Rapists, Murderers, Vandals, and Fraudsters are getting bail.

Environmental activists, journalists, protesting students and even DOGS are being jailed.

What a wonderful world!!!.....

Can we all stop pretending to care about gig workers? 

Do you as a regular consumer of apps like blinkit, zomato, uber , rapido , urban company ect.

Do you really care about gig workers?

Think before you automatically say yes! 

Imagine for a second that your blinkit order is delayed by an hour. 

You keep calling your rider, he does not pick up any calls. 

At last you cancel your order, raise a complaint, list a reason which directly blames the rider and get your refund. 

That’s where our concern ends. 

You wouldn’t care to find out why the rider was not picking up your calls.

Did he get into any accident? This almost never comes to mind for the delivery partners right? 

The human and labour cost of this delivery service in 10 mins is mostly invisible to a consumer's eye. 

Now let’s see this situation from the side of a delivery partner.

The order you placed never got to him in the app due to some technical glitch.

Due to the glitch his account was blocked.

It took him 3 months to reach out to the respected managers and restore his account.

( true story ) 2 

A delivery partner was stopped mid-ride by members of bajrangdal  and was asked to show what’s in the parcel.

( true story ) 3 

One delivery partner died in an accident very recently, only hours ago.

Now I am not here to argue the responsibilities of the company involved, at least not in this post.

I just want to point out the oblivious state of the customers. 

Everyone online is saying: “Support gig workers. Stop exploiting delivery partners.”

But let’s be honest for a moment.

These are the same people who, 10 minutes later, will order milk, snacks, or dinner and refuse to pay ₹40–₹50 extra as delivery charges.

If delivery fees go up meaningfully, demand drops. We all know that.

So what should you do ? To really support gig workers and the gig economy ?

1st of all understand what they really want. 

Go online and find out the official demands of the workers union. 

Below I have attached the ss of a simple google search for the demands of the gig workers unions. 

READ THEM 

They are not asking anything that is way too illogical! 

They are demanding security, financial and physical. 

Deepender Goyal talked for 4 hours and yet he did not address the pressing issues of the “delivery partners” on whose shoulder the whole ecosystem is creating millions of dollars.

If you truly care, support has to go beyond hashtags and sympathy posts.

Otherwise, let’s at least be honest about our convience.
