Ya'll are going to get mad at me for saying this... but no, you cannot hop on the "quarter zip, not nike tech" trend.

Here's why:

Streetwear was born in the Black community. Nike tech = the uniform of the hood. Now Jason Gyamfi has flipped the script, helping young Black men reclaim intellectualism and ambition through style. 

The Black community rejoices 🙌🏾

BUT the wrong brands and people hopping on the trend can very quickly turn this from a cultural reset to a quiet reinforcement of proximity-to-whiteness professionalism.

And that's why you're not invited to the table.

Because Jason didn't create a trend about "dressing up."

He created a moment where young Black men could reclaim intellect, ambition, and soft confidence on their own terms, not to assimilate.

But when outsiders start treating the quarter-zip moment like a marketing opportunity, the narrative subtly shifts:

"This is the version of Black masculinity we can accept."

And suddenly, what started as empowerment becomes another unspoken rule: that Black men are only seen as 'professional' when they edge closer to whiteness.

This isn't about clothes.

It's about allowing young Black men to redefine professionalism, ambition, and identity without their value being measured by assimilation.

Some moments aren't trends. They're transformations.

And they deserve to stay rooted in the community that created them.
