Most founders don't have a revenue problem. They have a pricing problem. And most pricing problems aren't strategy issues — they're trauma responses.

I was on a call last year with a founder doing $60K/year. 

Talented guy. 
Built a solid product. 
But completely frozen when it came to selling himself.

He'd happily drop $500 on a course. But when I showed him the path to $250K+? 

He went silent.
Not because he couldn't afford it. 

Because something inside him wouldn't let him say yes.

Here's the pattern I see everywhere:

Some founders hoard cash even when they're flush — because scarcity once hurt them.

Others blow through six figures chasing the next shiny object — because they're filling a void money can't touch.

And some?

A founder I spoke with hit his revenue target, felt nothing for about five seconds, and moved on to the next one.

That's not discipline. That's a warning sign.

In the early 1990s, neuroscientist Antonio Damasio at the University of Iowa studied patients who had sustained damage to their ventromedial prefrontal cortex, the region that connects reasoning to emotion.

These patients were fascinating.

Their IQs were intact.
Their logic was flawless.

BUT

They couldn't make a decision to save their lives.

The Iowa Gambling Task showed that when you sever the connection between emotion and cognition, people don't become more rational.

They become paralysed.

They'd take higher risks without fear.
They'd deliberate endlessly on trivial decisions while catastrophic ones sailed past unaddressed.

The patients weren't broken by losing emotion but by losing access to their emotional signal.

I see this pattern everywhere.
Not from brain damage. From success.

Every time you push through exhaustion without acknowledging it.
Every time you celebrate a win for five seconds and immediately open the next spreadsheet.

You're training your brain to disconnect from the very signal system essential for decision-making.

It looks like resilience. Feels like strength. But research says it's degrading your ability to lead.

The answer to burnout isn't more “sleep”. It's more structure.

I'm working with a founder who built a seven-figure company and then collapsed into burnout.

When we started, she thought she needed freedom. 
Fewer meetings. 
More self-care. 
Just do what she likes.

But here's what actually happened when she got that:

She spiraled deeper.

Because when you're dysregulated, your nervous system doesn't know how to self-regulate anymore. It's like a child who never learned boundaries - giving them "freedom" just makes the chaos worse.

So we did the opposite.
Not more rest. More discipline.
Not more "do what feels good." 
More structure for her mind, body, and emotions.
I literally walked her through the mental protocols and practices she needed to start recovering.
And I’d continue to do that only because she is not yet ready to do that for herself on her own.
I’m like the PT - except PT means psychological trainer.

Here's one simple practice that's been working:

Just sitting with the emotion.
Not numbing it with Netflix. 
Not fixing it with a framework. 
Not explaining it away with therapy-speak.

Just sitting with it like you would sit with a screaming child until they calm down.

(WARNING: Do not do this if you are not properly guided by a trained professional)

Because invalidating that child doesn't teach them how to self-soothe next time. And the same is true for you.

This is the Emotional Dysregulation Trap — one of the 9 Founder Traps that keeps high-performers stuck in burnout loops.

𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗮… 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁? 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿? 😳
An old schoolmate asked me this after more than 2 decades of us not seeing each other. 

And honestly? I get it.

Back in the day, I was:

🥶 More interested in skipping classes than scoring high grades.

🥴 More into getting pissed drunk than building a decent career.

😨 More likely to end up with a messed-up life than to do any meaningful work

I was definitely not giving out “future speaker” vibes.

But life was in the ditches, I was in the trenches, and if I wanted to respect myself, something had to change. 𝗦𝗼 𝗜 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗗.

And today, I get to stand in front of people and say the things nobody else wants to say.

But here's what I've noticed in 13 years of doing this.

Women speakers get booked in March. The "diversity slot." The "women's panel." 

Then we hear nothing except for crickets… until the next IWD.

This is NOT total inclusion. 
It’s a one-time acknowledgment

So in the spirit of IWD month — let me say it.

🚫 Don’t just book women speakers for the month of IWD.

Book them because they:

✅ Have powerful lived experiences and deserve to be paid for their profession 

✅ Balance the scales between Softness & Strength - because influence needs both 

✅ Have evolved — all ages, all shapes, all sizes, all colours — and ALL damn brilliant

So let's not wait for March to put women on stages. Let's do it all year round.

 I was 18. My first sales job. 

Knocking on doors in industrial areas, squatting on concrete floors next to uncles in translucent white singlets who were busy sawing wood and welding metal.
 
And there I was — trying to sell them advertising space.
 
