE.

You’re allowed to want a promotion.
You’re allowed to want to be home for dinner.
You’re allowed to want to build something of your own.
You’re allowed to dream of a different path entirely.

You’re allowed to want BOTH stability and excitement.
Both rest and ambition.
Both motherhood and career growth.

It doesn’t make you less committed.
It doesn’t make you unrealistic.
It doesn’t make you ungrateful.

It makes you honest.

I wish more women heard this:
Wanting more doesn’t mean you’re failing where you are. It means you’re growing.

And we deserve workplaces and lives that let us grow without guilt.

Stop shaming people who don’t want to work for themselves. 

People who want to work in a company still “bet on themselves.”

I applaud entrepreneurs as much as I do corporate workers.

You can be laid off at any time just as your business can fail. 

Instead of shame or pretending you’re better than..  let’s meet people where they are.

Some people want meaning, what their own thing, want a job with purpose. 

Some just want a paycheck to find their purpose outside of work. 

Less judgement more help makes the world better.
