I worked on the Workday Help product as a zero to one project. Workday Help provides HR knowledge and case management solutions that help employees find the information they need faster.

I was responsible for defining and executing on the roadmap for the case management product area. Our focus was on enabling HR professionals to be as productive as possible while providing the best possible experience to their employees.

I spent my first 2 years with Workday as a product manager on the Recruiting product team. 

My primary focus was on building new products and features focused on recruiter productivity. I was the lead PM on the new job requisition workspace feature which remains the most frequently used feature in the Recruiting product suite.

Senior Associate Product Manager

One Rocket

One Rocket was an employee onboarding SaaS startup which I founded in January 2015. With One Rocket, we participated in the Y Combinator fellowship program.

We worked with customers in both the US and Europe to help streamline their employee onboarding processes. The One Rocket product allowed new employees to access documents, learning content and more from one simple interface.

If you’re not talking to customers, it’s either because you’re too scared to hear the truth about your offering, or you’re unable to reach potential customers at all.

If the former, you’re definitely building the wrong thing and prolonging your inevitable failure, and worst of all, you know it.

If the latter, you’re not going to be able to sell the product even once it’s built, which also means you will fail unless you can fix it. So you might as well fix it now, when it’s cheaper and easier to fix the product.

Either way, intentional ignorance is not once of the traits of successful people.

The truth hurts!

It’s still just as hard to make a startup, despite vibe-coding and AI coding generally.

AI changes 𝘩𝘰𝘸 you write code, but hasn't changed anything else; you still need (a) to find people (b) who actually want to pay for this.

What do engineers hate the most?

1. Writing detailed PRDs.
2. Managing/fixing other people’s code.

AI might be more efficient. It also steals the joy and leaves behind the work we never liked.

Cross-apply to designers, writers, and more.

Building things is so much more fun than (1) finding people, (2) getting busy people to talk to you, (3) and tell the truth, (4) and then finding out they didn’t want what you built.

That’s why you build into oblivion.

And why it’s wrong, if this is supposed to be a company.

Going for a walk is healthy -- moving, sunshine, etc..

Also you’ll get ideas that you won’t get by staring at the screen or scrolling social media.

So, make the time.

Feeling overwhelmed is normal. If you’re doing the work of an entire team, you SHOULD feel overwhelmed sometimes.

It's concerning if it never happens, indicating a lack of introspection or overconfidence.

Only concerning if it’s every day for months without break.

Airplanes not only have multiple dials measuring the same thing (e.g. attitude, compass direction), but also operate with different power systems (e.g. electric vs suction).

Metrics need the same: Multiple angles on “what it is.”
