Daniel is a Senior Software Engineer at Google, where he tech-leads, designs and builds forecasting & pricing systems for ads worth billions of dollars. These are distributed systems that run on thousands of machines, process terabytes of data per query and combine Machine Learning modeling with game-like simulation of tens of thousands ad campaigns - all happening in real-time to enable thousands of concurrent users of buying tools like AdWords and DBM.

Daniel wields a rare combination of deep technical skills, a user-centric drive and an ability to align multiple teams towards a common goal - launching and landing high quality cutting edge products.

Daniel co-founded a tech startup that brought machine vision to the consumer photo space 10 years ago, he was an invited speaker at an ML dev conference in Zurich and speaks at startup events regularly. He holds multiple patents with Google, is published in a peer-reviewed ML journal from his time at IBM Research and is a Google Code Jam on-site finalist.

This is a senior role. You must have 10+ years of true, quota-carrying sales experience and a proven track record of closing multi-million-dollar deals end-to-end. No exceptions.

You should be comfortable running a highly technical sales process, selling to the C-suite and board-level executives, and owning complex deals from first conversation through close.

Last week I had the privilege of speaking at the sold-out, standing-room-only Berkeley Haas Tech Club's AI Summit, in front of hundreds of incredibly thoughtful future leaders. I shared a bit about my career journey helping to build GTM teams at four unicorns in a row - and the three lessons I wish someone had told me early on.

1️⃣ Choose the company, not the title.

A shiny role at a company that’s going nowhere… goes nowhere.

But joining a rocket ship - even if the title feels like a step “back” - will propel your career faster than any job leveling ever will. If you do exceptional work in a place with real momentum, your trajectory will take care of itself. I’ve lived this, repeatedly.

Real example: When I joined OpenAI as a founding GTM member, a lot of people told me not to do it - because I was moving from leading a 50+ person org back into an IC role. But I believed in the company, the mission, and the momentum. And that decision changed the entire trajectory of my career.

2️⃣ Be the person people can count on.

Be helpful. Be reliable. Build a reputation as someone with depth, institutional knowledge, and a willingness to support others.
And yes, set boundaries (I’m still working on this!), but aim to be the teammate others want in the room. This compounds over time more than any single project.

3️⃣ Nurture and grow your network - thoughtfully.

I get *hundreds* of “15 minutes to pick your brain?” messages every week. It’s simply not possible to take or respond them all, no matter how much I want to help.

If you’re reaching out cold, make it valuable for the other person. Show effort. Teach them something. Add perspective. Stand out above the noise.
Many of my biggest opportunities - and so many others’ - started because someone reached out in a way that was helpful, specific, and memorable.
