I've seen some TERRIBLE pitches, so if you're a freelancer pitching your services, I follow this formula:

"Hey, X! I love the work you do and often quote your [research/case studies] in my own pieces like this one [insert piece].

I never miss a deadline, clients say I'm a joy to work with (proof attached), and you'll get a publish-ready draft the first time around.

Here are some of my top-ranking pieces across [client], [client], and [client] that I'm pretty proud of.

And here's my calendar if you want to have a chat: [past link to scheduling software]."

Make it personal, show proof, make it dead easy to reach you, and get out.

A lot of content that we write for SaaS largely follows AP style guidelines so I'm going to let you in on a little editorial kvetch that drives me MAD: incorrect punctuation with quotation marks.

FROM THE TOP:

1. The comma goes inside the quotation mark, like so: "She's watching Sex and the City again," she says.

2. The exclamation mark also goes inside the quotation mark: "She's watching Sex and the City again!"

3. The semicolon lives outside the quotation mark: She shares that "she's watching Sex and the City again"; and I believe that.

That's all.

You have no idea how much original content means to me—I even make my own WhatsApp stickers.

If I’ve realized one thing after hundreds of hours testing modern software tools, it’s this:

👋 As with most things, look at your numbers but don't make them your  whole entire world—at least on LinkedIn.

90% of my client roster came in through my inbox and had never once interacted with my posts.

If you're lurking, *they're* lurking too—and most likely, taking notice without you noticing them.

Now, if you MUST track metrics because that's what marketers are wont to do, check:

1. Your posting frequency against how many DMs you get (from both your peers and your ICPs).

2. Your major content pillar's performance in the comments—are people asking questions, showing interest in what you do? (This is a good way to also give more information on how you think about industry).

And one I'd LOVE to see but LinkedIn doesn't listen to feedback (😠): how may people save your post.

🤔 Think about how you’re currently storing your brand’s visual content. 

You've likely got Google Drive (because it came with your email), Dropbox (because it seems like an upgrade from Drive), and WeTransfer (because you needed to send one big file that time).

You’re paying for two or three platforms to do one job. And the one job—getting UGC to your product pages—isn't even getting done. 🤷
