I know you’re probably curious about my name — April Strong.
It’s not my birth name. I was born Vijayalakshmi.

In 2019, my life fell apart. And in April 2020, one quiet afternoon, something shifted.
I felt strong — not in a motivational way, but in a soul-deep way. Like I was being reborn.

I no longer wanted the identity I had outgrown. So I created a new one — to honor who I was becoming.

I came across a short clip recently that said more in seconds than most speeches do in hours.

An older man was running at a calm, almost unimpressive pace. A group of younger runners surged ahead of him, full of power and adrenaline. For a moment, it looked obvious who would “win.”
But time told a different story.

The burst faded.
Breathing grew heavy.
Energy dropped.

The steady runner kept moving , same rhythm, same focus, no drama.
That contrast isn’t about fitness.
It’s about mindset.

We live in a culture obsessed with fast starts, quick transformations, instant results, viral moments. But real growth rarely shouts. It compounds quietly.

Here’s the difference:

🚀 You rely on excitement to begin.
🔥 You chase visible progress to stay engaged.
📣 You need recognition to maintain momentum.

For leaders, this means choosing language that restores energy instead of draining it.

So keep a sentence ready.

I recently came across a powerful insight shared by Dr. Shadé Zahrai about a 1970s psychology experiment that quietly explains how mindset shapes our everyday experiences.

Psychology professor Robert Kleck once drew fake scars on people’s faces, let them see themselves in a mirror, and then secretly removed the scars before sending them into conversations with others.
Yet, participants later reported feeling judged, ignored, and treated differently — simply because they believed the scar was still there.

The scar was never real.
But the experience was.

That’s how many of us move through life.

We walk into meetings, interviews, relationships, social spaces, and new opportunities carrying invisible scars — from past failures, criticism, rejection, comparison, or self-doubt — convinced others can see them.

What this experiment teaches us about mindset and life:

* Belief creates experience
If you walk in expecting judgment, your body language, tone, and energy reflect it. People don’t respond to your past — they respond to what you project in the present.

* Confidence isn’t flawlessness
It’s not allowing perceived weaknesses to run the narrative. A mistake, setback, or slow phase only becomes a scar if you keep defining yourself by it.

* People mirror your self-image
When you doubt yourself, others sense hesitation. When you own your worth, people naturally respond with respect and openness.

* The scar exists only in your mind
Most people aren’t replaying your past failures or shortcomings. You are — and that internal story quietly limits your growth.

So how do you let go of the invisible scar?

– Rewrite the inner dialogue: I bring value. I am learning. I belong here.
– Shift focus outward: from “How am I being judged?” to “How can I contribute?”
– Collect evidence of growth: wins, progress, positive feedback — revisit them when doubt appears
– Act aligned with confidence, even before you fully feel it — your mindset will follow your actions

The people who grow the most aren’t free of scars.
They’ve simply stopped letting invisible ones decide how they show up.

Your past experiences don’t define you - unless you keep carrying them into every new moment.

So pause before your next conversation, opportunity, or decision and ask yourself:
Am I holding onto a scar that isn’t even there?

Because the moment you stop believing in it,  it loses its power.

I watched a short clip that offered a simple shift in thinking:

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁.

Karan Johar asks her:
“Do you think you’re a diva?”

Most people would:

• say yes… and unknowingly accept a label they didn’t define
• say no… and distance themselves from something that might actually be a strength
• laugh it off… and let the other person control the narrative

But the real risk?

You get defined before you even realise what you agreed to.

Because the moment you answer without clarity,
you’re not responding to a question -
you’re stepping into their interpretation of you.

But watch what Sushmita Sen does.

She pauses.
And instead of answering… she asks:

“What do you mean by diva?”

That one line changes everything.

Now she’s not reacting to his label.
She’s defining it on her own terms.

And then she goes one step further,
she gives her own meaning,
anchors it to someone she admires,
and calmly adds:

“If there are any hidden agendas, I’d like to know.”

