Two goals followed me through 2025:
🍝 eat better.
🤝🏾 secure more brand partnerships.

They weren’t super dramatic (well, aiming for $20k from brand partnerships might have been a ✨tad✨ dramatic).

But they slipped when things got busy. Not because they didn’t matter, but because everything else felt more urgent.

Clearly, something needs to change to keep long-term intentions from being eaten by short-term urgency.

So in 2026, I’m coming at them with different energy and making them top priorities.

And what makes that possible is the structure I’ve already been building inside Notion — slowly, almost without noticing.

Now I’ve been a Notion user for years, and I know for a fact that tools are only as good as the user. New templates can only take me so far, but I need to actually use them.

There's a running gag we have at Buffer during All Hands, where we call each one the "best All Hands ever" but yesterday's ✨truly✨ took the crown.

We went over some incredible metrics 
🚀 +16% signups
🚀 +20% ARR
🚀 +22% paying customers

...landed on some percentages that don't even look real
🚀 +1142% net income YoY

...and even got into profit and equity sharing as part of our ethos of sharing the rewards of success 💸

And we had these results without increasing prices or raising capital.

I think I can say I've seen Buffer through many highs and lows, and while I've always been proud to work with this team, I've never been prouder than I was in 2025.

So, here's to an even better 2026 and more record-breaking All Hands 🥂

I would like to drop my "serious" persona for a moment to talk about my close, personal friend Gege Akutami and close, personal enemy MAPPA and the return of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is back for its 3rd season tomorrow with a ONE-hour premiere.

Junk journaling (and associated tendencies of overconsumption) will be my 2026 hobby (*cough* vice *cough*) and I'm already ahead of the curve.

I started after my trip to Portugal with "supplies" I pooled from various stationery I bought but never used and I'm only being tempted to add more to it.

It's a meditative practice that's pretty challenging for me, as a historically online-only creative, exactly what I need going into the new year

If you follow trend predictions religiously like I do, this is my manifestation of the "analog hobby" trend – along with photography and maybe some actual journaling when I remember to do it.

Simple Programmer

Simple Programmer is a website created to help make the complex simple for programmers and developers in their own lives and careers. In 2015, the website shifted from having John as its sole content creator, to a contributor model that engages a pen of 150+ writers and video creatives. 

My work with SP started by establishing a solid and stated voice & vision for the site, so that the site owner could rest assured that any new articles by new writers would be in line with what he wanted for his site. I also created a unique style guide for the brand, so that any article that published was obviously "an SP article" - while still retaining the contributor's unique ideas and commentary.

We then set about recruiting and managing contributors for the site, reviewing and approving new submissions, curating continued involvement from prior writers, editing and coaching programmers through the (often new-to-them) experience of writing and publishing, formatting posts, and scheduling the content calendar to guarantee consistent new articles on the site.

I've continued to work with both to reinforce the reputation for the brand as an exceptional destination for programmers to improve their own lives and careers.

• Curated speaker talks (10), required TED video presentations (3), some music/breaks/emcee content, and event flow to present a cohesive programme that told a story from beginning to end (on New Ways to See Old Things) and separated each segment into topics and themes.
• Collaborated with speaking coaches from AB15 to put together an abbreviated training schedule for speakers to write, revise, practice, and prepare their talks in approximately 10 weeks.
• Helped TEDxAberdeen speakers to build on their application "idea worth spreading" and find the most important message they wanted to share with the audience.
• Through various mediums (email, virtual call, in-person feedback), coached speakers on writing, revising, practicing, and preparing their talks.
• Reviewed 100+ speaker applications to create a short-list for committee consideration, scrubbing details and information to blind present the applicants for consciously unbiased decision choices.
• Combined SEO research and content writing for titles/tags/description/categories to upload videos to the TEDx site for publication on YouTube.
• Sat on stage with tech and stage manager on the day of the event, to give cues and direct various transitions (cooperating fully with stage manager who ran the full book and stage movement) as rehearsals had not provided adequate time to practice and coordinate these details.
• Advised speakers and various organizations on best practices for SEO, sharing, and community engagement post-event to keep spreading the ideas and recognition for TEDxAberdeen going forward.
• Worked with the TEDxAberdeen committee on various planning logistics, especially regarding the speakers and programme.
• Received such praise after the event as "This was like a *REAL* TEDx event"

Tropical MBA is a website and podcast dedicated to helping people find freedom and opportunities through starting their own business. Their online community, Dynamite Circle, serves as a place to meet other like-minded location-independent entrepreneurs and avoid the pitfalls of entrepreneurial loneliness.

I started working with the creators Dan and Ian when the site was only a couple of years old, and the community had been growing for only a few months. As the first managing editor for their brands, most of my time was spent helping them to formulate and market the voice and vision for their community. This included organizing events (including their annual conference for 250+ attendees) and meetups around the globe, connecting members, and taking responsibility for creating or editing most of the site’s content and writing. 

We built the community from 50 paid members to over 1,000 in less than 3 years.

CreativeMind Search Marketing was a paid and inbound marketing consulting firm that specialized in eCommerce and small business SEO.

My primary work included optimizing campaigns, rewriting ad copy, and reporting SEO metrics to business owners in a way that they could understand both the numbers and the impact on their business objectives.
