I have zero respect for disrespect.

And way too many people conflate the two, then hide behind the line: “I’m just being direct.”

Here’s the real difference:
- 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦.
- 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧.

Directness comes from a clean intention: solve the issue, fast, with clarity.

It sounds like:
“This isn’t working. Here’s why. Here’s what we’re changing. Here’s who owns it. Here’s when we’ll review.”

No drama. No guessing. No ego.
Just reality and next steps.

Disrespect looks different. It’s usually:
 - taking shots at the person instead of addressing the issue
 - being condescending or sarcastic
 - trying to embarrass someone (especially in public)
 - using “radical honesty” as permission to be a jerk

And sounds like:
“This is basic stuff. How are you still messing this up?”
“Do I need to do everything myself around here?”
“Everyone else gets it. Why don’t you?”

And the outcomes are night and day:
✅ 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭.
People bring you problems early. Decisions get faster. Standards go up. Culture gets lighter.

🚫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭.
People stop telling you the truth. They start managing your emotions instead of managing the work. Initiative dies. Burnout grows in silence (big one)

Be direct. Be clear. Be human. You can do all three!
