How To GRASP Confidence & Own Your Power

You were born confident, we all were. No baby has ever been born thinking that it is unworthy or underserving of its parents’ attention. Babies cry and are confident in their abilities to have their needs met. As toddlers, we learn how to walk, eat, talk, and do things independently; all of which work to build confidence within us. A toddler when learning how to walk does not fall and then assume they are not good at it or that they are a failure, the young child thinks nothing of the sort. They simply get back up and keep going. Even though they are beginners they do not believe they are failing, and they remain confident that eventually, they will understand how to walk, run, and even jump.

Gradually through life’s obstacles, perceived failures, hardships, and traumas, our confidence begins to dissipate and diminish with time. Confidence can begin to seem elusive and untouchable for many people as they enter adulthood and proceed in their careers. Sadly, a lack of confidence holds many people back in life, preventing them from tapping into their fullest potential and becoming successful. Throughout our lives, we face barriers that all work to lessen our confidence and it can be difficult to overcome for many people, especially for those who have lived through trauma. If left unchecked these past pains and traumas can work to lessen our confidence and hold us back in our lives and careers.

Even though confidence can begin to lessen over the course of our lives, it is possible to regain it. Ultimately, while some individuals may be naturally more confident than others, confidence is a skill that can be cultivated and developed through intentional effort and practice. My sincere hope is that this book helps anyone who is struggling with confidence realize that life begins the moment you step into the confident person you were always meant to be.

As Director of Orientation, I worked with 9 undergraduate schools/colleges, 50 departments, and external vendors to conduct weekly orientations. I kept all parties informed of changes regularly. By organizing eight in-person University Orientation sessions, I led the onboarding of 4400 students and 3800 parents annually. I oversaw Eventbrite registrations for over 7000 guests during Family & Friends Weekend annually. Moreover, I conceptualized and integrated International Peer Mentor Program, which boosted participation by 2400% in 6 years.

In this role, I served as a Posse Mentor for students in their first and second year at Boston University to give them the opportunity to establish leadership development in the community. I helped participants develop into self-reliant and productive leaders by designing a curriculum and delivering individualized group coaching sessions, academic support, and mentoring. Additionally, I provided mentees with a formal path to personal growth through life coaching, professional development in an area of interest, and an opportunity to learn from real-world professionals.

As a Director of Off-Campus Housing, I met students’ off-campus housing needs by providing quality housing listings in Boston and surrounding areas. By working on strategic planning and budgeting, managing support services, and implementing new programs, I helped residents achieve their educational and personal goals. Furthermore, I coordinated data entry operations for living opportunities in the local area and hosted off-campus hosting fair with 36 realtors and representatives from Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville.

During Parents Weekend, I administered reservation system, event advertisement, and billing for over 5000 guests. I handled logistics for 4200 students and 3600 parents during eight University Orientation Sessions annually. To fulfill department leadership positions, I held recruitment, interview, and training of over 70 students annually. Also, I monitored a budget of around $1.2M for 3 departments and directed a -week intensive training program for new staff to drive their professional development. While serving as Data Trustee for Off-Campus Housing & Orientation, as well as Departmental System Administrator for University Information Systems, I tested and modified changes to registration systems.

Screening for Mental Health

To raise awareness on college campuses about depression, alcohol abuse, and eating disorders, I spearheaded and executed National Screening Campaigns. While liaising between organizations, colleges/universities, professional organizations, warehouses, printers, and other external vendors, I ensured exceptional customer experience. Additionally, I established productive partnerships with American College Health Association, American College Counseling Association, National Eating Disorders Association, and the College Parents of America. I also managed 3 separate budgets totaling $250,000 and led national recruitment of over 800 colleges and universities to participate in program.

As a Program Associate of National Depression Screening Day, I handled all production stages of over 5,000 program kits, including creating materials, receiving donated items, assembly, and shipment. I managed payroll for 80 students and handled logistics for a 3-week orientation for international undergraduate and graduate students.

During my career, I helped non-profit organizations reach their full potential by successfully executing change initiatives.

Being a Visionary Executive, I am adept at maintaining strategic coherence, programmatic integration, financial sustainability, and administrative effectiveness throughout all phases of projects/programs. I managed 3 department budgets of over $2M and contributed to new staff training and development for leadership positions by initiating a 100-hour training program.
