We’re still stuck between banks.

Most “stablecoin payments” today follow what I call the Stablecoin Sandwich:
Local currency → on-ramp → stablecoin flies onchain → off-ramp → local currency

Yes, onchain settlement is fast. But the part people skip: every transaction still starts and ends in a bank.

stablecoins are becoming the glue that lets two siloed banking systems talk more deterministic settlement, better records, fewer intermediaries, but the edges are still traditional rails.

So the bottleneck isn’t blockchain speed anymore.
The bottleneck is the moment value leaves the chain:
1. FX + liquidity still need reserves on both sides
2. capital controls still apply
3. compliance and account funding still create delays
4. rebalancing still happens through old FX markets

In other words: we inserted a faster layer between two slow systems.
The bigger vision (and the one that excites me):
the stablecoin sandwich is a midpoint, not the end state.

Real innovation is when more of the stack moves onchain so users don’t need to exit:
payroll, merchant settlement, lending, treasury, collateral, working capital.
The winners won’t be the chains with the fastest consensus.

They’ll be the teams building the most complete onchain financial ecosystem, one that makes the legacy system feel outdated.

Payments are just the first layer. The rest is next.