A senior colleague came along to shadow me. And every single time I finished my pitch, he'd repeat what I just said. Same message. His words.
 
After a few rounds of this, I got frustrated. "Was I not clear?"
 
His answer changed everything:
 
"Cindy, you're talking too fast. You're not giving them the whole picture. They don't understand what you're saying."
 
That was my first lesson on the biggest blind spot in communication:
 
𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥𝗦.
 
This doesn't just apply to 18-year-old me. I still catch myself doing it. So do you.

This is the BS we don't catch — the Blind Spot that makes us assume understanding happened just because we spoke. 

We mistake talking for communicating. Presenting for connecting. And then we wonder why we get ghosted after.
 
Whether you're leading a team, pitching a client, or having a hard conversation with someone you love — the question isn't "Did I say it?"
 
It's "Did they get it?"
 
Your team could be losing deals right now — not because the product isn't good enough, but because the message never actually landed.

So Own Your BS — because the moment you see your Blind Spots is the moment your influence changes.

Invisible at home? No problem.

This was the biggest BS I fed myself with growing up.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.
 I learned that the hard way — in a hotel room in Bangkok.
 
In 2010, I was six months into a Sales Director role I took purely for the title and salary — feeling lost, checked out, and completely unmotivated. I knew they'd push me out soon, so I decided to beat them to it. 

At the same time, the other parts of my life were crumbling too. 
Relationships. Health. You name it.

And I was sitting on the bed, tears running down my face, saying out loud:
 
"𝘊𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘺, 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘱."
 
I had lost all influence over myself. Much less over anyone else.
 
That sentence became the spine of my book, InSide: Break Through Your BS to Influence Yourself.
 
The truth is, I'd been drowning in painful experiences for years — asking myself the same three questions:

• 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘮 𝘐 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥?
 
After a decade working with leaders and sales teams, I realised I wasn't the only one asking them. The lack of influence was never about technique. Something invisible was running the show.
 
It took a mentor and a programme for me to realise one thing -  I'd been polishing the outside of my apple while the inside was decaying.
 
And that's where things started to change.
 
Not overnight. Not dramatically. But the moment I decided to confront my BS — I started making different choices. Harder ones. But honest ones.
 
Turns out, all the skills in the world were just dressing up the stinking problems I'd refused to face.

I wrote the book not because I'd figured everything out. But because I decided to stop pretending I had.

A friend gifted me a book - 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘌𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘺 — and honestly, it hit different.

Three things that stopped me:

🟡 Hurry kills wisdom. When you're rushing, you're not thinking — you're reacting.

🟠 Hurry and love are incompatible. Presence, patience, connection? 
Hurry destroys all three.

We hurry because we want 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 time. But here's the irony — we're spending the time we're trying to save... rushing through the things that actually matter.

That's not a calendar issue, but a self-influence issue.

Because the most influential leaders aren't always the ones moving the fastest. They're the ones who know when to slow the heck down.

Here’s a splash:  it's not the idea that's not ready. It's you who's not willing to be seen.

I know because I did the same thing. Sat in front of my computer for hours.
Trying to write my book. But I just sat there – battling myself, wasting time, waiting for some magical moment.

Then I stumbled on a short video by Pastor Steven Furtick that cut right through my nonsense:

"Start with what you have."
“What you have now is enough.”

That became the kick in the butt that I needed to stop waiting and start writing. 

And what came out of it was my book — 𝘐𝘯𝘚𝘪𝘥𝘦: Break Through Your BS to Influence Yourself.

Cindy Tien, EQ Maven, CSP's power-packed keynote talk yesterday, #𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘛𝘰𝘎𝘢𝘪𝘯: 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘞𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘦, for #IWD2026 at Indeed APAC, created many such pause points for the audience to examine the beliefs, assumptions, and inner narratives that shape how we show up.

Setting the stage for a candid and thought-provoking conversation, Cindy explored the invisible barriers many professionals carry into their work and life journeys:
> Patterns that sit beneath burnout, disengagement, and the absence of psychological safety. 
> Blind spots we rarely notice. 
> Belief systems we inherit. 
> Stories we keep repeating without realising the influence they hold.

Through practical examples and honest storytelling, Cindy introduced a simple but powerful path forward: 
recognise what is holding you back ---> address it directly ---> choose how you want to show up moving ahead.

The Indeed team across the region brought strong energy to the conversation. The reflections shared during the session showed a group willing to engage openly with these ideas and consider how they apply in their own work and leadership. 

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege for us to support the Women at Indeed team in bringing Cindy's work into their IWD programme.