Graceful.
Sharp.
Unshakeable.

Here’s the communication lesson:

Not every question deserves an immediate answer.
Some questions deserve clarity first.

Because in real life:
People don’t just ask questions.
They carry meanings.
Assumptions.
Sometimes even traps.

And the moment you respond without clarity -
you accept their definition of you.

Think about the workplace:

“Are you being too aggressive?”
“Why are you so quiet?”
“You’ve changed…”

Instead of defending, explaining, or shrinking,
pause and ask:

“What do you mean by that?”

That’s not avoidance.
That’s leadership.

Sushmita didn’t just answer a question.
She protected her identity in real time.

And that’s what powerful communication looks like.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.

A project manager sent one message to the team:
“Client wants the homepage updated ASAP.”
Sounds simple, right?

The designer redesigned visuals.
The developer adjusted the layout.
The copywriter rewrote the headline.
Everyone worked fast. Everyone worked hard.
Then came the review meeting.

The client said:
“I only wanted the banner text changed.”
Silence.
No one was careless.
No one was incompetent.

The problem was communication.
One vague sentence created multiple interpretations.
And this happens everywhere -
in teams, relationships, leadership, and even daily conversations.

We often assume communication has happened…
just because we said something.

But people don’t act on your intentions.
They act on their interpretation.

One unclear sentence cost the team hours of work.

Confidence isn’t knowing everything.
It’s trusting yourself even when you don’t.

Science shows our brain doesn’t settle when we feel perfect - it settles when it feels safe.

Safe enough to think:
“I may not know this yet… but I’ll figure it out.”
By the end of our conversation, she smiled and said,
“Oh yeah, I am putting the pressure of knowing everything”
No.
You just need to trust yourself.

I saw this clip and realised, she isn’t really doing anything.
No big expression.
No dialogue.

And it made me notice how rarely we offer that to the world.
We rush.
We scroll.
We show up physically, but not emotionally.

A smile doesn’t need translation.
It doesn’t need confidence.
It doesn’t need the right words.
It’s the first impression we forget we’re making.
This video reminded me that sometimes connection starts
before the conversation ever does.

I watched a short clip that stayed with me longer than I expected.

Two customers.
One had influence.
The other had consistency.

The first expected priority.
The second had earned it - quietly.

She had shown up every year.
Supported the bakery during lockdown.
Placed orders just to keep the business encouraged.
Sometimes she didn’t even collect them.

She wasn’t buying pie.
She was investing in people.

And that’s what the owner remembered.

Not the transaction.
Not the revenue.
But the relationship.

It was a reminder of something we often overlook:

Under every role, title, or business exchange -
There’s a human being keeping score emotionally, not financially.

Here’s what this moment teaches us:

💛 Consistency builds emotional equity
Loyalty isn’t loud. It’s repetitive. It’s showing up when it’s inconvenient.

🤝 Support creates memory
People remember who stood by them when it wasn’t required.

🌱 Small gestures compound
Kindness doesn’t need a scale. It needs sincerity.

🧠 Relationships are felt before they are measured
Influence may open doors. Warmth keeps them open.

In professional life, this matters more than ever.

Clients stay because of trust.
Teams stay because of respect.
Communities grow because of care.

We often think impact comes from grand actions.
But more often, it comes from quiet loyalty over time.

So ask yourself:

Who are you showing up for consistently?
And who might remember you - not for what you bought or sold -
but for how you made them feel?

Because in the end,
transactions fade.
Connection doesn’t.

What stayed with me most was how much clarity emerges when we pause to really examine how we support young people today.

I had the pleasure of moderating a conversation with Suman Maheshwari and Goldie Uttamchandani, who work with young people from two different lenses - counselling and coaching.

