We added one thing to our ABM campaign last month for one of our clients.
A human voice.
Here's what happened ↓

We were already running:
→ LinkedIn Ads to our ICP
→ Multi-channel sequences (email + LinkedIn)
People were engaging. Accepting invites. Replying here and there.
But a lot of them just went quiet after the first touch.
So we had an SDR start calling - but only the people who already engaged.
Not cold outreach. Warm follow-up.

They'd seen our ads. Accepted our invite. Maybe even replied once.
The call didn't feel random. It felt like a next step.

February results:
→ 1,252 prospects in the funnel
→ 87 replies across channels

We confused the instrument with the treatment.
Building an outbound tool doesn't mean outbound is your cure.

So we did what any rational person does when the obvious answer stops working.
We ignored the textbook and ran our own tests.

Partnerships. Personal brand. AI doing the grunt work no one wanted to hire for.

Turns out, the answer was never in the playbook everyone else was following.

How SaaS Founders Are Scaling GTM with AI: Standing Out and Scaling in Crowded SaaS Categories · Zoom · Luma

Most companies are doing outbound backwards.

They pour resources into hyper-personalized copy and AI-powered sequences.
But they skip the step that actually matters: building awareness first.

If your outbound is the first time someone hears about you, set your expectations low. I'm talking 0.01% success rates. Not because your team is bad. Because the market has never heard of you.

But when you flip the sequence (build brand presence first, then layer outbound on top) you'll have a lot more success.

The hard part? Measuring the exposure.

The way I approach it: track mentions on social media.

Say we want to push a HubSpot integration. If I see five HubSpot experts posting about HeyReach and HubSpot, I know we've entered that market segment. That's my signal that there's awareness.

Then we layer on multiple touchpoints, like content, email, and ads, before SDRs ever send the first outbound message.

It's not perfect attribution, but social mentions give you a real-time pulse on whether your brand-building is actually landing.
