My story:  Years ago, when I wanted to break into creating direct mail for magazine publishers, I launched a “contact campaign” to just two dozen VPs of circulation at the big Manhattan-based publishing houses. Every one of them responded, agreed to meet and became clients, including Time Life, Condé Nast, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Harvard Business Review and many more. It was a rapid 100% market penetration from a campaign that cost less than 100 dollars. What I learned was, by focusing on a small number of high value prospects, you can create rapid growth without spending a lot of money.

As a result:  I wrote a bestselling book, How to Get a Meeting with Anyone, which was named one of the top 65 sales books of all time. A new, updated edition releases next year, covering AI’s disruption and enhancement of B2B selling and methods for creating deeply human connections in the new AI era.

Gerry and I sung at Ginger Cove in Annapolis this week, and I am including “This Land” because I think we need to remember the incredible sentiment that Woody Guthrie expressed in this song. It is about including EVERYBODY. 

The verse that I sing here, that we include every time, is also written by Woody. I think it is classic.

As I went walking,
I saw a sign there, 
And on one side it said “No Trespassing”,
But on the other side,
It didn’t say nothing - 
That side was made for you and me.

This is one of the first songs my father taught me, and he loved to sing it. Happy Friday! I hope you sing something today.