What became clear through the discussion is that while the approaches may differ, the intention is the same: helping young people develop clarity, confidence and emotional strength.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲:

• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲.
Young people open up when they feel psychologically safe, not when they feel assessed or corrected.

• 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀.
Trust-building and emotional safety must come first before we move into solutions or outcomes.

• 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁.
But the way support is structured can make a significant difference in how young people respond.

These conversations remind us that supporting young people today requires awareness, patience, and collaboration between parents and professionals.

I recently came across this video that hit deep.

It said:
“𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.”
And that changes perspective completely.

If you’ve ever felt like:
You’re always the strong one
Always showing up
Always holding space
Always pouring into others
But nothing seems to come back your way
Maybe you’re not being overlooked.
Maybe you’re the impact.
The way you love.
The way you protect.
The way you stay solid in your character even when you're exhausted.
That’s not weakness. That’s strength at a different level.

Some people don’t walk into rooms.
They stabilise them.

Your presence might be the calm in someone’s storm.
Your consistency might be the reason someone didn’t give up.
Your strength might be what’s holding entire worlds together - quietly.

Yes, it gets heavy.
Yes, it feels unfair sometimes.
But don’t let that make you forget who you are.
Positivity isn’t about receiving constantly.

Sometimes it’s about recognising that you are the source.
And here’s the powerful part - 
One day, someone will meet you at your level.
They won’t drain you.
They’ll match your energy.
They’ll pour back into you.

Until then:
💡 Protect your energy.
💡 Don’t shrink your light.
💡 Know your value isn’t defined by what you receive.
💡 Keep showing up - but also learn to refill your own cup.

Impact isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it’s the quiet strength that keeps everything from falling apart.
And if that’s you, 
That’s not ordinary. That’s powerful.

Most people think saying sorry makes them polite.

In reality, repeated unnecessary apologies teach your nervous system one thing:
 “I’m only safe when I shrink.”
That’s why you say sorry before asking a question.

Sorry before sharing an opinion.
Sorry for taking time.
Sorry for taking up space.
This isn’t humility.
It’s conditioning.

Your subconscious links apology with protection and over time, your voice starts asking permission to exist.

Here’s the reframe that changes everything:
👉 Respect does not require self-erasure.
Replace apology with gratitude wherever blame is not required.
 • “Sorry for the delay” → “Thank you for your patience.”
 • “Sorry to bother you” → “Thanks for taking the time.”
The message shifts instantly.

 You stay warm — without sounding small.
 You stay polite — without giving away power.
Words don’t just communicate.
They condition.

So choose language that expands you, not language that makes you disappear.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲.

Most people try to eliminate negative thoughts.
That’s impossible.

Even 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗸 𝗗𝗷𝗼𝗸𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗰 says doubt, fear, and frustration never fully disappear, not even for monks or elite athletes.

The real skill?
Don’t stay there for long.

Imagine this:
You present an idea in a meeting.
It gets rejected.

Your mind spirals, “I’m not good enough… I always mess up…”
A trained mind pauses.
Catches the spiral.
Shifts to - “Okay. What can I improve?”
And moves forward.

That shift is emotional fitness.
Not toxic positivity. Not suppression.
Just faster recovery.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆.
𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆.

That’s exactly why I meet my community every single day to train the most important conversation we’ll ever have: the one inside our own minds.

𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘴: 𝘕𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘬 𝘋𝘫𝘰𝘬𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘤

🛑 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Have you noticed how often we end our sentences with
“Does that make sense?”

It sounds polite.
But here’s what’s really happening 👇
Imagine you’re presenting an idea in a meeting.
You explain it clearly.

Then you end with: “Does that make sense?”
Without realising it, you’ve shifted from leading the conversation to seeking approval.

Confident communicators don’t ask for permission.
They invite participation without giving away ownership.

That’s why swapping it with phrases like:
• “What part stands out to you?”
• “Does this align with what you were thinking?”
• “What’s your perspective on this?”
…changes the entire energy of the room.
