Stuck in an endless loop of client changes?
Lost track of what revision this constitutes?

Yeah. Been there. Done that.

The secret? It's not about saying no.
It's about saying yes to the right things upfront.

Every project that goes sideways starts the same way:
Vague agreements. Fuzzy boundaries. Good intentions.
Six weeks later you're bleeding money and everyone's frustrated.

Here's my framework after 30 years of running two 8-figure businesses:

The SOW is your salvation.
Not some boilerplate template. 
A real document that covers:
• Exact deliverables (not "design work" but "3 homepage concepts, 2 rounds of revisions")
• Hours of operation ("We respond M-F, 9-5 PST. Weekend requests get Monday responses")
• Revision rounds spelled out ("Round 1 includes up to 5 changes. Round 2 includes 3.")
• Feedback cycles defined ("48-hour turnaround for client feedback or the project may be delayed or additional fees may be incurred")

But here's what most people miss—
Don't work on client notes immediately.

Client sends 37 pieces of feedback at 11pm Friday?
Producer sends conflicting notes from the CEO?
Marketing wants one thing, sales wants another?

Stop.
Collect everything first.
Resolve the conflicts. Get on the phone and discuss it with your client to get alignment.
Separate the "have to haves" from the "nice to haves".
Then present unified changes.

"Based on all feedback received, here are the 8 changes we'll implement. This constitutes revision round 2 of 3."

Watch how fast the random requests stop.
No extra work that goes unappreciated.
No more feelings of being taken advantage of.

Communicate before the crisis, prevents the crisis from happening.

"Just so you know, we're entering round 2. You have one more included. After that, it's $X per additional round."

No surprises.
No awkward money conversations.
No resentment.

Scope creep isn't a them problem.
It's a you problem.
And that's good news, because that means you are in control.

They're not trying to take advantage.
They just don't know where the boundaries are because you never drew them.

Draw the lines early.
Communicate them clearly.
Everyone wins.

For weeks, I've been running an experiment to see if AI could replace me.

The results? They're making me question everything.

This is my confession.

I've been using Stanley AI to write my LinkedIn posts. Sometimes an idea I wanted help developing (introverts survival guide). Sometimes captions for videos. Sometimes just to see what it would suggest.

The tone, formatting, content—spot on. Of course it doesn't know everything about me, so editing was required. But sometimes it perfectly captured my quirky humor and writing style.

The first post outperformed my typical posts by 8x.

Yes. 8x!!

At first I was nervous. Would it be obvious? Would someone call me out immediately? I waited with bated breath as I hit post. And waited.

It was like a passage from Edgar Allen Poe's Tell-Tale Heart. Can't you hear it? Wasn't it obvious? It was maddening.

Here I am, beating the authenticity drum on LinkedIn while not being 100% authentic myself. Racked with guilt.

With each affirmation—"I needed to hear this", "love your perspective", "that hit different"—I just felt like a total imposter.

People say human-made is better. 
That all AI content is slop.

Apparently not.

Go back. Reread some of my posts. 
Tell me which ones are AI.

Helping a life-long dive addict, who bought a beach house next to her favorite dive resort, keep the beach house rented. Provided solutions for a full brand development that included a website with booking integration, search engine optimization, and incorporate social media.

Created a website that addressed their needs to work on multiple devices and integrate online booking. With a communication strategy that included their philosophy, commitment to sustainability, and the owner’s industry influence & innovation, lifetime achievement award, and his educational workshops.

Unlike traditional R&D units, TH!NK works as a decentralized knowledge network that leverages the intellectual capital of IBI Group employees across disciplines and geographies. As a TH!NK Innovator I helped shape TH!NK’s next steps, selected Pocket R&D projects, and engaged in other TH!NK initiatives, including international design competitions.

NYC Driverless Future Challenge – 1 of 4 finalists from more than 200 participants from 20 countries, organized by Blank Space, City of New York, New Lab, AIANY, and Fast Company.

For the competition, helped conceptualize an app solution and illustrate a three-minute video animation, posters, and develop the narrative as part of the final design competition submission.

For the finalist presentation, designed a clickable app prototype based on four customer experiences with the sAVe App that matched the stories being told at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Pitch the City event.

TH!NK R&D Innovator

I got involved with IBI Group's Intelligence Sector when they were attending an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) conference here in Utah at Snowbird. I designed and coordinated everything they needed for their booth at the conference and also ran the booth for them so they could attend the event. We hosted a live technology demo at the booth showing in real time how we were collecting data with drones and delivering that to our Event App for the PanAm Games in Toronto. The Intelligence team was impressed with my skills, knowledge, and personality and wished they had help with their business development In the US West Region. Once I started helping the three of them, word started to spread quickly and I started helping out across the company with many things that include: responsive website mock-ups, app mock-ups and demonstrations, video demonstrations, illustrations, icon development, brochures, and a new tradeshow display just for the US Intelligence Sector.

Intelligence Sector - Marketing & Communications

Recruited to multiple global teams that managed the brand messaging and its social media accounts.

Developed tools for the IBI rebrand that included brand guides, an illustrative tool-kit, icon development, and educational webinars.

Instrumental in the strategy and development of unique social media campaigns, averaging a 200% - 500% improvement in engagement over our daily content postings.

Managed the marketing and graphics department for the Salt Lake City and Park City offices. Working with four separate disciplines on business development, marketing, events, and award-winning projects developing placemaking (visioning/branding) for cities and resorts.

Orem State Street Corridor Master Plan Project – 2 Merit Awards

Spearheaded a cross-channel strategy to drive the community engagement website and increased stakeholder participation from +/-40 people per traditional public outreach meetings to over 800 active
participants online.

Achieved over 35,000 page views and over 11,000 unique visitors on the website over the 26 week project.

Recognized as Client of the Month, from Mindmixer, for generating high stakeholder engagement via their platform where participation in topics received 500% to 1,500% more than the average.

Startup was acquired by the largest transportation company in Utah due to the disruption of their page one rankings on Google and subsequent loss of sales.

As the graphic designer and pre-press manager for this small print shop, I took it upon myself to learn the other roles in this company. By learning and understanding the whole process, from customer ordering and interaction, to design and production prep, to final production whether in-house or off-site through vendors, and to final delivery and payment with the customer. This did help me move into a role as one of the decision makers and to work with the vendors on outside services and products.

As a graphic design intern at this publishing company, I worked on the print shop side. Which worked mostly with the tourist industry creating marketing material such as brochures, flyers, postcards and business cards.

Growing up my father was a gifted carpenter, from creating the design to handcrafting a finished piece. Because of his dedication and influence, I look at my work as a craftsman. I approach each project with a hands-on mentality, creating pieces with lasting value that create meaningful experiences. I believe that different projects require different tools and enjoy the challenge of creating a unique product for the personal needs of each individual client. I am interested in working with other enthusiastic people who have a vision and who believe in what they do.
