Today, on International Women’s Day 💕💕💕I am thinking about the women who had to fight twice as hard to be seen, heard, trusted, funded, promoted, and believed.

We owe so much to the women who refused to bow to systems that were never built fairly for them. To the women who kept going anyway. To the women whose anger became courage, whose courage became action, and whose action made more space for the rest of us.

“Tremendous amounts of talent are lost to our society because that talent wears a skirt.” — Shirley Chisholm. Decades later, it still feels painfully current.

I have seen it myself across Western Europe and North America. I have seen it in interviews. I have seen it in venture capital. I have seen how a woman can walk into the room with the same credentials, the same ambition, the same capability, and still be examined more harshly, doubted more quickly, and forgiven less easily.

Too often, when a woman speaks, someone looks for a flaw in her tone.
When she leads, someone calls her difficult.
When she is ambitious, someone calls her too much.
When she succeeds, someone searches for a reason to discount it.

And this bias is not abstract. In the US, women-founded startups have secured only around 2% of all VC funding over the past decade, according to PitchBook.  

So today is not only about celebration. It is also about honesty.

In 2026, whether someone wears a skirt still shapes careers, access, and opportunity far more than many are willing to admit. The barriers are often artificial, but the consequences are real.

Today, I celebrate women.
The women who came before us.
The women building now.
The women who are tired but still standing.
The women whose work is questioned more and credited less.
The women who keep creating, leading, building, and pushing forward anyway.

We owe them respect.
We owe them recognition.
And we owe them a world where talent is not filtered through bias before it is allowed to be seen.

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman who has ever had to turn injustice into fuel.

A reality check for engineering students (and early-career candidates).

Let’s think from the employer’s perspective for a moment.

You have two candidates:

#Candidate A — hasn’t even graduated yet.
Little to no experience.
Needs heavy guidance, structured training, and close mentorship.
Needs exposure to an international team and real projects to grow.
You’ll invest ~ $200K in training, scholarship, infrastructure, and leadership time.

#Candidate B — graduated, experienced, strong communicator.
Fluent English.
Can contribute immediately with minimal (or no) supervision.

Now ask yourself: if you were the employer, which one would you pay?

And yet, I increasingly see students approaching the market with this mindset:
“Pay me — and teach me — and give me everything — and I’ll take my time.”

That logic doesn’t hold in a competitive global market.
Maybe in a galaxy far away — but not in reality.

When an employer chooses to invest in a student or apprentice, it’s a risk. It’s a belief in potential. It’s long-term thinking — and a serious investment that most people won’t ever receive.

Opportunities like this should be treated with humility, appreciation, and real awareness of the shot you’re getting — especially if your goal is to become a world-class professional.

We are proud to work with many brilliant students who deeply appreciate the environment they’re in and grow into world-class professionals.

One more pattern I keep noticing:
Often, the least experienced and weakest communicators are the loudest.
The most capable people tend to be quieter, more respectful, and more focused on the long game.

The global market isn’t emotional. It’s rational.

Build skills. Build reputation. Build maturity.
The quiet builders usually win.

Everyone wants the “best AI tool.”
Most people need a better workflow. 🧠

This pyramid is accurate in one way: AI is becoming specialized—coding, research, writing, design, ops. But the real shift is deeper: AI is turning into infrastructure, not a single app.

Developers already moved on. Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey shows 84% are using or planning to use AI tools, and ChatGPT (82%) + GitHub Copilot (68%) lead usage.

Reformulation is no longer a one-off product exercise. It is now an enterprise capability.

For years, reformulation was treated as a technical response to specific triggers: regulation changes, evolving consumer expectations, ingredient issues, or cost pressures. That approach is no longer enough.

Today, multiple requirements hit at once, varying by retailer, customer, claim set, and jurisdiction. Timelines are tighter, proof expectations are higher, and delays increase risk.

Within 5 years, in many large portfolios, 15–40% of SKUs may face reformulation pressure. When managed ad hoc, this often leads to 3-15% higher unit costs, execution delays, and tradeoffs that strain margins, operations, and shelf access.

