You were born confident, we all were. No baby has ever been born thinking that it is unworthy or underserving of its parents’ attention. Babies cry and are confident in their abilities to have their needs met. As toddlers, we learn how to walk, eat, talk, and do things independently; all of which work to build confidence within us. A toddler when learning how to walk does not fall and then assume they are not good at it or that they are a failure, the young child thinks nothing of the sort. They simply get back up and keep going. Even though they are beginners they do not believe they are failing, and they remain confident that eventually, they will understand how to walk, run, and even jump.

Gradually through life’s obstacles, perceived failures, hardships, and traumas, our confidence begins to dissipate and diminish with time. Confidence can begin to seem elusive and untouchable for many people as they enter adulthood and proceed in their careers. Sadly, a lack of confidence holds many people back in life, preventing them from tapping into their fullest potential and becoming successful. Throughout our lives, we face barriers that all work to lessen our confidence and it can be difficult to overcome for many people, especially for those who have lived through trauma. If left unchecked these past pains and traumas can work to lessen our confidence and hold us back in our lives and careers.

Even though confidence can begin to lessen over the course of our lives, it is possible to regain it. Ultimately, while some individuals may be naturally more confident than others, confidence is a skill that can be cultivated and developed through intentional effort and practice. My sincere hope is that this book helps anyone who is struggling with confidence realize that life begins the moment you step into the confident person you were always meant to be.

I’m an introvert who hates parties

But I still make an impact at every event. 

- Big gatherings? Stressful
- Small meetups? Not my thing either. 
- Networking events? Exhaust me. 

But for years, I had no choice. 

If I wanted clients, I had one option: show up. 

As someone who thrives outside social chaos, that wasn’t easy. 

But there was one thing that helped me walk through those doors with confidence: my clothes. 

Here’s what I realized: 
→ When I dress intentionally, I feel ready.

- Better clothes – yep, that simple. And not better clothes like more expensive, but better in terms of fit, design, silhouette, color, and structure.

- You need to know what to do with them – yes, you can drop $500 on a beautiful blouse. That’s easy. But you need to know what to do with it. Yes, you can wear it with black pants, but seriously, that’s the bare minimum of what you can do with this piece. You have to learn how to use contrast, mix colors and patterns, and add textures and accessories to elevate that piece, not just “wear it.”

Think of your wardrobe as a tool to give you confidence, position you with authority, and send a signal that you are in charge.

But if you wear a tired “professional” suit, that isn’t it.

The most important thing I’ve learned when dressing big stars

Back in the day, when I was styling celebrities, I got a call.

It was from a publicist I knew, though we had never worked together before.

She asked if I was available to dress her major client for the upcoming Emmys.

I was so excited. Her client was one of the lead actresses on a hugely popular TV show at the time.

Then she said something that stopped me.

“She can’t wear black. Absolutely no black dresses.”

It was the first time anyone had told me to avoid a specific color. I was surprised but didn’t question it.

For our fitting, I didn’t bring a single black dress.

A month later, after the Emmys, I asked her why.

She said, “I have a harder time getting interviews for her. She might get less press coverage, and she’ll blend in on the red carpet. No one remembers black.”

We were talking about a major actress whose show was nominated for an Emmy.

She had every reason to stand out.

But that moment stuck with me and shaped how I approached selecting clothes for all my clients moving forward.

Whether it’s a red carpet or a boardroom, a meeting or an office, the outcome you want should always guide what you wear.

Some women tell me:

I get it. In an ideal world, only your ideas, expertise, and leadership would matter.

But here’s the reality:

People form impressions in seconds.

You can ignore appearance all you want, or insist it shouldn’t matter, 
but the reality is, it still shapes how quickly your authority is recognized.

So instead of fighting it, here’s the truth that actually helps you today:

Clothes are simply tools, a fast visual reinforcement of who you are and the level you operate at.

And it's important to remember,

Happy Black Friday, everyone!

The fact that it's on sale doesn't mean you have to buy it.

That's it. That's the post.

I hear the same statement from women in leadership every day:

But when I look in their closets, I see:

Black suits

That’s why your wardrobe looks like it was built on a rigid “must-have” checklist that makes you blend in with middle management.

No individuality, no strategy, and no alignment with who you’ve become.
