What happens if you write one on purpose for a keyword?

I tested it.

A few weeks ago, I posted about Content Refresh vs. Rewrite as a LinkedIn post. 

Why? Because I noticed something interesting in live SERPs for that term:
- Discussion forums were ranking
- LinkedIn posts were ranking

What happened next surprised me:
The LinkedIn post now ranks in the sidebar and just ahead of our editorial post

Content strategist vs content engineer: what's the difference? 

I get asked about this a lot. 

The modern team has two sides:
 → Strategist: Decides what to say and why
 → Engineer: Builds how it gets said and shipped

So your strategist shouldn’t be drowning in QA, manual CMS publishing, metatitle updates & endless formatting decisions

The leading teams need both.

It's fair to say that search changed faster than we've expected (or at least faster than I expected)

Everyone seems to want to change their strategy -- but no one is certain how. 

The ideas from these 11 experts are a great place to start. They're in the trenches everyday to see what's clicking and what's not. 

A few clear tips stood out: 
✔ Intent-aligned content: Your content must map directly to how users and AI systems frame questions in context, not just surface keywords.
✔ Semantic clarity for specific audiences: Say exactly what you mean for the people (and the models) you want to reach. Generic content gets ignored.
✔ Third-party signals (mentions, sentiment): AI models don’t read trust signals from the broader web ecosystem.
✔ Use formats AI actually pulls into answers: Video, structured snippets, definitions, checklists, tables — these are the formats that show up in answers, not just SERPs.
✔ Pruning outdated work that adds noise: Reduce clutter to improve signal quality

Content refresh vs rewrite: How do you choose? 
 
Most teams respond by rewriting everything from scratch or worse, changing dates and calling it a “refresh.”

That doesn’t work anymore. (And Google is very good at spotting fake updates.)

How do you actually decide?

Here’s the rule I use:

Refresh when:
 • The core intent still matches
 • The page already earns mentions or trust
 • The structure is sound but outdated
 • You can add new insight, not just new words

Rewrite when:
 • Search intent has shifted
 • The page was built for rankings, not extraction
 • The content lacks a clear point of view

Freshness is about whether your content still deserves to be reused.

Here’s how to calibrate your refresh strategy:
- High-impact/high-intent pages (product pages, key decision content): update every ~30 days

- "Evergreen” content (AEO Hubs, core guides, cornerstone pieces): update every ~45–60 days

- Research/original-data assets: update every ~90 days

- Low-priority or legacy posts: revisit every ~6 months

Pages are constantly re-evaluated now, and the content ages and strays from its original intent + new insights are found or maybe it's stopped matching how people actually ask questions

When a page declines, the questions pile up fast:
- “Is this an SEO issue?”

But first, a fun fact: I've written a lot about productivity

Professionally -- I've worked for 2 project management software co's and 2 different standup tools as a content marketer

Personally -- I've written a lot about productivity (esp on Medium, more than 700 articles, with close to half of those being about some form of productivity)

That said, I'm often not as organized or as productive as I'd like to be & there are a lot of new tools with AI capabilities

I've spent a bunch of time in Notion & have played w/ several others

Right now i'm really enjoying Granola for takeaways from meetings and then creating next steps and to-do lists and to give next steps (screenshot below)

I can then ask q's of *all my meetings* and create to-do lists from it. Super helpful.

Systems are assets.

- Turn internal expertise into a repeatable input (sales, CS, product)
- Create a workflow for extraction, editing, distribution
- Ship always-on content that compounds authority
- Run regular retros (what worked, what didn’t, why)
- Regularly update as needed
