High CTR ads looks great only in reports and dashboards. 
Meanwhile these ads drop ROAS by 60%

Chasing high CTR is actually a waste of time. 

The way Meta works it shows ads to different types of users, some users click everything and buy nothing. Others barely click, but mostly convert. 

Let's look at an example:
Monthly spend: $65000

3 ads running:
Ad 1: founder makeup tutorial- very polished– 3.8% CTR (18% budget)
Ad 2: customer applying makeup in her car– raw– 1.3% CTR (43% budget)
Ad 3: before/after comparison– silent– 0.9% CTR (39% budget)
They paused Ad 3 and doubled down on Ad1 and told team to get variations.

Because CTR was too low.
When checked conversion data (GA/3rd party tracking)
Ad 3 brought 2.2x more customers with 1.6x better CPA.
High CTR was attracting curiosity clickers. (They did not convert through RMK either)
Low CTR was attracting actual buyers

So we rebuilt the ad 3 strategy with creative diversity:
Week 1: meme-style ad→ CTR 1.1% → ROAS 2.6
Week 2: ASMR product demo → CTR 0.7%→ ROAS 2.9
Week 3: GRWM vlog on iPhone → CTR 1.4% → ROAS 3.2
None of these had flashy CTRs

All hit different buyer types and performance shifted:
Before: Spend: $65000, Avg CTR: 2.1%, CPA: $34, ROAS: 1.6
After (Month 3): Spend: $95000, Avg CTR: 1.3%, CPA: $22, ROAS: 2.9
CTR was low but revenue doubled

The framework to use:
1. Launch ads across different looks, tones, formats.
2. Ignore CTR for 7 days and let Meta find buyers.
3. Check conversion data at day 7 & 14.
4: Scale converters and not clickers.
5. Pause high CTR ads with weak CPA.

Same spend, better diversity got Lower CPA.

CPA is not a right metric.

If you are only celebrating an ad because it has a low cost per cquisition (CPA), you are probably losing money without realizing it.

We all know that not all customers are equal.

Imagine you have two ads running:
Ad A: getting you a customer for just $10 CPA. Everyone is happy.
Ad B: getting you a customer for $35 CPA. it is expensive.

Now, let's look at what that customer actually bought:
Ad A (cheap winner): brought in customers who only bought your $59 entry-level product.
Ad B (expensive loser): brought in customers who bought your $299 premium bundle.

suddenly, ad A is a disaster, and Ad B is the gold mine.

Always look at AOV and not CPA by ad set or creative.
optimize for the highest value customer.

The low-CPA ad often attracts the "discount shoppers" the people who will buy once and never come back.

The slightly higher-CPA ad will be focused on the value of the full solution (like the premium bundle), attracts the serious buyers who are ready to spend more from Day 1. Higher LTV from day 1.

Find the creative that consistently drives the highest AOV.

Once you find that winner, DOUBLING DOWN on it is the easiest decision you'll ever make, even if the CPA is a bit higher.

This is the reason your ROAS is not picking up.

Your ad account has been stuck in "Learning" for 3 weeks and you dont know why its not scaling.
Here's what Meta's learning phase actually is and how to fix it.

When you launch a campaign Meta doesn't know who to show your ad , who is your audience, who this ad is meant for.

So it tests multiple audience combinations tracking engagement, clicks, add to carts and purchases to figure out which audience converts.
During this you will see good days, bad days, fluctuating costs, unstable ROAS, random spikes and drops.

This is normal because Meta is testing.
The goal is to get 50 optimization events within 7 days to exit learning.

And you know what resets learning?
panic edits restart learning from scratch:
adding new ads to an existing ad set
aggressive budget changes (50%+ up or down) 
changing audience or targeting Switching ad creatives 
changing optimization events

Each edit = back to square one.

Learning Limited is a trap:
If your ad stays in learning too long it gets stuck in "Learning Limited."
Meta doesnt have enough data to optimize and this is the reason your ad underperforms permanently.

Solution 1: Use broader audiences and let Andromeda find buyers with Advantage+.
Solution 2: Consolidate ad sets. 1 ad set at 2500/day beats 5 at 500/day each.
Solution 3: Increase budget gradually- 20% every 3 days. Not 1000 to 5000 overnight.
Solution 4: Run 5-8 strong ads. Not 30 mediocre ones.

Andromeda changed the game:
Meta's new system learns faster from clean signals but applies penalty on:
- Poor creative diversity

6. Performance Tracking
Measure what actually matters.

Yesterday I had a chance to speak to a D2C founder making $6M in sales every month from the website.
This is what I learnt. 

1. Don't panic when CAC goes up, ROAS falls or Meta becomes "unstable."
2. When it comes to scaling, dont scale ads but scale systems.
And most  brands are not ready with systems. Guesswork is what they do.

Because he speaks to other founders, se said they see this pattern every week.
Brand hits 2.5x ROAS at 40K/month spend which looks good and team celebrates.
Then they push to 90K/month and suddenly ROAS tanks to 1.4x.
They blame meta ads but actually their systems are weak. 

Some fixes mentioned:
1. Fix signal quality
Bad data = bad delivery.
Before scaling I check three things:
a. EMQ score above 7
b. Pixel + CAPI working together
c. Purchase event firing with correct value

If signals are weak scaling only makes the loss bigger.

Meta optimizes based on what you feed it. Garbage in = garbage out.

2. Clean your creative library
Meta now ranks creatives by:
a. Hook rate 
b. Hold rate 
c.ATC cost 
d. Purchase density
Remove everything thats pulling the account average down.
Pull last 30 days data. Sort by CPA and ROAS. Kill bottom 50% of ads immediately. 

3. Fix landing page leaks
If ads are good but conversions drop problem is not the ads.
Check: page load under 3 seconds, no extra pop-ups and clear 3 second product explanation,  bullets above the fold and 1 CTA not three

A landing page fix can improve CPA by 15-30% before scaling.

4. AOV correction
Bundle placement at cart page, free shipping threshold,  exit offers
Even a $15-20 lift in AOV changes your scaling ceiling completely.

5. Creative diversity (not volume)
Scaling dies when every creative looks the same.
Fix: 1 problem ad, 1 proof ad (testimonials, results), 1 comparison ad (us vs them), 1 testimonial ad (real customer), 1 fast cut UGC (raw, authentic)

This unlocks different audience pockets Meta couldnt reach before.

6. Account structure reset
ASC + broad is the default now.
Remove: Small audiences (under 500K), over segmentation (10 ad sets doing same thing,  old retargeting (messy overlaps)
One clean structure scales better than five messy ones.

7. Set scale rules before scaling
never scale manually. Check: whats the max CPA we can tolerate?,  whats the minimum ROAS for scale?, whats the rule to pause?, Whats the rule to double down?

TLDR;
Scaling is easy when the foundation is clean.
Scaling is painful when you skip these steps.