Our white paper makes a clear case: Reformulation must be managed through a repeatable operating model, not reactive product-by-product decisions.

That means:
Treating reformulation as a portfolio program, rather than a one-off product change.
Translating external and internal requirements into clear portfolio implications.
Stress-testing options across R&D, procurement, regulatory, operations, quality, and commercial teams.
Prioritizing actions through a multi-year roadmap with strong governance and C-level ownership.

This is not just about changing formulas. It is about building the organizational capability to drive continuous change with greater speed, discipline, and confidence.

Reformulation as an Operating Model

One of the most important shifts shaping food is the rise of what I would call Co-Manufacturing 2.0.

For years, growth in small brands and private label helped fuel the co-manufacturing model. But the environment is changing.

Growth is now far more fragmented. The reality is no longer just “more volume.” It is more customers, more SKUs, more specifications, shorter lead times, and peakier demand.

A co-manufacturer built to serve emerging brands needs a very different operating model than one built for niche products. And both look different from a co-man focused on large-scale store brands.

Commercial model, planning approach, service expectations, plant flexibility, capex choices, and organization design are all different.

A co-man that has been successful in the last decade may not automatically be built for the next one. The trade-offs are not easy, and the transformation is not simple. 

That is why I believe the next phase will require sharper strategic choices. Not every co-manufacturer should try to be everything.

Some need to become the best partner for high-growth small brands.
Some need to win in complex niche products.
Some need to build the scale, systems, and reliability to dominate store brands.

And that is also why the right investor or strategic partner can become a real accelerator. Not just for capital, but for making the hard choices, building the right capabilities, and preparing for the next wave of change already visible on the horizon, including humanoids.

A healthier fruit market does not mean a stronger domestic fruit system.

We often talk about health trends in food as if they are just beginning. In fruit, that shift has already been underway for more than 20 years.

Fresh fruit has been steadily gaining share. Processed fruit has been declining. In fact, fresh overtook processed back in 2011. By 2035, fresh fruit consumption is projected to rise another 8%, while processed fruit declines 15%.

But there is a second story underneath this one, and it matters just as much. 

A healthier fruit market does not mean the U.S. is becoming more self-reliant in fruit.

Quite the opposite. As demand has shifted toward categories such as avocados, pineapples, limes, berries, tangerines, and other tropical or climate-sensitive fruits, the system has become more dependent on imports.

Fresh fruit import share rose from 39% to 55% between 2000 and 2023. Processed fruit import share rose from 30% to 59%.

So the key issue is not only consumer preference, incentives, or whether domestic farming is attractive enough. It is also that the fruit mix itself is changing toward products the U.S. often cannot produce competitively or at sufficient scale.

That makes the fruit market increasingly a supply-chain story, not just a health story.

For food processors and distributors, this is the strategic question: Are you still planning around demand trends alone, or are you building for a market where import dependence, sourcing concentration, cold chain resilience, and country exposure will define competitiveness?

Fruit Demand & Supply Evolution

2026 will be a faster M&A year in U.S. Food & Beverage.

Not because 2025 was weak (we tracked 370+ deals), but because one major group stayed quiet: PE.

In 2025, we saw roughly ~340 strategic/corporate deals vs. ~30 PE deals. That’s not a typical mix. And it matters, because when PE comes back, it typically brings two things the market has missed for a while: more acquisitions and more exits.

A few implications we’re watching for 2026:
 
Packaged food & beverage stays the engine. Still the largest share of deal flow, and a lot of it is in smaller companies (10–50 employees was the most active band).
 
Foodservice splits in two. More consolidation on the “traditional / price-driven” side, while growth acquisitions stay selective (health, function, experience).
 
Ingredients will look “small” by deal count, but not by size. Formulation change, cost pressure, and supply reliability keep ingredients strategically central.
 
Co-manufacturers are a high-potential value-creation theme that’s gaining momentum. More variety, smaller batches, faster turns. Many co-mans are entering a real upgrade cycle, and I expect more PE attention here in 2026.
